Question from BFTCHRIS9
Mods!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?
Please tell me how to install and download a mod as simple as posible thank you.
99.9% of mods come with installation instructions in the readme.txt file. Be sure to read them carefully, improperly installing mods is the fastest way to a complete game reinstall.
Many mods have other requirements which must be met. Example 1, most clothing/armor mods require you to have the proper body texture replacer mod installed first. Example 2, lots of mods require the Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE), which is a program created by the community to provide additional scripting options for mod authors.
Bottom line.... Read The Instructions Provided With The Mod Carefully.
In most cases for simple mods, simply open the archive and extract the files to the required location. Highly recommend extracting to a temporary folder then moving the files manually rather than extracting directly to your Oblivion directory.
Once this is finished, click on the Data Files button of the game launcher. You must activate the .esp file here so the game knows to load the mod.
Each mod may have different option sets that require you to change the file structure before moving files into your Oblivion directory. Example, texture replacers often have multiple options. Often you will need to rename files of your chosen option set or delete unneeded files.
Generally, mods come in .zip, .rar, or .7z archive format. If you are unfamiliar with archives, you'll need to download a program such as WinRAR.
Highly recommend using Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM). It can be confusing at first, but once you understand how it works there is no better way to install mods. Easy to change load order and uninstall, rather than tracking down every single file separately for deletion and you won't need to replace any overwritten files. Can also find mods in "OMOD Ready" format, which makes installation even faster.
TESNexus is the best place to download mods from. Strong and helpful community. Read the FAQs available there for further assistance.
