Leisure Suit Larry In the Land of the Lounge Lizards
Review by Blackjack4x
"Very fun adult oriented adventure game"
OK, for lack of a better term, the graphics suck, but Leisure Suit Larry is a very smart game. It's one of Sierra's first games, one of those games where you type in the text on the bottom of the screen to tell Larry what to do. The game is similar in appearance and design to the first Police Quest and King's Quest games. The story seems to go like this: you are Larry, a middle age man and embarrassingly still a virgin. This is the night you plan to change that, and you set out to do so. In fact, this is the main objective of the game. You finish the game by getting laid. You move with the arrow keys, but everything else must be done by typing in commands such as "look", "touch", "pay" and so on. Each correct action earns you some points, but full points are not required to finish the game. Larry explores a bar, a casino, a hotel, a nightclub and more in this one player game.
Graphics: 2/10
Pixelated and old. Nothing great, but on par with the time period.
Sound: 1/10
Bad. Forget about it.
Gameplay: 8/10
The game is pretty fun to play. You can type in some pretty bizarre commands and the computer has some pretty funny responses. The variety of places you can go is decent, but the best part of the game is the humor. When Larry's breath gets bad you have to use breath spray. Occassionally a dog will use you as a fire hydrant. And in the bathroom the wall is covered with sayings such as "Scott me up Beamy" and "Rugby requires leather balls". All these things and more add up to give you an extremely funny game. But don't be fooled into thinking it's a mindless, perverted adventure. Despite the objectives, it's actually a very sharp game. Many items need to be found and used in many different situations. Some of the solutions to problems are funny, which I won't ruin in the review.
Replay: 6/10
You can play the game after you've finished it to try out some things you didn't do before, namely to see the reactions of people to your actions and more specifically what the game says.
Overall: 7/10
Graphics and questionable objectives aside, this is a solid, funny game. A word of warning, though: it's not for kids. To get into the game you must answer 5 questions correctly to prove you are really over the age of 18. For anybody else, Leisure Suit Larry is one of the funniest games you'll ever play. Give it a try.
