|Introduction|
\;;;;;1.0;;;;/

This is the first time I've ever written a guide for any site so try and bare
with me on this. Any pointers or anything you wish to contribute can be sent
to me with the email address below. Please just include oblivion or alchemy
in the subject to insure that I read it.

**Important**
This is mainly just a big compilation of all the potions and poisons people
on the message boards have come up with. I will give all alchemists their
due credit since I didn't make much of the stuff on here. I'm working on
coming up with some lower level potions since I am only an apprentice in
alchemy right now. Hopefully I can make some great potions and poisons like
these guys.

Please feel free to email me your submissions and your name or username. But,
it would probably be better to post it in the alchemy post.

Most of these are for Expert or Master Alchemists.
**If the potions can be made at lower levels it will be noted**

The title of this post is 'Alchemy! Post Your Favorite Potions Here!'
You will get some expert advice which can make your potion better.

**IMPORANT**
You will find that almost all the aspects of alchemy are covered
in SECTION 4.0

|Lagaman83's Alchemy Revealed|
\;;;;;;;;;;;;;4.0;;;;;;;;;;;;/

Lagaman83ís Alchemy Revealed!

Alchemy. Just saying the word brings thoughts of children in large suits of
armor and arrogant short blond boys with magical science...

Oh wait, that is the wrong type of alchemy, my bad.

So your interested in alchemy, yet you do not know what to do. Donít worry!
That is why I am here, to show you the ropes of the wide world of alchemy.
However if you know the ropes then scroll down to the break to get to the
leveling guide.

*WARNING! INCOMING N00B GUIDE! WARNING!*

Alchemy is blah blah blah ...you donít need a history lesson to learn alchemy,
you only need a few things to create potions of your very own. The most
essential ingredient would have to be the mortar and pestle.
It is the first and foremost alchemy tool, which not only allows you to access
the potion menu but also determines the strength of your potion. Sort of like
the "Base" to your potion; the better the Mortar and Pestle, the stronger your
potion will be.

There are also three other tools that you can use when performing alchemy,
The Calcinarator increases the potency of all the effects of the potion, even
the negative effects. The Retort only increases the positive effects of your
potion, however is still a valuable tool. And finally the alembic reduces any
negative effect in a potion.

It is pretty important to note that with the Alembic that it will not affect
your poisons. So you donít need to drop your Alembic every time you want to
make a poison...

Oh yes, I forgot to mention. If you create a potion with no positive effects
you donít create a potion like in Morrowind, instead you create a poison. You
can then coat you weapon (or arrow) in this poison before battle and when the
enemy is hit they will be affected by that poison. Just in case you didnít
know in the beginning.

So you got your tools and are ready to start, but you are forgetting one more
thing you need. Thatís right, you need two ingredients to make a potion out of
What? Did you think potions just popped out the mortar? Nope, but you do get
close later on, that is a story for another day though. Lucky for you almost
every creature drops something that can be used in alchemy. More than likely
you have a few of these ingredients on you right now, so just pick them up and
lets get ready to potion!

Okay, we got tools and ingredients, now it is time to start crafting. Go into
your inventory and select your Mortar and Pestle this will bring you to your
potion menu. Press "A" on one of those place ingredient here spots and you
will get a list of your ingredients. Now if you highlight the ingredient it
should have a slide out info thing pop on to you screen. This shows all the
effects of the ingredient. Your goal is to get two ingredients with two
similar effects in those spots. So if you get two ingredients with "Restore
Fatigue" then your potion will have the effect "Restore Fatigue".

The same holds true for making poisons, however please remember that if there
is even one positive effect on that poison you will have a potion instead.
So take you two ingredients and place them into the slots. Most peoples first
potion is a restore fatigue potion, and usually it doesnít pay very well and
is a poor quality. However this is not the light at the end of the tunnel.
Like most skills they really suck until you invest some time into them.

Do you notice those question marks on the slide out? Those are unknown effects
, and they are your reward for continued alchemy. As you progress, you gain
more effects that you can use. For example, A cheese wedge would only look
like it has a restore fatigue effect, like most other food items. However
once you get to journeyman you find out That same cheese wedge has Flame
Shield, an ability only held by Fire Salts (so far). The higher your level
the more effects you can see.

Once you are happy with the effects, then press "X" and you Volia! Potion for
you! Nothing to it eh? Now do that 1000 more times and you too can become a
master. What? You want me to help? Okay!

*END OF N00B GUIDE!*

Need to level alchemy? Well there are two ways I can think of off the top of
my head. The first is the only legit way to level, and that is to do an
Imperial City Raid with a splash of farms. However if you do not want to deal
with all the fuss of leveling your character legit...you can always dupe.

I am NOT going to repost the dupe trick! It is everywhere, do a search for it,
look in the cheats section, just donít bother asking ME about it. I will only
cover the legit way, because it is the way I did it.

********

Ok I just wanted to put the dupe trick here for all you dirty cheaters :)

Step 1: Equip a bow and any set of arrows
Step 2: Pull RIGHT TRIGGER to set the arrow on your bow DO NOT RELEASE!
Step 3: Press the B BUTTON to enter the journal
Step 4: Go over your equipped arrows and press the A BUTTON twice
Step 5: Drop the ingredient(s)
Step 6: Press the B BUTTON to exit the journal
Step 7: Watch your screen slow down because of all the ingredients on the
        screen
Step 8: Pick up ingredients

More INFO:
the number of duplicates is equal to the number of arrows that you had
equipped

Ok back to the great minguide

*********

First things first you need to head to the Imperial City Talos Plaza District.
Your not going to be stealing anything or performing any tricks, instead this
is the best way for a legit player to get higher in alchemy easy. Your job is
simple, your going to visit every tavern, inn, and store in the Imperial city
and buy EVERY piece of food from every market that is under 10 g.

Why 10 g? Because you are going to sell your potions and 10g just so happens
to be the minimal loss point for selling potions. On average you will spend
roughly 5 g per food item, 2 ingredients =10 g. The least powerful potion you
can create will sell for 10g with a decent mercantile. So at least you will
break even if you follow my strategy.

Back on track, go to the Tiger Septim Hotel and buy all the food under 10g,
should be about everything except boar meat. Now go to the Foaming Flask which
is close to the north gate in talos, or the gate to the eleven gardens
district. Buy all the food under 10 g and leave to the eleven gardens
district.

From now on I am only going to list the relative location of every inn for
now, I think you got the idea. The eleven gardens district has two places to
buy: The King and Queen Tavern and Luther Broadís Boarding House. Both are
right next to each other, so it is hard to miss them. The Market District
is your holy godsend for leveling alchemy. The gilded carafe, the feed bag,
the secret ingredient, the three brothers trade goods, the copious coinpurse,
the merchants inn, AND jensineís "Good as new" Merchandise. They are all easy
to find, so I feel there is no need to list locations.

Um...nothing to get at the arena district, move along. The temple district has
the all-saints inn, which is located not that far from the talos entrance on
the east side. The waterfront which is south of the temple district has only
one place to collect ingredients, and that would be the bloated float, a
ship/inn on the SW side of the waterfront.

After all that you shouldíve gotten a good sum of ingredients. Maybe too much,
if your lucky. It was pretty rare when I didnít need to use a Feather spell to
cart around the ingredients, You could just make all the potions and sell them
, if you do then do it at one of the high yield stores like the guilded carafe
or the main ingredient. Easier than selling to a hotel I guarantee you.

There are also places out in the wild that have a TON of alchemy ingredients,
and those places are called Ďfarmsí. They are hard to locate however they
usually have loads of food, and food equals levels for alchemy. Here I will
list a few of the harder to find farms, but that shouldnít discourage you from
finding your own...

Aleswell is a small farming village, good amount of stuff to find. From the
Talos plaza district head north-north-east, for the not so bright, go north
but slightly east. You should hit it on the head after hitting Fort
Caractacus.

Harmís Folly is another farming settlement not that far from the main roads.
You can easily get there by leaving Cheydinhal and head north-east. It will
take a little while but you will get there eventually.

Weatherleah has a quest behind it before you can harvest, but it does have a
unique weapon at the end of it, and food! It is South South-West from Chorrol,
but once again a little ways away.

Odiil Farm is easy to find. All you got to do is go down the black road and
you will run into it. Shetcombe Farm is another one of those hard farms to
find, it is located close to kavatch. If heading from Kavatch head North
North-West. Shardrock, a small farm, is another hidden little gem of a farm.
Either go North-East from Skingrad or North-west from Kavatch.
Lord Dradís estate is the last place I can think of with food, and that is
located directly north of Anvil. Also there is a quest involved at this farm
so if you want you can complete the quest or save it for later.

If you have followed the guide so far you should be gaining levels like
nothing. However you are not done yet. You see, since alchemy is dependant on
your gear, you need to get yourself some good gear to use. How do you get said
gear? Well that is the tough part

You see, all alchemy equipment is what I like to call "Leveled Loot". What
that means is that you will only get certain equipment at certain levels.
What are these levels? I do not know, there are certain secrets that can only
be solved with the PC version. However what I can tell you is the best
locations to get said equipment...

But first thing is first...
If youíre a mage then you will have this easy, if not then you might have a
little trouble. You see, there was a recent discovery that when you had a
boosted luck you would get better items in the dungeon. Since all the items
are spawned when you walk into the dungeon, if you boost your luck into the
100 range you will have a better chance of getting the items you want.

How do you boost? Well there are only a few ways. You can either use a spell
which is easy for the mages, or equipment which is again for the mages. The
only thing I can think of for the non-mage would be a potion (Which would be
fairly weak) or a Sigil Stone (Which could take some time to get).

*Update* Recently Bethesda has introduced some new downloadable content,
called the Mages Tower. For 150 Microsoft Points, you can enchant and create
spells without being a part of the mages guild. Not to mention there are a
bunch of alchemy ingredients for you to use:)

If you want to go the way of the potion, well we have a small problem. You see
there are no ingredients that you can use early on that will boost luck. You
need to be a journeyman to make a Luck potion. If you want to take that route,
then here is a quickie potion to get you going.

Luck Booster Shot (Fortify Luck) =
Bonemeal + Primrose Leaves

********************
As Dominic Arnone pointed out...

Also you can save right before opening chests then cast fortify luck 100pts
on self spell to increase your chances

you can create fortify luck 100 pts for 2 seconds on self at the mages guild
2 seconds should be enough time to cast it and open the chest
********************

Drink a few of these before entering a dungeon and you should get some good
items, and maybe even that master piece you need...

Sigil Stones are by far the easiest to get in comparison to the other methods.
Once you have unlocked the Oblivion Gates by closing the gate at Kavatch,
just enter any other gate, get to the part where your at the sigil stone,
then save before you take it. If you donít get the fortify luck stone right
away, then reload and pick it up again. Do this until you get the stone you
want. Its as easy as that!

The stone is used to enchant an item in your inventory, so do it already!

So you have your luck boosted, using your method of choice. Now what? Well
you put that luck to good use! But where? Well I am getting to that.

There are places that are easier to get alchemy items from. Mainly, any site
that has Necromancers or Mythic Dawn will have alchemy equipment. I found that
other sites didnít even have alchemy equipment, however all had their own
specialty loot (Critter caves have jewelry, Marauders have equipment, ect)

Now there are some dungeons that are better than others to get your gear,
Generally the more boss chests you have the better chance you have to get your
equipment. I know of a few so I will list them like the leveling guide.

Wendelbek is the first dungeon that comes to mind, mainly because of its size.
There are four levels of necromancer goodness, with two boss chests. Plus this
is an Ayleid dungeon, so you have Welkynd and Varlia stones, plus an Ayleid
statue. This dungeon is a great romp, and kind of easy to find to boot. From
Bravil, head east towards the Panther River. Follow the river till you get to
Kindred Cave or Fort Gold-Throat. From Kindred Cave head North North-West and
from Fort Gold-Throat head South-West.

A slightly weaker dungeon, Mackamentain, is another Ayleid dungeon with a
Ayleid Statue. It is a three-level dungeon with a good amount of loot, with
only one boss chest. Plus itís a little tougher to find. From Bravil, head
north-east. Your trying to get to the small lake in between the red river and
silverfish river. The dungeon is not that far from there.

What mage doesnít remember Echo Cave, which is a very big Necromancer dungeon
which is part of the mages guild quest line. There are many boss chests in
this dungeon, but a lot of creatures as well. If you have already cleared out
this dungeon, no worries! Like any other dungeon it restocks in time. To get
there, go East-North-East from Bruma. It might be a bit tricky to get there,
but its worth it trust me.

Other than that, the other dungeons are comparatively small. I will list them
and some rough directions if you wish to check them out for yourself.

Fort Teleman- North-East from Leyawiin, long walk.
Fort Doublecross- North-East from Leyawiin, short walk
Fort Variela- North from Bravil, long walk
Mossrock Cavern- North-North-East from Imperial City Prison, Long walk + Swim
Underpall Cave- North-East from Chorrol, long walk
Hame- South-South-East from Cheydinhal, REAL long walk
Fort Istirus- East from Kavatch, decent walk
Silorn- North-East from Skingrad, decent walk
Fort Linchal- North from Kavatch, decent walk
Garlas Agea- North-East from Anvil, short walk

So as you can see you have a lot of options available to you. However I would
recommend refraining from hunting alchemy equipment until you are a master.
Most of the other equipment can be purchased from a store, so hunting for
expert equipment seems almost moot.

And that is all there is to it! Hopefully this portion of the guide has been
helpful. Here is my buddy to finish up the details.

Thanks alot to Lagaman for writing that great miniguide

++Getting Ironwood Nuts++

from SKipDAwg22

If you are doing the last quest for the thieves guild, The Ultimate Heist,
when you get into the Elder Scrolls library look on the bookshelves around
you. You will see various books and some alchemy items, as well as other
various loot. Since the patrollers are blind, all that you have to do is make
sure you are in sneak mode and continue around until you find them.

from prince caspian7

They are located in the Greyland settlement (not sure) by
Leyawiin. They are in a skooma making house. The ironwood nuts are on a table
inside. You also get a quest from a guard outside of Leyawiin to kill the
skooma makers at Greyland.

*) whenever you see food snatch it up (unless it's stealing) and save it or
go ahead and make some restore fatigue potions

*) personally, whenever I see a harvestable ingredient I go ahead and pick it
up to save for later when it will most likely find it's way into a potion

*) combing the countryside is a great way to find ingredients if you can't
afford it in a shop or they are out of stock

*) if you EVER run across a farm go pick everything in it and make restore
   fatigue potions

*) making a potion is 10x more efficient than eating a raw
ingredient in terms of levelling your alchemy skill

Glitch from nyekobug

I've attained master level in Alchemy quite some time ago, and I
noticed that when I create a potion, any other potion with the same
name and effects will take on the first potion's weight.

For example - I create a potion of Restore Health, that has a restore
4 health, for 18 sec. I do this by using one Cairn Bolete cap (0.1#)
first. Now, I can take the heavier, more useless items such as Daedra
Hearts (2.0#), and Boar Meat (2.0#), and when I create potions with
them, they get grouped into the 0.1# potion collection :). A very
nice way of reducing weight of stuff I'm carrying, especially when
making restore fatigue potions with pumpkins and watermelons.

This works in reverse as well - if I create a restore fatigue potion
with a pumpkin first, any other restore fatigues that have the same
characteristics will weigh 5.0#.

I only mention this at Master level since it's difficult to control
the numbers when your alchemy skill is going up (every time you level
it, it may increase the duration or strength).
