"A Great 2D Hack-And-Slash MMORPG"
Maple Story, a free 2D sidescroller MMORPG, was a game that was developed by a company called Wizet. The game is unique in the way that it was the first 2D game of its type. It has multiple servers with 20 channels each, but it also lacks PK. Basically, all you do is go around and kill, level, do quests, and then repeat this process all over again.
The game is technically a hack and slash, and it doesn't take much time or skill to play it. The game is 2D so it looks like a Super Mario Brothers 2 game. The point of the game is to be the strongest that you can be, so people will be impressed by your high level. A person has four classes to choose from: thief, bowman, mage, and warrior. To add more diversity, the classes branch off into many more classes, such as assassins and clerics. Classes like bowman, mage, and assassin have long range, whereas bandits and warriors have short range. The game is a little frustrating because the gaming community is composed of some younger kids that make life hard for other people. Things like hacking, botting, scamming, flaming, cursing, and racial comments will be encountered in the game. Another downpoint in the game is that there is no PVP, and after leveling up, you realize that you have to start all over again to level up.
Most of the graphics are crisp and clear, and it is very easy to tell anything apart. For people who have slower Internet services, you can change the quality of the pictures of the game to reduce lag. The graphics are more kiddy or anime like, with large eyes and small mouths. You can also customize you character, from anything from the hair, to the skin color, the eyes, and any equipment. Although at the beginning, your choice is limited, with things like cash shop, and arrangement is possible. The best part is that you can play for like ten minutes everyday, and unlike some games, you can still see the leveling progress you have made.
There isn't anything too special about the songs. The sound of enemies dying can be humorous, but after a while, it gets annoying or you just can't hear it anymore. None of the songs on Maple Story are that good, but most of them match where you are, and are pretty catchy yet simple.
There is no story of the game. The only point of the story is to kill enemies, do quests, and be the strongest that you can be.
The controls are easy to get use to. Basically, all there is jump, the pickup button, the attacking button, and the skills. There are many shortcuts to certain places, like skills and items. Also, Maple Story makes it that you can customize where you can put everything, so it fits whatever someone wants.
Replay value: 10/10
The game is endless, as of the final level has never been gotten to. Also, with all the different classes that can be chosen and the way the skill points can be used, there is no end to all the ways someone can take. Although leveling can get very boring, going around and talking to people is always a good way to take a break.
Overall, Maple Story is a great game that is suitable for any age. Here are the pros and cons of the game.
-Many paths to go
-Not time consuming
-Game is incomplete
-Community isn't too good
-Leveling gets boring sometimes
As you can see, Maple Story is an extremely one sided game. For a person, you are either addicted to it or you dislike it entirely. In my opinion, for an MMORPG, this game is spectacular, so the final score I give is a 9. The only reason why I didn't give it a 10 is because it lacked PK and has a pretty bad community.
