"One of the best Jurassic Park games"
Chaos Island is a strategy game based partially on the 1997 movie, ''The Lost World: Jurassic Park.'' Although it is a short game, it is very entertaining while it lasts.
The story ties in with the movie, but there are many differences. Some levels are based on the plot in the movie, and some are completely new. The game's story is explained in the introduction movie. The game has a few scenes from the movie. You start off with a few of the main characters from the movie, and you get more as you progress through the game.
This game has over ten different levels with plenty of gameplay variety. When you begin, there is a tutorial that your can access immediately to get a feel for the basics of the game. Each mission begins with a screen that allows you to choose from various characters, such as Ian, Nick, Sara and others. When you begin the story mode, you start off with missions that are fairly easy, but later on the real challenge and fun kicks in. You are able to upgrade weapons, build bases, defeat enemies and dinosaurs, steal dinosaur eggs, and breed your own dinosaurs. You can then control the dinosaurs, and they can attack your enemies! There are eight different types of dinosaurs, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Your main enemies in this game are the dinosaur hunters. There are also wild dinosaurs that can attack you, but they only do so if you invade their territory.
The controls in this game are usually responsive. Sometimes, however, characters or dinosaurs may run into a wall or get stuck somewhere, so you have to make sure they get to where they have to go. Other than that the controls are fine.
Graphics and Sound:
By today's standards, the graphics aren't great at all, but at least your can tell the characters and dinosaurs apart. For the time, however, these graphics were pretty good. The music in this game is a drawback, because it gets repetitive. The sounds are very good, though. There is also voices provided by the actors from the movie.
Length and Replay Value:
The game has three difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard. The game is around 5 to 8 hours long. It is fun to play again after you beat it, because you can explore the areas you've been to before and search for dinosaur eggs and other things you might have missed. The fact that this game is simple and addictive makes this game fun to play again.
I have to give this an 8 out of 10 as an overall score. The controls hold the game back from being great, but it is still an addictive game that you will enjoy.
