Can you recruit or have companions?

I remember that Far cry 2 had a buddy system, is there something similar or even close to this in Far cry 3? I've seen videos where there are friendly NPCs with guns, hireable?

You can't exactly hire people but can have friendlies follow you San Andreas style. Just go up to a occupied friendly vehicle and commandeer it, whoever's in the car will exist. Enter the car and wait a few seconds and they will enter again at the back.

Drive to enemy territory and have a party.
