Museum Madness
Review by Rev4n
"It's okay."
In this game, you're a kid who is contacted by the Museum's computer, and summoned to go throughout the museum's exhibits to restore data or something...it's an excuse for you to learn stuff. Nothing wrong with that. This game would be a 7 if you could control the kid with the arrows and have the surroundings update in real time, but you have to click the part on the floor where you want him to go, and in order to move from room to room/forwards/backwards/right/left, you have to click arrows int he corner of the screen a la Myst. This wouldn't be a problem at all, except at times it can be downright disorienting. It's not nearly as flawless as Myst, and just comes out frustrating.
Most of the puzzles involve either patterns, math, memory, etc. and since it's a museum, there are plenty of subjects to cover. This isn't a cram-the-knowledge-down-your-throat kind of educational game, which is always nice. At the end of the day though, most everything has to do with learning. If that's your bag, then you'll have fun.
Graphically, this game fits the time period. The graphics are pretty bad by today's standards, but for the time, they're at least alright. The music can get annoying FAST, so I usually just shut it off. No big deal. The rest of the sound fits and is alright, though.
I think the best application of this game is a classroom, but obviously not part of any curriculum. It's kind of easy for the 13+ age group, but anyone under 10 might find it frustrating. It has a really small target audience. Then again, I think the controls will frustrate any 10-12 year olds playing, causing them to drop this game in favor of some other classroom classic like Oregon Trail (which is WAY better, but completely different).
This game tries really hard to be good, but it just can't get it all figured out.
SUMMARY: The sound's not great, the graphics=meh, and the gameplay is fun, but not very fun, and the controls are mostly terrible.
