Question from cbhoov1

Why can't I can't get Zero Hour to install on Windows 7?

Zero Hour installed fine under Windows XP, and Generals installed fine under Windows 7, but Zero Hour hangs right before the Product Key entry screen. Has anyone been able to install Zero Hour under Windows 7?

abel01 asked for clarification:

Greetings guys. Firstly, when installing any game, ensure you are logged into your Windows 7 system as an administrator.

Secondly, find the setup program (not the .msi file, the actual setup.exe). Right click on it, and click on "Run As Administrator". Then just follow the steps after that. If it does not install properly, exit setup, right click on the setup.exe again and go to the "compatibility" tab. In the drop down menu, select Windows XP (SP 3). Hit Apply/Ok, and try running setup again.

When ZH is installed, go to the install directory and right click on the game executable (generals.exe I believe). By running as administrator and in XP SP3 compat. mode as indicated above, the game will not only work but you will now get a non-static menu (a problem myself and others have experienced while running ZH on Windows 7).

As always ensure you have the latest sound and video drivers installed. (Right click "Computer" in start menu, Click on "Properties" and then "Device Manager" on the left. Click the + near Display and Audio adaptors to check which ones you have. Alternatively, you can do the same by hitting start, typing in "dxdiag" and hitting enter.

Hope this helps!
