Introduction

Welcome to my Lone Survivor FAQ/Walkthrough! Lone Survivor is a psychological horror indie game created by Jasper Byrne. Being a Flash Game, the graphics aren't all that spectacular by any means, but it certainly adds something to the feel and style of the game.

Lone Survivor feels somewhat like a throwback to old 1990s horror games. Gameplay is similar and the game itself feels a little less directed, forcing the player to explore and find their own solutions to puzzles. It is an easy and simple game to pick up, but can still provide immense enjoyment as you feel yourself getting immediately pulled in to the story.

You play as the 'Lone Survivor' in an apartment building. An outbreak of an unknown disease turns the world into an apocalyptic state. The protaginist is slowly going insane, unsure of whether he is seeing things and unable to emotionally cope with what's happening. You must now explore and try to find other survivors.

This guide provides a complete walkthrough, accompanied by script wherever a noticeable and notable amount appears within the game. Maps are included for easy reference and the walkthrough is written quite concisely and easy to follow. Extra information is included on items, detailing how each one is used within the game. Information is also included on the monsters, giving strategies on how to engage them; the multiple endings within the game; Lone Survivor's Diary and any random quotes that a player may come across in-game; and finally, but certainly not unimportantly, basics on how to play Lone Survivor! I hope this guide helps!

Sleeping & Pills

There are two reasons to sleep.

The first and most imporant is to save your progress. Sleeping will automatically save your progress. If you die or exit out of the game, you'll appear back at this point when you re-enter the game.

The second reason is to gain Ammo and Batteries. Using a Blue Pill and then sleeping will cause you to dream. If you had no ammo left, when you wake up, you'll find that some ammo has appeared in your inventory. If you use a Green Pill and sleep you'll have a different drea. When you wake up, you'll have a spare battery in your inventory, assuming that you had none when you went to sleep. Be warned that using these pills can affect your ending.

Eating

Eating replenishes health. There is no visible health bar in this game, but health is instead kept track of in the background. Your only indicator of health is whether you screen is flashing red. If it is, it means you need to eat something before you pass out. If you pass out, you lose. Some items can be combined with others or cooked to form different, more effective foods.

Interacting

Pressing the 'X' button whenever it appears above your head allows you to perform the action displayed along the bottom of the screen. Most actions are 'Use' or 'Look at' actions. Using 'X' on items that you can pick up causes you to add them to your inventory. Using 'X' on doors or other entryways causes you to move through them to the next area. Many 'X' interactions will be useless, except for adding to the aesthetics of the world in which you're playing.

Map

The map is a wonderful guide on what to do next and to help you navigate to where you want to go. The key displayed on the map is quite self-explanatory. The red '?'s are generally the places that you want to go to. They are displayed even after you've completed whatever you are meant to within those rooms, so remember which ones you've completed and which ones you have yet to complete.

Inventory

From your inventory you can use or look at items. Navigating is simple and you can use any kind of item that you currently have.

Mirrors

Mirrors act as checkpoints within the game. Looking deeply into a mirror will cause you to teleport back to your apartment, where you can sleep, cook meals and replenishes some of your stocks. Looking deeply into the apartment mirror will cause you to teleport back to whichever mirror (besides the apartment one) that you last used. You cannot use the apartment mirror until you find another one within the game.

Script

You: 'My name is... ... not important any more, I guess. Used to know how long I'd been here. Now I've got no idea. Been a while since the outbreak started, that much I know. Holed up, with the sound of those things outside. Monsters, I guess you'd call 'em. As far as I know, I'm the only one left. The lone survivor. Can't go on much longer though... Almost out of supplies... And if there's anyone else alive out there, I need to find them. If nothing else, ... I don't wanna die alone.'

Move right, into the next area. Look at the cup of coffee on the end table. Drink the coffee. You'll appear in a new area. Keep moving right through this area until you reach the next one.

Script

You: 'What's going on here? Damn! It's one of those things! I don't think it can see me... Wait... Looks like there's a hiding spot just behind it... I'll see if I can sneak past.'

Don't move into the light until the monster begins moving right so that it has its back turned to you. Follow behind it, not getting too close. Keep following it until you reach the hiding spot. Move into the hiding spot and move right to the far end of it. Wait until the monster is to your left, facing left and come out of the hiding spot. Move into the darkness to your right. Move right and enter the curtains.

Script

You: 'Hello... Hello? Are you ok? What's that you're holding?' [Touches girl. Girl vanishes. Picks up the dropped flashlight.] 'I got some kind of pocket flashlight. Let's try switching it on...' [Turns on flashlight. Reveals man. Flash of white. Wakes up from dream.] 'Damn, my head... Got a pounding headache. Damn night terrors... No better than the days! Well good morning flashlight, old friend...' [Turns on flashlight.] 'It's time to face the outside world...'

Apartment 206

Turn your Flashlight off so that you don't waste battery. Move left and pick up the Green Pill lying on the ground. Move right. You can look at the cupboard for information on controls if you want. Once you're done, exit through the door at the right end of the room.

Move left and pick up the Battery from the ground. Move right and enter the door along the back wall to reach the kitchen.

Pick the Key To 206 up from the sofa. Look at the fridge and take what's inside. You'll collect six pieces of Rotting Meats, which you can use to get past monsters. Move over to the washing machine and look at it. You'll take the Cat Plush that was sitting on top. Exit back out of the room.

Use the Key To 206 on the big, blue front door, unlocking it. You'll get rid of the key. Ignore the direction to sleep and enter the door.

Wing Court 2F, South

Move left and grab the Map of Wing Court, 2F from the wall. The map will be brought up automatically. You're aiming to reach the '?' on the top left of the map. When you picked up the Map of Wing Court, 2F, you also picked up the Old Letter at the same time, which you can read.

Script

You: 'I got the map of Wing Court, 2F.' [Looks at map.] 'It looks like something's already marked on here. Let's take a look...' [Map Screen Appears.] '203... That was Chie's place, wasn't it? Why would anyone mark it on here? I'll try and make my way there, anyway.' [Press 'X' to close map screen.] 'Oh yeah... That letter that was pinned to the map...' [Select 'Read it now?' option.] 'Might as well read the letter then...'

Old Letter: 'Don't set off without a map! Even if you do know your way around. Things keep changing, you see. By the way... I think I have a way to get past those things... I worked out they're attracted to the stench of decay. When I'm having trouble getting past them, I leave some rotten meat down to one side of a hiding spot. Then I can hide as they come towards me. It's best to avoid them, you see.'

You: 'There's no signature on it.'

Move right. You can turn on your Flashlight and talk to Chuck the potted plant if you want. If you do, just make sure you turn your Flashlight off again. Now drop a piece of Rotting Meats around where Chuck is, left of the hiding spot. As soon as you do, move to the hiding spot and enter it. Move to the far right side and wait for the monster to move past, going to feed on the meat. When he does, come out from hiding and move right. Enter the door with red writing on it at the end.

Apartment 205

Move left and enter the door. If you get too close to the monster, it will chase you. Move right and pick up the Old Note 1 from the foot of the bed. Move right and enter the door at the end.

Turn your flashlight on. You're now in the bathroom. Look at the hole and enter it. Move right and continue moving right until you reach the heart. After saying a few words, a monster will appear behind you. Continue moving right until you finally reach the end of the hole. Enjoy tripping out as you run.

You'll come out in a different room of the same apartment. Move right and grab the Prawn Crackers. Move left, past the door and collect the Squid Stick. Turn your Flashlight off now, so that you're not wasting battery. Look deeply into the mirror to teleport back to your apartment. Sleep and eat, then teleport back to Apartment 205. Move right and enter door. Enter the very first door to your left in this room, making sure that you don't get too close to the monster.

If you need to get back to your apartment, you will need to backtrack to the mirror in Apartment 205 and teleport back. That's until you reach the next mirror at least.

Wing Court 2F, South

You're out of the apartment now. There's a monster to your right. Wait for it to face and move right before sneaking in it and hiding in the crevice. Move to the far right side of the hiding spot. Wait for it to face left and begin moving that way before coming out. Move right, past the door to Apartment 204 and enter the door at the very end of the hallway.

West Fire Exit, 2F

  • Pick up the Diary Page 3 on the ground. Read it if you want. Enter the left door.

Wing Court 2F, North

  • Move right and enter the first door that you come upon.

Apartment 203

Move right past the door along the back wall and enter the door at the end of the hallway. You're in Chie's bedroom. Move left and pick up the Doll on the ground next to the left bedside table. Exit the room.

Move left, to the last door and enter. It's a party! Get up and dance around to the sexy jazz music before doing anything. DO IT. Once you're done dancing, talk to Chie.

Script

You: 'Errr, hi.'

Chie: 'Did you bring her doll?'

You: 'I don't want to talk about that.'

Chie: 'Talk about what?'

You: '...'

Chie: 'Until you show me you can even hold it, Let alone talk about it... I've got nothing else to say to you.'

You can talk to the other two party-goers if you wish. Once you're done, give the Doll to Chie by standing next to her, selecting the Doll from your inventory and selecting the Give action.

Script

You: 'Here you go then.'

Chie: 'Thanks for that. I know it must have been hard for you.'

You: 'I dunno what you're talking about.'

Chie: 'You don't, huh? Well I have what you asked for. Meet me outside when you're ready for it.'

You: 'I don't know what you're saying... But hey! Why not?'

Go and sleep and eat now if you need to, there's a battle coming up. Enter the door that Chie is standing next to. You'll now be outside on the balcony. Your Flashlight will automatically be turned on. Move left and talk to Chie.

Script

You: 'Chie?'

Chie: 'It's ok. Just take it.'

You: 'What the hell are you talking about?'

Chie: 'The gun over there.'

You: 'So you realise I need the protection, at least.'

Chie: 'I'm not one to judge.'

Once you're done, move right and grab the Handgun resting on the balcony. Chie will disappear. Go back inside.

It's a battle! The Lone Survivor will automatically draw his gun (you normally need to draw it manually). Wait until the monsters move close enough, then aim up and shoot them in the heads until they die. These monsters don't ever actually move close enough to attack you, so you're fine to wait for them to keep approaching you until they stop moving, at which point you can shoot them in the head. Shooting them in the chest as they move towards you isn't as damaging, so it'll take more shots to defeat them and that just wastes precious ammo.

After the fight, put the Handgun away. You can look at the bodies if you wish. Once you're done, exit through the door along the right wall.

Script

You: I don't know what just happened in there... Don't really wanna think too deeply on it. I need to find a way out of these apartments. If I can make it to the other fire exit...' [Opens up map screen. Next destination is marked with a white 'X'.] 'It's still a fair way to the stairs... I guess I'll just have to look around this area... ... see what I can find.

Move right and pick up the Beef Jerky on the ground. Turn your Flashlight on so that you can see. Continue right, past the blue main door leading out of the apartment and enter the door immediately after it. Grab the purple 206 Bedroom Key from the hook in the room.

Script

You: 'I got the 206 bedroom key. Let's take a look on the map...' [Opens up the map screen. Next destination is marked with a white 'X'.] '206... Oh yeah... It's the apartment I'm staying in... Why didn't I remember that? Anyway, I can probably get back via the mirror...'

As directed, use the mirror in the room that you're currently in to teleport to your apartment and enter the bedroom using the key you just found.

Apartment 206

Now would be a perfect time to go into your bedroom and sleep to save the game. You can also eat something too if you need. Once you're done, move back into the apartment's hallway (the room with the mirror) and open up the bedroom door with the 206 Bedroom Key. The door is the one at the right end of the hall. You'll drop the key. Enter the door.

Move left and grab the Tin of Pickles and Ammo on the ground near the bed. Also grab the box of pills. Inside the box you'll find six Red Pills and the note Pill Instructions. Read the note and a red '?' will appear on your map in a room in Apartment 205. That's our next destination.

Go into the door near where you found the box of pills. You'll be in the bathroom. Pick up Diary Page 2 on the ground between the bathtub and sink. Look in the sink for some pills. You'll now have three Green Pills, three Red Pills and three Blue Pills. These replace the pills that you had in your inventory before looking in the sink, even if you had more than three of a kind. You're all done in the bathroom, so exit it.

Go into the kitchen and restock your Rotting Meats supply by looking in the fridge, then exit your apartment through the main door.

Wing Court 2F, South

Place rotting meat to the left of the hiding spot ahead once again. Quickly hide in the hiding spot, move to the right side and wait for the monster to move past. When it does, come out from hiding, move right and enter the front door of Apartment 205.

Apartment 205

Now that you have a Handgun, you can take out the monster that was restricting you to the left side of this room. Move slightly right after entering the room, making sure that you're close enough to shoot it in the head with your first shot, but not too close that it chases you. Take out your Handgun and fire. It will move toward you. Shoot it once in the foot to make it back away. As it's backing away, repeatedly shoot it in the head until it's dead. Put your Handgun away.

Take out your Flashlight and move until you're in front of the open door just left of the front door of the apartment. Put your Flashlight away (there's a monster inside) and enter. Take out your Handgun and move over to the monster. Once you're close enough, shoot it in the head. Keep firing shots at its head until it's dead. If it gets too close, shoot it in the feet to make it back away.

Once the monster's dead, move forward and look at the table. You'll find a Can Opener on it, which you'll take. Turn on your Flashlight and move right. Grab the Rice Pudding on the ground next to the fridge. Look in the fridge itself to find a Delicious Ham! OM NOM NOM. Turn your Flashlight off to conserve battery and exit the room.

Move right and enter the illuminated door. Inside you'll find the message 'NO OTHER SOLUTION' scrawled in blood upon the wall. Move over and grab the Scissors. Exit the room. Move right and enter the door leading out of the apartment.

Wing Court 2F, South

Move right and use the hiding spot to get past the monster like you did before. It's better not to kill it so that you can conserve ammo. Move to the end of the hallway and enter the door leadind to the fire exit.

West Fire Exit, 2F

  • Enter the left door.

Wing Court 2F, North

Move right. Skip past the first door unless you need to use the Apartment 203 mirror to get back to your apartment. Continue to the door with a '202' marked upon it. Grab the Green Pill on the ground nearby and enter.

Apartment 202

  • Take the Blue Pill from the ground to your right. If you look at the doors here, you'll find that they're all blocked. Exit the apartment.

Wing Court 2F, North

  • Move back left and enter the door to Apartment 203.

Apartment 203

Move to the right end of the hall and enter the door. Move left and look at the left bedside table. The Lone Survivor will find a hole behind it. Make sure that your Flashlight is off and enter the hole.

Apartment 202

Grab out your Handgun and kill the monster here. Put the gun away and look in the cupboard on the right side of the room. You'll find a second hole. Enter it.

Look in the oven just left of the hole to find some more Rotten Meats which you can stock up on. Turn on the Flashlight and move left, over to the armchair. Grab the Tin of Beans at the foot of it. Turn the Flashlight back off and look at the skin.

Script

You: 'What the... ? What the hell is this thing? It looks like it's covering another hole. I guess I need something to get through it.'

Go into your inventory and select the Scissors that you found in Apartment 205 earlier. Select the Cut option to cut the skin.

Script

You: 'Oh man... Do I really have to go through with this? Well, here goes...' [Cuts open skin.] 'Well now I feel a bit unwell...'

Make sure your Flashlight is off and enter the new hole in the skin. There's a monster to your right, so don't turn the Flashlight on. Wait for it to face and move right, then move right yourself and enter the hidden hiding spot. Move to the right side of the hiding spot, wait for the monster to move back left and come out from hiding. Grab the Battery then sneak back past the monster. If you're feeling lazy and impatient you can simply kill it instead. When you're done, move to the far left side of the room and enter the door. You're now on the balcony. Move left and hesitantly enter the door.

Apartment 201

Turn on the Flashlight and move left. Pick up the Can of Soda and the Instant Coffee from the ground. You get ten uses from the Instant Coffee. Exit through the door to the left of the one that you entered through.

Turn your Flashlight off to save battery then move right, past the mirror. A short bit of script will play.

Script

???: 'Let me out of here!'

You: 'Who said that? A girl's voice... Sounded like it was coming from that far wall.'

Move right and pick up the Ammo on the ground next to the door. You may want to move back to the mirror and teleport back to your apartment to save your progress now. Once you're ready, enter the door just past the front door to your right.

Move left and kill the monster with your gun in the same way as described before. Put your Handgun away and turn on your Flashlight. Move left and pick the Ammo and Bottle of Milk up from the ground. Turn your Flashlight back off and exit the room the same way that you entered.

You're back in the main hallway. Move right, to the very end and enter the door there. You're in a jail cell. Move left and talk to the girl in the cell.

Script

You: 'Hello? How did you get in there? Are you ok? How can I get you out? Who did this to you, anyway?'

Her: 'Why did you come here!? I never wanted you to find me... Not like this...'

You: 'What do you mean? I've never been here before! Who are you, anyway?'

Her: 'Yeah, that's right... I'm no-one!'

You: 'So ... leave me alone!' [Girl transforms.] 'No!' [Flash of red. Girl disappears.] 'What's wrong with me?' [Stands up.] 'Hey, what's this? Hmmm, there's a business card on the floor... I wonder what that's doing there?' [Picks up business card. Select 'Read it now?' option.] 'Let's see...'

Business Card: 'The Director: Aquisitions etc. Frequency 102.5.'

You: I guess that's a radio frequency. I'll check it out next time I use the radio...

You'll now have the Business Card in your inventory. Exit the room through the same door. Exit the apartment through the blue main door.

Wing Court 2F, North

There are monsters to your left and right. Ignore the monster to your left and wait for the monster to your right to face and begin moving right. When it's safe to do so, move right and enter the hiding spot. Move to the right side of the hiding spot and wait for the monster to move to your left. When it does, come out of the hiding spot and enter the door at the end of the hallway.

East Fire Exit, 2F

  • Enter the left door, unlocking it before you do. Now you it's much easier to walk back to your apartment.

Wing Court 2F, South

  • Enter the first door marked '206'.

Apartment 206

  • You can now sleep to save your progress as well as restocking on Pills in the bathroom or Rotten Meat in the kitchen. Eat something if you're hurt.

Optional Side-Quest

Click on the following link if you wish to complete the optional The Director Side-Quest (Recommended).

Apartment 206

Wing Court 2F, South

  • Move left and enter the door at the end of the hallway.

East Fire Exit, 2F

  • Move to the centre of the room and walk down the steps to your south.

East Fire Exit, 1F

  • Pick the Prawn Crackers up off the ground to your left. Enter the left door.

Wing Court 1F, South

Turn your flashlight on and walk right. Pick up the map on the wall. The back alley will be marked down. This is your next destination. Once you've finished looking at the map, exit out, turn your flashlight off and continue right. Enter the first door that you come across.

Apartment 105

Move right and pick the Bottle of Milk up off the ground. There are also ten Ground Espressos lying next to the milk, which you should pick up too. There's a mirror in this room which you may wish to make use of. Once you're done, exit out of the apartment. Don't forget to make sure that you're flashlights off before you do.

Wing Court 1F, South

  • Now that you've got the map and found the mirror, move back left and enter the door to the Fire Exit.

East Fire Exit, 1F

  • Enter the right door.

Wing Court 1F, North

  • Move left and enter the door just before the monster. Be quick or it might hurt you.

Apartment 103

Random carcasses on meat hooks? Lovely. Anyway, move to the right side of the room and pick up the Bucket sitting on the ground. Wait for the monster to move in front of the doorway, unless he has already. When he does, place a piece of Rotting Meat on the right side of the room and immediately hide amongst the carcasses. The monster will move into the room and move toward the meat. Move left along the hiding spot until you're past him. Come out of hiding and exit the room.

Wing Court 1F, North

There's a number of monsters to your left. Drop another piece of Rotting Meat in front of the door, then quickly move left and enter the hiding spot next to the it. Wait for the monster to move past, then come out of hiding and continue left until you reach the next hiding spot. This time, leave two Rotting Meats to the right of the hiding spot then quickly hide. The two remaining monsters to your left will both move past the hiding spot to feed on the meat. When they're past, come out and continue left. You're now past them all! Enter the blue door just before the end of the corridor.

Apartment 101

Turn your flashlight on and look at the newspaper clippings on the wall if you want to. Once you're done, move left and enter the door. In the room that you've just entered is a mirror, which you can use to go back to your apartment to save and replenish supplies. The large bright hold in the wall leads to the back alley. Enter it.

Wing Court Back Alley

You're outside. Turn your flashlight on and pick up the ten Instant Coffees to your left, as well as the Squid Stick. Move right, until you reach the end of the alley. Your flashlight will falter and go out.

Script

You: 'Hey, what's going on here? [Light turns on. Man has appeared.] Where did you come from?'

White-faced Man: 'Did I appear from nowhere?'

You: 'I'm not sure, to be honest. I don't know what you're saying. And I don't really like it either.'

White-faced Man: 'I don't have much to say to you... Until we meet for the third time. Goodbye.'

[Light goes out. Reappears back in the alley.]

You: 'Who is that guy? [Flashlight turns back on, revealing Soda Can.] What was that all about?'

Once you're finished talking with the White-faced Man, you'll have reappeared back in the alley. Pick up the soda can. You'll find that it's empty, except for... the Fire Door Key!

Making sure that your flashlight is on, move back left. Pick up the Ammo off of the ground. Once you have it, turn your flashlight off to conserve battery then move back to the hole in the wall and re-enter the apartment.

Apartment 101

  • Exit the apartment, back to the main corridor.

Wing Court 1F, North

  • Move left and open the Fire Exit door with your newly-found key. Enter the door.

West Fire Exit, 1F

Grab the Ammo off of the ground. Move over to the right door and unlock it with your key. Having unlocked both doors, you'll throw the key away. You'll find that you can't go to the basement just yet, as there's a rather large monster in one of the south corridor apartments that needs to be dealt with first. As such, enter the right door. It's time to take out the monster.

Wing Court 1F, South

You need to move through this dark area without your flashlight. Move right until you come upon a hiding spot just before the illuminated door. You can use Rotting Meat combined with this hiding spot to get past the monsters here, but it's easier to just run in and use your handgun to kill them, as you need to get back past them later, which can be more difficult. Make sure that you kill the first one as quickly as possible as the second one won't be far behind. Once you've dealt with both of them, move left past the illuminated door. Turn you flashlight on and grab the Fruit Salad up off of the ground. Move back to the illuminated door and enter it. Oh, and make sure that your flashlight is off. ;)

Inside is the monster. Don't move left. Instead move to the right and push the call button. You'll find that the button doesn't work. You'll be directed to enter the Wing Court Basement, where the generator is, as turning it back on should allow you to use the call button.

Just so that things make a little more sense, this room is the lobby of the apartment block and is the only exit out of the entire building. You're trying to find a way to kill the monster so that you can get out. Being directed to enter the Wing Court Basement now allows access to it. The Lone Survivor didn't want to enter it before, because he didn't have a reason to and it creeped him out.

Now that you've been directed to enter the Wing Court Basement, exit the room. Move right, back to the west fire exit. Enter the door.

West Fire Exit, 1F

Take the stairs down to the Wing Court Basement. Before you do, a small amount of script will trigger.

Script

You: 'So, that huge creature in the lobby... Maybe I can get it into the elevator? If I can get that working again somehow... I know it goes down to the basement, anyway. Well, here goes... [Walks down stairs.]'

West Fire Exit, B1F

One of the worst parts about this area, along with the fairly harsh rise in difficulty, is that you don't receive a map immediately. Collect the Battery to the left of the stairs. The left door's sealed shut, so enter the right one.

Wing Court Basement, East

Turn the flashlight on and read the sign to the left of the door. Although it points left towards the generator, you can't mark down the exact location without a map. Instead, move right. Make sure your flashlight is on and grab the Flares lying on the ground. Continue on and enter the first door.

Inside is a mirror. Your flashlight should still be on. Use the light to pick up the Squid Stick off of the ground to the left of the mirror. It might be a good idea to use the mirror to go back to your apartment and save your game now. Once you're ready, exit the room and turn your flashlight off. Move right to the next corridor and enter before the monster can hurt you. Be quick. Alternatively, you can kill the monster and grab the Tin of Beans hidden in the darkness behind it.

Turn on your flashlight and move left until you reach the map. Yay! Grab it and the Lone Survivor will automatically open it up. You'll immediately notice that the basement has a very different layout compared to the two main floors. Note the room with the faint lightning bolt shape in it. This is the generator room, but it's currently locked. Lone Survivor will also note the marked room. This is where you're heading for now.

First though, stand in front of the room to your left. Turn your flashlight off and enter. Inside is a monster which, unlike the monsters you've encountered before, can jump onto the ceiling. You can either kill it, or run away from it until it jumps onto the ceiling. When on the ceiling, this monster and all other monsters like are invincible, so don't waste precious ammo if it jumps up. When it jumps onto the ceiling or you've killed it, move over and pick up the Large Fuse then leave the room. If it's on the ceiling, you'll need to get out of the room quickly before it drops back down.

Once you're back in the corridor, move back right. You can't move any further left because of a hole in the floor. Continue right until you move out of this corridor. If you haven't defeated the monster in front of the corridor that you just moved out of, quickly move left before it can hurt you. Now continue left, making sure your flashlight is off. Move past the door leading to the fire exit and enter the first entrance to a corridor that you come upon.

Checking your map, you should now be in the corridor one below and parallel with the corridor that you found the map in. There are three monsters all together to your left, so brute force isn't going to work here like it would with only one or two. Place one Rotting Meat at the beginning of the corridor to lure one monster away from the others. It will move toward it. Ready yourself near the meat with your handgun drawn. When it's close enough to be shot in the head, open fire. Quickly kill it and move back into the corridor you can from before the other monsters reach you. If it jumps onto the ceiling, you have no choice but to exit, re-enter and try again.

Once you defeat the first monster, simply re-enter the corridor and repeat for the next monster, then kill the last monster as you normally would. If the second monster jumps onto the ceiling, you can simply attack the last monster then continue left before the last one jumps down. Move past the door along the back wall near the left end of the corridor unless you want to look at a writhing thing in the room. Move out of the corridor at the left end.

Wing Court Basement, Central

Turn your flashlight on and move left past the door to the hole in the floor. Just before the hole are ten Ground Espressos. Pick them up, turn your flashlight off and move back right. Move past the entrance to the corridor you just came through and continue until you reach two monsters. Defeat them as normal, unless you wish to use the Rotting Meat tactic you used before, sneaking back into the corridor you came from after killing the first monster to stop the second from catching you. Once they're defeated, move right until you come upon the door just before the entrance to a corridor near the end of the current one. Make sure your flashlight is off before you enter.

Inside is a monster. Kill it then collect the Ammo on the ground on the right side of the room. Once you have it, look at the maw. You'll be asked if you want to put your hand inside it. Do so. You'll find the Generator Key. You can now enter the generator room! First you need the Gasoline Can though. Move back into the corridor and move right, entering the entrance to a connecting corridor. Turn your flashlight on, move right and pick up the Prawn Crackers. Turn your flashlight back off and move back into the corridor that you just came from.

Move left past the door and enter the first connecting corridor that you come upon.

Wing Court Cellar

You're now in the Cellar. Move left until you come upon an illuminated door. Enter it. Turn your flashlight and grab the Bottle of Milk to the right of the door. There's a mirror in this room which you can and should use to teleport back to your apartment. Restock on Rotting Meats and save. Once you're done, exit this room. Move left until you move into the corridor that goes south.

Move right and enter the first door you come across. You'll be in a small room. Turn on your flashlight and pick up the Ammo off of the floor. Turn your flashlight off again and move back into the corridor. The next door is locked and the one after that doesn't contain anything. Don't ever enter that door as you will become permanently trapped and have to restart from your last save.

Just past the third door are two fat monsters. Fat monsters are much more difficult to defeat. Don't aim up when shooting them as they can't be hit this way. They struggle to see the Lone Survivor unless he is very close. They take five shots to be knocked onto the ground. When on the ground they can move much quicker, still attack and can see you more easily, but you can move past them whilst they are in this state. They take four shots after being knocked onto the ground to be killed. They can be immediately knocked to the ground by placing a flare near them. They don't react to the placing of Rotting Meats and don't chase you at all whilst standing up, even if being shot at.

The best strategy is to simply use flares to knock them to the ground and then move past them before they attack. Do this for the first one then enter the room just after it. Pick up the Battery and move back into the corridor. Use a flare on the next fat monster. Move past the next door as it's sealed off. Enter the one after it. Inside is the Gasoline Can! Turn on your flashlight and grab it. Turn it back off and exit. Continue right past the locked door and enter the last one. Turn your flashlight on, grab the Beef Jerky on the ground, turn it back off and exit once more. Now that you have all the things necessary to start the generator up you can go back and do so. You unfortunately can't just continue east and then turn north as there's a hole in the floor. It's time to back track.

Run left past the two fat monsters and keep running until you're back to the last corridor. They can see you even when they're well off-screen and seem to notice you at very random times. If you hear them growling, it means that they're moving towards you very quickly. Once you're back in the last corridor, move right. Enter the door with the mirror to go back to your apartment to restock and save. Once you're ready move back into the corridor and continue right. Continue until you move out of the current corridor into the centre vertical corridor of the Basement.

Wing Court Basement, Central

Move left and enter the first corridor that you come upon. If there's still a thin monster here, kill it and continue right, back into the starting corridor.

Wing Court Basement, East

There are two thin monsters to your left that you didn't deal with before. Place Rotting Meats to lure one out, kill it then kill the second one when it comes. Be careful if you haven't defeated the thin monster far to your right near the start of your travels through the Basement or you might be dealing with an extra monster. When the monsters are dead, move left until you reach the connecting corridor along the back wall near the end of the current one. Make sure your flashlight is off and enter.

None of the doors in this corridor open. Move left. There's a single thin monster here so kill it as normal and continue to the end of the corridor and move into the next one.

Wing Court Basement, Central

You're just outside the generator room. Move left, unlock the door and enter. Once inside, move over and look at the grotesque sculpture

Script

You: 'My Head! Arrgh, what's happening? [Room Flashes] Help me someone, anyone! Help me! My head... It's pounding...'

[Sound of heartbeat. Lone Survivor passes out. Fade to red.]

[View of nature. Bright colours. Floaty song begins to play. Music is on repeat throughout scene. Song Lyrics can be found by clicking the link.]

You: 'How I did get here? Nothing makes much sense anymore. Am I dead? Is this what it feels like? [Camera pans right, revealing Lone Survivor sitting next to Her on the edge of a mountain] Is this somewhere from my past? Who are you?'

Her: 'You really don't remember me?'

You: 'I'm not sure.'

Her: 'Come on, you! I know you're just teasing really. You always used to tease me like that.'

You: 'I've... never seen you before. I must be dreaming this.'

Her: 'Very funny, you! Anyway, I'm glad you took me here. It's been a long time since we left the city. It looks so far away from here...'

You: 'Yeah, it does. I'd forgotten what it felt like. Peaceful.'

[Lone Survivor and Her hold hands. Pause. They let go of each other's hands.]

Her: 'You know, we should play that game we used to play. I'll run off and you count to, like, a million... And then you come and find me! And if you really can't find me, I'll wait for you here. How's that sound?'

You: 'Sounds like fun.'

[Very slow fade to white, with music also fading. Lone Survivor reappears on his knees back in Basement.]

You: 'What's ... happening to me? I ... I have to get out of here... I can't take much more... [Stands up] Get a grip, you. Pull yourself together man! You're stronger than this! Ok, so where are we now? [Turns on flashlight]'

Lone Survivor has appeared back in the generator room. The grotesque sculpture has disappeared and the room looks as it should. Pick up the I.Orange to the left of the door. Move right and stand in front of the fuel pipe. Use the Gasoline Can on it to provide fuel for the generator. Move right, over to the fusebox. Stand in front of it and use the Large Fuse. The generator is now ready to be turned on. Move back over to the fuel pipe and use should be given the option to turn the generator on. Do so. You'll hear whirring to signal that the generator's running. Turn your flashlight off to conserve battery. Leave the room.

Your next objective is to use the elevator. Open your map and note the green 'E' under the green box. This represents the elevator and where we're heading next. Move right and move back into the corridor leading towards the eastern part of the Basement. Move right along this corridor to the very end. Move into the next one.

Wing Court Basement, East

  • Move right until you reach the corridor between the two fire exit doors. Move into it. Move left through the corridor and exit into the centre corridor.

Wing Court Basement, Central

  • Move right and enter the first connecting corridor. It's hidden in darkness, so you may need to use your flashlight to see it.

Wing Court Cellar

Move left. It's recommended that you enter the illuminated door and use the mirror inside to go to your apartment and save before continuing, as the next part's pretty difficult. Restocking on your Rotting Meats is also a nice idea. When you're ready, continue to the end of the corridor and move into the next one.

The two fat monsters are now on the ground to your right. It's best to just keep moving right, past them to the end of the corridor. You might take a bit of damage, but it's better than wasting ammo killing them. At the end, move into the illuminated next corridor.

Move down this corridor. Don't worry about the smoke, it's not harmful. Turn on the flashlight and pick up the tin of Rice Pudding on the ground around where the smoke starts. Continue right and move into the next corridor.

Wing Court Basement, Central

  • Move left into the next corridor.

Wing Court Basement, South

You're now in the long corridor at the southern-most part of the basement. Note that the doorway back to where you came from is at the part of the corridor illuminated by a circle of light. Keep that in mind just in case you need to use it suddenly.

You have monsters, both fat and thin, to either side of you now. First move left. Kill the thin monster there. If it jumps onto the ceiling, just move left, turn your flashlight on and grab the Ammo off of the ground, otherwise do it after it's dead. Move back right, past the doorway. Move up to the fat monsters. Wait until they're standing close to each other and place a flare next to them to knock them to the ground. Before they attack you, move past them and continue right.

Use the light of the flare to pick up the Fruit Salad when you come upon it. Continue right, going past the illuminated doorway leading to the elevator. Continue on and turn your flashlight at the end of the corridor. Pick the three flares on the ground, then move back and enter the hallway leading to the elevator.

You're now next to the elevator. Don't turn it on just yet, instead move right and enter the door. Once inside, you can move left past the mirror and unlock the door at the end to create a shortcut back to the start of the basement, but there's absolutely no point, unless you've missed anything. Use the mirror in the centre of the room to teleport to your apartment. Save and restock, then teleport back. Move back right into the hallway with the elevator in it. Get ready for something very difficult! After pushing this button, you won't be able to do anything else in the basement unless you restart, so make sure you're ready to go. When you are, move over and push the call button to the left of the elevator.

Script

You: 'I hope this works...'

[Pushes button. Elevator moves. Pause. Thumping on elevator. Lone Survivor falls to his knees.]

You: 'Damn, what's that?'

[A roar sounds.]

You: 'Oh no...'

[Elevator begins to get ripped open.]

You: 'I need to run!'

[Moves left back into corridor.]

You need to run away from the giant monster as quickly as you can now. There's no known way to use the shortcut back to the start of the basement and really seems to be there just to piss you the hell off. Guess what? Lone Survivor's also too dumb to go into the rooms with mirrors along the way, so you have to run to the fire exit in the basement and go out that way. WTF? Remember that you can use 'P' to pause the game at any point whilst running away from the monster so that you can refer to this guide on what to do next.

You're back in the long corridor; immediately run left. The two fat monsters from before have now disappeared. Continue running left until you reach the illuminated connecting corridor and immediately enter. The monster will take a swing at you whilst you run away, but it'll miss.

Wing Court Basement, Central

Run right and enter the door just before the hole in the floor. It's half in shadows, so be careful not to overshoot it. Run left in the next corridor and move off-screen into the connecting one at the end.

You're back in the corridor with all of the doors (you can't enter any of them now though). The fat monsters have disappeared here too. Just run left until you reach the illuminated connecting corridor.

Wing Court Cellar

  • Run right to the very end of this corridor and move into the next one.

Wing Court Basement, Central

  • Move left here and enter the half-illuminated entrance to the corridor. Move right down the next one into the starting corridor.

Wing Court Basement, East

  • Move right and enter the fire exit door illuminated by blue light.

West Fire Exit, B1F

You can no longer go back into the rest of the basement, so use the stairs to go back to Wing Court 1F.

Note that if you backtrack to your apartment without using a mirror and use the mirror there, you won't teleport back to the basement where you last used a mirror, but will instead teleport to the lobby of the building, where the giant monster used to be before getting trapped in the basement. There really is no way to get back to the basement.

West Fire Exit, 1F

  • Enter the right door.

Wing Court 1F, South

Move left. If you didn't kill the monsters here, be a little careful. Continue until you reach the illuminated door just past the hiding spot and enter it. You're now in the lobby of the building where the giant monster used to be. You can't use the elevator anymore. You don't need to use the mirror to the left of the exit to the city; you'll be back in your apartment soon enough. Enter the main doors.

Script

You: 'I can't believe... I made it... ...at last... Maybe it will do me good to be outside... Then again, maybe it'll kill me. I don't really care to be honest. I'm rotting in there like those things... Well... It's time to go. [Opens door, slow fade to white.]'

It's time for... the... city!

The City

You're finally outside! The City can be quite large, so read on to find out the best way to navigate through it. It's also got a lot of optional quests, many more than any other area, so making sure you do everything can be tricky. Either way, this is the final area in the game; you're almost there!

33rd Street

Move left and pick up the F.Escape Key. Remember mention of a fire escape somewhere in the game? That's right, back in your apartment! Move right, until you reach the end of the building. Use the stairs. You'll walk up them and use the fire escape key to open up access to your apartment from outside. You'll automatically enter your apartment.

Apartment 206

  • Restock and rest. When you're ready, go back outside through the fire escape.

33rd Street

At the base of the stairs, move right, past the back alley next to you. You can't do much there without the key to the arcade, so don't worry about it just yet. Continue until you reach the gun shop. Make sure your flashlight is off and enter the door there.

Click on the following link if you wish to complete the optional Hank the Ammo Jockey Side-Quest (Recommended).

33rd Street

You're now back outside (if you've completed the side quest). Either way, wait for the closest thin monster to move away, then drop three Rotting Meats in front of the door and quickly hide in the alcove just to the right of the building. Wait for all three of the thin monsters to move past, then come out of hiding and continue right. Move past the locked door and enter the open door just before the end of the street.

Script

[Lights flash revealing the Lone Survivor on his knees in a room with a chair and end table]

You: 'My head!!! Don't die on me now, flashlight!'

[Lights are switched on by unknown man clicking his fingers]

You: 'What is this light? Where's it coming from?'

[Lone Survivor stands up]

You: 'Wait, do I know you?'

???: 'I don't know. Do you know me?'

[Unknown man clicks fingers, lights turn off. Lights flash and unknown man is now standing behind Lone Survivor.]

???: 'How about now? Do you know me now?'

[Lone Survivor turns around]

???: 'We're on the same team, you and I... Aren't we? So, I'm gonna ask you again... DO YOU KNOW ME?'

Choose one of the two following speech options to make different things occur:

  • I know you.
  • I don't know you.

Depending on your choice, the corresponding script will occur.

Script: I know you.

You: 'I know exactly who you are. You don't need to tell me.'

???: 'Have a seat...'

[Man clicks fingers. Lights flash off, then on. Lone Survivor is sitting on the seat, unknown man is on the right side of the room and Chie is standing between.]

???: 'Now, let's dance!'

[Man clicks fingers. Music plays. Lone Survivor holds his hand to his head. Chie and man begin dancing. Lone Survivor looks up.]

You: 'Chie? Are you in this together? Or are you making her do this? Chie, wake up!'

Chie: 'Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. He can look after me now.'

[Room distorts a little; goes back to normal.]

You: 'Can't you see? There's something wrong with this guy!'

???: 'You know my name. Why won't you just say it?'

[Room distorts. Man clicks fingers. Slow fade to white as room distorts every so often. Music continues playing.]

Script: I don't know you.

You: 'There's no way you really exist. So I'm not paying any attention to you!'

???: 'Have a seat...'

[Man clicks fingers. Lights flash off, then on. Lone Survivor is sitting on the seat, unknown man is on the right side of the room and Her is standing between.]

???: 'Now, let's dance!'

[Man clicks fingers. Music plays. Lone Survivor holds his hand to his head. Her and man begin dancing. Lone Survivor looks up.]

You: 'But I've seen you before... If I do know you, why can't I remember? What is your name anyway? Who the hell are you? Are you the reason I'm in this situation? Tell me, please!'

???: 'I wouldn't worry about him...'

[Man disappears. Her stops dancing.]

???: 'And I wouldn't worry about me, either. It's time to move on.'

[Room becomes brighter. Slow fade to white. Music continues playing.]
