Where is the CD-Key?

I was told to use CD-Key but when I used the letters and numbers on the Disk sleeve it said it was a invalid key. What gives?

I bought the collectors edition when the game came out, not sure if its in the same spot for the reg version, but for me, the code was on the back of the little manual inside the game case
