Console problem ?

Hi, i'm having problems with the console, and not the usual problem, i can bring the console up, but when i type in a cheat like

Hi, i'm having problems with the console, and not the usual problem, i can bring the console up, but when i type in a cheat like "god" or whatever, and i press enter , nothing happens, its as if i didn't press enter, the text is still there in the type bar, and to get it away i have to press backspace... can someone please help me ?
