Do you have the Archery passive skill for demon hunters? It gives you a bonus to damage, speed, or crititical strike based upon the weapon type you're using.

Well for starters the Crossbow has a better average damage, IE while it has a lower MAX damage, it has a higher Minimum damage. Meaning its will always do more damage then the bow roughly 16% of the time, though it will do less damage about 25% of the time. So about a 9% difference in favour of the two handed bow. However the bow deals poisen type damage, meaning it deals its additional damage over time. Poisen adds a large ammount of damage to weapons, but that damage is over several seconds after hitting something, while lightning deals its damage instantly. In all likelyhood the crossbow does more White(regular non increased) damage then the who handed bow (Crossbows deal the most damage of any bow at the cost of attack speed) and the addition of the lightning damage just makes it do moreso immediately. Poisen's always been kinda sucky in the Diablo series.
It's because crossbows attack slower than bows. Although the two weapons only differ by 5 DPS, their attack speeds differ by a much larger margin. This means that since the crossbow attacks less times per second, each of its attacks has to hit harder than the bows attacks.
When you're looking at weapons, don't get too preoccupied with the bonus damages, those will only really matter much later when you encounter enemies with elemental immunities. All those additional damages are already factored into that larger DPS number at the top of every weapon's tooltip.
Do you have the Passive skills Archery and Sharpshooter? If you are using both, then the bow may do more damage initially, but once your crit builds up a little bit, the crossbow will pull ahead quickly. If you have enough +crit chance on your gear, the crossbow may be better all the time.
With Archery, 2-handed crossbows give +50% crit damage, which makes crossbows the most desirable weapon type for Demon Hunters. 2-handed bows give 10%, which means less DPS, but it is more consistent, at least.
