How does xp work?

When i level the bar up nothing happens.Is there a level up screen that you can go to?

Leveling up currently does not give anything except Skill Points, which are completely useless at this time. The ability to acquire skills/abilities such as increased health or better jumping using them is planned to be in update 1.9.

As of 1.8.1, there is no use for xp. That is a feature coming in a later update.
