"Maxis has rekindled the old Sims experience!"
The Sims 1 was the biggest selling video game of all time and the next generation doesn't disappoint. It takes the human simulation genre and raises the bar even more so. The game isn't perfect but the new features and the timeless open ended game play make up for the very few flaws.
The game play is like the first Sims. The new features are confusing at first but over time you'll get used to the new fears and wants game play. The Sims now tell you what they fear and what the want to do. They can now choose between 5 different aspirations; Fame, Family, Knowledge, Romance or Fortune. Overall it is the same addictive game play as the first Sims.
The music isn't the best but does improve on the originals. But the sound adds to the feel and fits in nicely.
The graphics has had a HUGE improvement. Gone are the dull 2d Sims to make way for the all new 3d Sims game! Also the new navigation and view features like; being able to control the camera and move it in all dimensions (from zooming, moving around in 3d). The Sims themselves are now in 3d and they very customizable. Be careful though the game's graphics are very demanding so make sure your video card is up to it! Overall the graphics are excellent.
The open ended game play kept the game going even until even now. With The first Sims, Maxis released expansion packs to add to their world as well as new objects, clothes, skins ready to download from their website. The Sims community pitched in as well sharing the gaming experience to make the first always have something new. The Sims 2 is no different. Their website offers new objects, neighborhoods, clothes, programs to create what you want & so much more! Also you can expect a few more expansions to come! The game will last you months if not years!
If you enjoyed the first you will love the sequel. With the new features and classic Sims feel and game play you'll never have a dull moment.
Rent or Buy?
If you are new to the game and still unsure about whether to purchase it rent it first. But if the little sneak peeks of the game and reviews have convinced you definitely buy it, you'll never regret it.
The sequel lives up to its expectations and then some. Old and new fans rejoice because EA & Maxis have made a winner!
