"Great game, but where's Loki?"

Valkyrie Fight is based on the Tri-Ace RPG Valkyrie Profile (Lenneth). This game is decent, but it has a great many flaws. There is a sequel to this game, but that's not what I'm reviewing, is it?

Gameplay 8/10

Gameplay's great for a fighting game even for today. Problem is, it's too easy. Some characters have infinite combos, and there is little reason to use all the moves available. The Modes offerred are fun, but they're all basically the same thing, except for Multiplayer.

Graphics 9/10

The graphic for this game is impressive. The sprites are one of the best for a 2D fighting game, and has a retro feeling to it. The backgrounds are great too, but there are hardly any.

Sound 6/10

The sound. The music is great, but after hearing it over and over again, it gets very repetetive. So repetetive, you want it to stop. There are no voice-acting, either, but that's hardly a problem. The best part of the sound is hearing sword clashing. No joke.

Story 7/10

The story is... wait, what story? You basically beat everyone in front of you 'til you reach Hrist, Lenneth's older sister. After that, it's over. Loki doesn't pop up, Odin doesn't die, Surt isn't having a war. It's just you... and Hrist. Beat? Congratulations. Lose? You suck. Nothing else other than that.

Replayability - Low

The game ends pretty fast. So unless you have a friend who's willing to play with the same keyboard (or using a different joypad), you pretty much got this thing all by yourself with lots of other fighting games lying around that could be better. Heck, Amaginz even made a game that practically replaces this in every way. Valkyrie Fight Tag (if I could rate that, I'd give it an 8).
