"In short, one of the best FPS ever."
Upon starting this game up, the first thing you should notice, in the first video, is the impeccable facial characteristics. "Wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes." This game had hype to live up to, thusly so, people judged it more harshly. I know I did, and I will tell you, this game lived up to and exceeded expectations.
Story (7/10): As the story progresses, the player experiences tidbits of information of the city and its foundings. The only grip I can muster is that there is an apparent lack of motivation in the beginning of the game. You start off, and you have no idea where your going or how you got there. All you know is that you want to tell that soldier beating you with that electric rod that he should shove that into some vulgar orifice. This is definitely a dystopian society which Gordon Freeman finds himself in., and that fact becomes much more apparent as the story progresses. They leave you out on a limb at the end, which adds to the idea that there is going to be a third installment in the series.
Graphics (10/10): These are by far the best graphics I have ever encountered on the PC. First, the facial expressions are magnificent. Emotions are actually explicit on characters faces. Second, the explosions are wonderful. Third, nearly all objects have near perfect graphics. Valve certainly did not skip the meticulous detail planning. Basically, this game has the greatest graphics ever on the PC. This game has graphically set a new plateau for all FPS to come.
Gameplay (10/10): One of the most rewarding feelings is the one when you get to use the Gravity Gun for the first time. Nothing rivals that jubilant and overwhelming feeling of throwing an exploding barrel at a handful of Combine soldiers. Also, the physics engine is near perfect. There is nothing Gordon cant pick up or use to his advantage. It adds a whole other approach to the game. Instead of shooting those five Combine soldiers on the bridge, you could just shoot the exploding barrel at the bottom, toppling the bridge and sending the soldiers falling to their doom. If you whack a piece of wood, it splinters. If you throw a bottle on the ground, it shatters. It certainly is impressive to say the least.
Value (10/10): This game is guaranteed to satisfy you for 20 hours and beyond, considering its near limitless potential towards modding. There are several different mods already out, within a week and a half of its release, including the Counter-Strike source.
Multiplayer (9/10): This game does not have a direct multiplayer per se, yet it comes packaged with the CS Source. That is nearly a game in itself, and especially since coupled with the overhaul Half Life 2 saw, it is garunteed to satisfy.
Reviewers Tilt 10/10
I highly recommend a purchase of this game. Games like this come out once every five years, and to miss it would be a mockery on common decency, not to mention it would be idiotic. This is a gem which shall be cherished for years to come. It is a wonder that they still produce games like this.
