MechWarrior 4: Clan 'Mech Pack
Review by teddybeartamer
"A Good Find for The Hardcore Mechwarrior!"
Introduction
While this expansion only adds a handful of mechs, one weapon, one piece of equipment and a new map, it is still money well invested. Please note: The mechs can only be played in the instant action and Multiplayer aspects of the game.
True, some may not really be into Mechwarrior, and some may hate it. But many, like me have liked it since Mechwarrior 2, and possibly before. This game is not a full blown expansion, for that you should pick up Black Knight, a very entertaining add-on. This is more of a collection of things, to make Mechwarrior 4 more realistic, bring the most prized mechs and weapons to the field, to make the game a much more diverse and realistic field. I enjoy the feeling of having the paks, and being able to choose the mechs in multiplayer, and being able to laugh at the people sitting there watching me dominate in my Masakari. I do not recommend you buying this, if you are satisfied with the number of mechs in Mech 4, but if you're the die hard fan who wants it all, spend the 15 bucks to get it. It feels good having the whole collection. This is a very cheap and simple add on, taking only 30 seconds to install. The game will show you small verification windows in the main menu of the game, and it allows you to take pride in your purchase. This add-on is by far a fan service, as many were complaining at the pathetic selection of mechs. Perhaps not the number, but the selection. They just didn't choose the right ones. If you've got a not so good computer, you might want to check out Mechwarrior 2:Mercenaries. It's very good, and fetches a cheap price off of Ebay, and if you're lucky, you'll find it new in a bargain bin.
Gameplay
Look under Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance or Mercenaries to read about the gameplay.
Graphics/Sound
The mechs are beautifully rendered, with the Artic Wolf and Kodiak being the best drawn. The Masakari and Cauldron Born are horribly drawn, and don’t look anything like the “real” way they’re supposed to look. The Masakari looks about 50 tons overweight, and the Cauldron Born doesn’t look like the Bird of Prey it once was.
This game give you about zilch for replay value. Its only got a few more mechs and a few more payload options. Again, I do not suggest this to a casual 'mech pilot.
Final Recommendation
Get both the paks if you love Mechwarrior, and don't even think of touching these things if you don't. You'll most likely be let down, but hey: There's not a better feeling than stomping down on some guy online with a Kodiak
