"Great game, too bad almost no one plays it..."
Nexuiz is a freeware game which reminds me a lot of Quake 3 Arena or Unreal Tournament. Overall, it is excellent for a free game, although there is really no point in downloading it because almost no one plays it anymore.
This game has awesome graphics considering it is based off of the Quake 3 engine. In the grand scheme of things, the graphics are nothing special and most modern games are far superior in this department, but considering what Nexuiz is, they are great. This game is also very well optimized and will run on practically anything. On low settings and resolution, the game looks horrible, but it should look decent on most modern PCs.
The gunshots and sound effects are a little fake. When you are hit, you here a noise telling you that you got a hit. The music is pretty good though.
The controls of this game are largely customizable. You can change the controls to whatever you want. There are also not too many functions so a good control scheme is possible.
Game Play- 10/10
Overall, the game plays like Quake 3, but with different weapons. The object of the game is to shoot other people and kill more people than anyone else. To do this, players use many different weapons including shotguns, energy weapons, rocket launchers, and machine guns. The guns are extremely exotic and innovative. Like in Unreal Tournament, each features different firing modes. There is nothing really wrong with the game in this department.
Fun Factor- 4/10
Even though there is nothing actually "wrong" with the game, it just is not that fun. No one plays this game anymore, and a game is not fun if there are no people to play against. At this point, you might as well just play Quake Live, since it is a free version of the game that defined this type of first-person shooter.
Replay Value- 5/10
This game has plenty of replay value in theory. The game comes with many maps and there are a lot more to download as well. However, almost no one plays this online anymore. There are only like 30 players on at any given time (maybe around 50 at peak time) and most servers are modified. This makes F.E.A.R.'s dying community look huge in comparison. Around half of the servers are also rather far away, which further limits the number of viable servers to play on (obviously it is not a good idea to play on a server with 300 ping). Unless you plan to play bots, do not bother with this game.
Difficulty/Learning Curve- 10/10
The game is easy to learn and hard to master, which is the way a video game should be in my opinion.
Overall, Nexuiz is a decent game. It is rather fun to play in theory and the graphics do not look bad either. However, the problem is that almost no one plays this anymore. Only like 30 people play this at any given time. While this game is not bad by any means, do not bother with it unless you want to play bots.
