(Ripped from the Game Manual PDF included in the game)

Thank you for playing Katawa Shoujo. It’s been a long road to this point, not
only for the developers at Four Leaf Studios, but also for the many people who
contributed from outside the development team, the alpha and beta testers, and
the fans who have waited until release.

It all began in the year 2000, with an extra page in a doujin from the artist
RAITA titled “Schuppen Harnische”. With development starting in the year 2007,
inspired by this page, and final release occurring in 2012, a lot has changed
in all of our lives during this time. But Ka¬tawa Shoujo has been there through
out and none of us will forget the experience of producing it. That goes not
only for the developers, but for everyone who’s been involved in this project.
In the words of a certain heroine, “It’s fun to drag more and more people into
my life.” Katawa Shoujo has dragged in people of all ages from all over the
world, working in many different occupations, leading many different lifestyles
. Some are now friends, others are enemies, while many are only a little less
than strangers. It’s even dragged in you who are reading this now. That’s how
life is, and how people are. And in the end, that’s what Katawa Shoujo is

Four Leaf Studios are happy to present Katawa Shoujo. We hope you will enjoy

                                                             Four Leaf Studios

Game Intro [KS_GIN]

Game Title - Katawa Shoujo
Game Version - v1.0 for complete, v5.0 for Act 1 only
Game Description - Katawa Shoujo is a bishoujo-style visual novel set in the
fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located
somewhere in modern Japan. Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living
a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a
congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school
after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties,
Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays
his cards right. There are five main paths corresponding to
the 5 main female characters, each path following the
                   storyline pertaining to that character.

The story is told through the perspective of the main
character, using a first person narrative. The game uses a
traditional text and sprite-based visual novel model with
                   an ADV text box.

Katawa Shoujo contains adult material, and was created using
the Ren'Py scripting system. It is the product of an
international team of amateur developers, and is available
free of charge under the Creative Commons BY-NC-ND License.

This game seriously reminds me of the current Bishoujo anime
, The World God Only Knows where Kami-sama must conquer
different pretty youngs girls to save the goddesses.

Hisao Nakai
Troubled over his months-long stay at the hospital after his heart almost gave
out and trying to adjust to his new surroundings, he is trying hard to find
his place in the world. After being thrown into a new beginning, the chaotic
circumstances have forced Hisao to rethink his apathetic disposition,
especially regarding things like life, friendship and future.

The protagonist of the story. The storyteller and the in-game you. Struck by a
lifelong disability during a confession and hospitalized for 4 months, he was
forced to be confined and transferred to a highschool for 'specials' aka
Yamaku Academy. It's up to you now to choose his path to happiness. Will your
choices be a happy ending or would you end up dying lonely - filled with

Emi Ibarazaki
Birthday: March 14
Zodiac: Pisces
Blood Type: B
Height: 151 cm
Weight: 41 kg
Bust/Waist/Hips: 70/51/74
Hair: Light Brown
Eyes: Poplar Green

Despite being left with legs amputated below the knee, Emi is perhaps one of
the most cheery, happy-go-lucky girls on the entire globe, let alone the
school. Not one to be left in despair even after the accident that claimed her
legs, Emi views her disability more as a blessing, her prosthetic legs having
brought her to the heights of her ability on the track team rather than
becoming a permanent obstacle.

Hanako Ikezawa
Birthday: July 10
Zodiac: Cancer
Blood Type: AB
Height: 164 cm
Weight: 52 kg
Bust/Waist/Hips: 86/56/84
Hair: Purple
Eyes: Grey Purple

At a young age, Hanako had a traumatic experience that left her life in
shambles. Her father died when their home burned down in an accident, which
also disfigured Hanako herself permanently. She is reclusive to the extreme,
shunning from all other people to the point of actually panicking from any
social contact. Her only trusted friend is Lilly, who has taken Hanako under
her wing ever since the two were introduced to each other.

Lilly Satou
Birthday: February 7
Zodiac: Aquarius
Blood Type: A
Height: 171 cm
Weight: 59 kg
Bust/Waist/Hips: 89/61/89
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue

Blind since birth, Lilly is caring, responsible and friendly - the perfect foil
to Hanako, her best friend, whom she shares an almost mother- daughter
relationship with, in addition to her free time often being spent drinking tea
alongside her companion. In class she is a diligent student, with her sense of
confidence serving her well in her role as class representative of class 3-2.

Rin Tezuka
Birthday: March 13
Zodiac: Pisces
Blood Type: AB
Height: 161 cm
Weight: 50 kg
Bust/Waist/Hips: 83/54/78
Hair: Red
Eyes: Dark Green

Since Rin’s arms are tiny stumps due to a severe birth defect and subsequent
surgery, she uses her feet and occasionally her mouth to do ev¬erything, which
includes painting. Because of her disability, using skirts is tough, so Rin is
wearing a boy’s uniform at school. Her creativity is matched by her
philosophical streak: Rin is fond of occasionally getting lost in thought and
giving voice to abstract ideas about man, the universe, and other things that
thoroughly confuse people.

Shizune Hakamichi
Birthday: May 6
Zodiac: Taurus
Blood Type: O
Height: 158 cm
Weight: 53 kg
Bust/Waist/Hips: 88/52/85
Hair: Dark Blue
Eyes: Blue

Strong willed and forceful, Shizune is definitely the leader type. She’s been
the class rep, despite being deaf and mute, for as long as her class has had
one, and generally takes charge in just about any situation she’s placed in.
Shizune is known around the school as a fearsome task-master, and skilled
manipulator, but also as a fair and just leader.

Shiina “Misha” Mikado
Birthday: November 1
Zodiac: Scorpio
Blood Type: AB
Height: 158 cm
Weight: 57 kg
Bust/Waist/Hips: 85/58/84
Hair: Pink
Eyes: Gold

Misha is the interpreter for Shizune and a fellow member of the student
council. Cheery, playful, and never one to pull a punch, she happily joins in
Shizune’s attempts to get Hisao onto the student council.

A highschool girl of the same school as Hisao who confessed her love to him.

Akio Mutou
Both homeroom and science teacher of 3-3, and just as much out of touch
with his class as he is out of touch with reality. Probably born to be a
teacher (no matter how much his students disagree), his greatest skill is
the ability to ignore irrelevant things completely (no matter how much
anyone who wishes he'd remember their names disagrees).

Kenji Setou
Borderline hikkikomori, Kenji likes to spend a lot of time in his room,
planning for whatever the radical feminist movement's next move may be.
He is leery of the instant attraction that Hisao seems to have brought
upon himself, but nonetheless very pleased to finally have a hallmate.

Your bespectacled hallmate. A four-eyed geek, whose disability whether it's
his brain or his eyes, makes him a freak in any ways. He is like an alien
from another reality. Beware of his idiocy and conspiracies, they're

Yuuko Shirakawa
Yuuko has serious problems with managing her life, which makes her the perfect
person to ask for help to manage one's own. She funds her university studies
by working part time at a popular cafe. The lengths she goes to avoid being
fired for her natural clumsiness bewilder other people, along with her
neurotic attention to detail and frequent streaks of depression.

The chief of the nurse staff of Yamaku, and a surprisingly young person for
someone in his position. He is a funny and jovial guy, always good for a
laugh and well liked by students. Nonetheless, he has a heart of pure gold
and he is very passionate and serious about his job.

Walkthrough [KS_TRU]

Here's some tips when playing the game:
1. Choices are the most important thing in this game. It what decides what path
you're gonna take and the future outcomes in conquering 2D girls. So follow
the instructions carefully.
2. The key keymaps here are: F2{Loadstate}, F3{Savestate}, F4{Esc Menu},
                             Tab{Skip text mode} and A{Auto mode}.
3. There's a checkbox on the right side of each choice. It signifies whether
you've already picked that choice. This provides you that you won't miss
things. Be warned that it's also hardsave (named as "persistent").
Reloading a savestate won't erase the checkmark. In case you made a mistake,
this guide is also here for that reason.
4. There is also a trick on completing the whole game scenario without starting
from the beginning. For more details, go to the Extras section.
5. There really isn't

So let's beging, this guide will be spoiler-free since if I do post it, then
you might as well not play the game and just read the whole game convo here.
On the matter, it will be divided simply by the girl-path you're choosing and
the ending you wanted to see.

Prologue [KS_PROL]

Just follow through, there's no choice here anyway. There would be actually
Act 1 to 4. Here's the basic, Act 1 will be the deciding stage on whom your
destiny will be entwined with. Act 2-3 will focus more on the chosen girl.
Act 4 either goes to bad ending or good ending except for one, Kenji. If
you ever don't impressed a girl during Act 1, you will end up with this weirdo,
which as far as I know, no one likes to.

Conquer Emi [KS_EMI]

[Act 1]
"Yeah, of course."
"I think I got everything I need to know."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Read my book."
"Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack..."
"Go for it."

[Act 2]
"Offer to run with Emi."

[Act 3]
"Press Emi."
"I suppose I can spare a few minutes."
"Sure, why not?"
"Talk to her mom."

[Act 4]
Good Ending if you've followed everything up until now.

Bad Ending can be get if you choose "Downplay issue" after the "Go for her"
choice. An alternative is that you can also choose you're busy and it will skip
alot of scenes straight to the 'going for it' portion.

Conquer Hanako [KS_HAN]

[Act 1]
"Yeah, of course."
"Ask about the library."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Go talk with Hanako."
"Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack..."
"Take it easy."
"Sorry, I'm not in very good condition."
"Go to the library."

[Act 2]
"What do you think, Hanako?"

[Act 3]
"Admit it."
"Do you want to go into the city?"

[Act 4]

"Agree with Lilly."

Picking to agree with lilly will net you best ending for hanako path but
by picking "Trust my own judgment." will get you the good ending.

Bad ending can be get by always choosing the negative choice. In here, go
back to the save where you will be ask to go to town or not, choose
"How about we call it a day?" to get the bad ending.

You'll also stil be missing one photo. Took me some time to find it.
Back at Act 2, you will be asked about your work in the council, choose
"I've done enough work for the council already." to get the missing one.

Conquer Lilly [KS_LIY]

[Act 1]
"Yeah, of course."
"Ask about the library."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Go talk with Hanako."
"Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack..."
"Take it easy."
"Sorry, I'm not in very good condition."
"Go for a walk into town."

[Act 2]
"Tell the truth."

[Act 3]
"Ignore his insane ramblings."
"Ask about Hanako."
"Address it."
"Talk about Hanako."

[Act 4]
"Mention the letter."

This will give you a nice ending and an epilogue. If you want to see the bad
ending, choose to "Drop the letter." on Act 4 instead of mentioning it.

Conquer Rin [KS_RIN]

[Act 1]
"Yeah, of course."
"I think I got everything I need to know."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Read my book."
"Don't drag me into this! I've done my part!"
"Take it easy."
"Sorry, I'm not in very good condition."
"I'm interested in the art club."

[Act 2]
"You're amazing!"
"It's refreshing."
"I want to be more like Rin."
"It isn't like you at all to hesitate like this."
"What about me?"

[Act 3]
"I want to understand her."
"Why did you turn away from being an artist?"
"I need to understand."

[Act 4]
"But if you found someone like that, then what?" for best ending.
"But aren't you happy people are interested in your paintings?" for the good
"Then explain." will give you the bad ending.

The last picture can be found by choosing "I think you'd be a big hit" back
in Chapter 3.

Conquer Shizune [KS_SHI]
[Act 1]
"Yeah, of course."
"Ask about Shizune's deafness."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Wait for Shizune and Misha to come to a decision."
"Don't drag me into this! I've done my part!"
"Take it easy."
"Try to dodge the subject."

[Act 2]
There would be no choices here.

[Act 3]
Same here.

[Act 4]
"Refuse." for the good ending.
"Comfort Misha." for the bad ending.
Use the savestate to go back at this crossroad immediately.

Conquer Kenji [KS_KEN]

You could *date* ...ahem... get Kenji ending thru the following:

"Yeah, of course."
"Ask about Shizune's deafness."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Wait for Shizune and Misha to come to a decision."
"Don't drag me into this! I've done my part!"
"Go for it."
"Yeah, I sure was having fun fun fun at the nurse's office."

"Yeah, of course."
"Ask about the library."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Go talk with Hanako."
"Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack..."
"Take it easy."
"Sorry, I'm not in very good condition."
Then choose, you're stuck with her.

"Yeah, of course."
"Ask about the library."
"She has a point. Attack aggressively!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"She was cute."
"Go talk with Hanako."
"Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack..."
"Take it easy."
Then choose not to tell anything.

Then at the home field, choose to kick them out.

Extras [KS_EXT]

The trick here to complete all of 'em for you need to pass thru all scenes via
picking choices when you're asked by a certain character. Another note is that
saved extras has different saved function than savestates. In other words,
extras can't be deleted, so far...well unless you do some modifications. So
as long as you make into that scene, whatever you've unlocked is *permanent*.

Have you ever played an emulator like ePSxe and Visual Boy Advance. Notice that
memory card is different from savestates. It works the same here, except that
achievements are automatically *hard* saved.

Using this as a basis, saving (savestate!) whenever you have to pick a choice
will enable you to save A LOT of time and effort in backtracking multiple
parallel paths. Have fun time travelling.

Jukebox [KS_JUK]
There are a total of 38 musical backgrounds the game has. Almost all of them
can be obtained by following the main flow of the story. If you heard a
background music playing during a scene, except FMVs, you can check the
pause/escape screen and look at the bottom screen to see what music is
currently playing.

Library [KS_LIB]
Library is the completion of all the acts, scenes and heroine you've captured
during your playthrough. You can also play that specific scene by clicking on
it but ofcourse it exits before the next scene start.

The format would be a list. I will avoid being a spoiler since there is some
description pertaining the outline of the story, well crossing out the keywords
themselves (scene name). For more details, read the walkthrough section.

Gallery [KS_GAL]
This is a collection of snapshots of all the *special* scenes while playing. In
total, there are 107 photos you can collect. Mind telling you that some photo
requires you to gather a specific number before you unlock them.

Cinema [KS_CIN]
Cinema, 6 in all, shows you all FMVs you've gathered in the game.

Freq Asked Questions [KS_FAQ]

Q1: What does "Katawa Shoujo" mean?
A1: It literally means "Cripple Girls", Katawa=disable or cripple and Shoujo
Girls. BDSM said that Katawa also means "one wheel" in the connotation of
a one-wheeled cart or some such which also implies that there is something
'different' or 'missing' on the girls.

Q2: Where are the saves kept? I want to back it up.
A2: According to peteyboo, it's kept under Users\*name*\AppData\Roaming\RenPy
\katawashoujo_actual on Windows 7. I believe it's on the same folder in
    Vista/XP and lower platforms.

Q3: Does this game have porn/nudity/sex scene/h-stuff and the likes?
A3: Yes it does, although the contents are very minimal compared to other
existing visual novels. The term 'mild' would suffice the whole explanation
thing. Thus having it an R+ rating.

Q4: What is Hisao's disability?
A4: Arrhythmia. It was mentioned in the prologue to be a rare condition in
which causes the heart to act erratic and beat so fast. Death may be the
    ultimate outcome.

Q5: Are the girls at legal age?
A5: It's been debated and conluded that all of them are senior highschools
meaning 18 years old with an exception of Emi which is 19 because she
stopped for a year to adjust using the prosthetics. So no child porno

I'm gonna help spread the words of thanks of the project team to all the
sponsors and contributors of the game. Without them, this game is still an
idea, but now thanks to them it's reality. (I sound like a politician there)
