"Short but So Very Fun"
Lets get down to the nitty gritty.
This is where Hitman: Contracts really shines. The improved textures, weapon effects and lighting effects are all A+ improvements over hitman 2: silent assassin. Most noticeable are the fog effects and how light seems to mesh with them. It creates a rather clean and cold feel to some of the most cold and gritty areas of Hitman: Contracts. Character models are also much more crisp and smooth.
Level Design is highly improved in Hitman: Contracts. While some of the levels are remakes, they are so completely redone that the design is a 100% improvement over the previous games. Many more places to hide bodies and strike out from. As far as AI goes. the AI, while smart, often knows too often exactly where youll be after you fire a shot.
As far as combat goes, It is highly improved. You cant just shoot someone in the knee caps and kill them. they will fall to the ground in pain, and sometimes even call out to friends that are close by. This makes for a very engrossing experience.
Also worth mentioning are the myriad of ways that have been added to complete your objectives.
Much improved over Hitman 2. Gun sounds are much more realistic and make shooting guys infinitely more enjoyable. As far as music is concerned, the new soundtrack is excellent, although it didnt kick in often enough during the levels to satisfy my music needs.
One of the weaker points of Hitman: Contracts is its storyline. Most of it being rehashing old levels and old ideas. Id probably rate this game lower if the other elements werent so good. To its credit however, the ending leaves alot of room for a sequel with an actual plot.
As with Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts includes the ranking system. Accomplishing missions without alerting the guards and only killing the targets can net you a silent assassin ranking, which unlocks cool, unique new weapons. These weapons make it a blast to go through the same old levels again with cool weapons like the Gold Desert Eagle, and the Silenced M4s and AK-74s. Or you could try an even greater challenge by getting the sociopath by killing everyone in a level without alerting the guards once.
A short, but fun game, which is definately worth buying if you enjoyed hitman 2's gameplay or if you're new to the games altogether
