Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
Review by Unreal Demon
"Even in 2006, a nice and addicting game."
Gameplay - 7/10 - The gameplay isn't something awesome and innovative, but you can be sure that you can do anything that a normal shooter does. Not much besides the normal run and shoot, but you can pilot a giant robot, which has his own weapons and a special vehicle mode which makes you go faster, and be able to run over enemies. Besides this, almost everything is breakable, which is quite funny, specially when you attack a tree and it turns into a hundred of small planks.
Story - 10/10 - The strongest part of this game, the story is a bit animesque. Avenge the deaths of your brother, friend, and ex-girlfriend. It has some funny moments, with actual good jokes. Yes, good jokes in a shooter. Rare to see. Nowadays games don't have deep stories like this, even if they have the resources to.
Graphics/Sound - 8.5/10 - Flashy? Nope. Even though it was released at almost the same time that Half-Life, don't expect it to be like Half-Life. The graphics were average for when it was released, and in certain parts, the posters and advertisements on the walls give you a feeling that you really are in a futuristic, and a bit apocalyptic future.
The sounds are very nice, one of the best voice actings I saw. As the graphics, they could be a bit better, but do their job nicely. The enemies don't simply scream when they die, they sometimes talk a few words, and in a way that made me believe that someone must have punched the voice actors, because they have a sound of agony.
Replayability - 9/10 - I must admit. This game is short. You can finish it in 6 to 10 hours, depending on your gaming skills. But not only each second is worth the money you pay, there's also two endings. And, if you're not using a walkthrough you won't know where to save to be able to skip most of the game.
However, in the higher difficulty setting, you will take much longer.
Final Recommendation - Believe me, if you find a copy of this game, buy it. It's around 10 dollars, it's pretty cheap, and well worth it. It's very rare, unfortunately.
