This game isn't worth getting until a bunch of expansion packs are out isn't it?

I mean, you wouldn't get "The Sims (1)" Without a bunch of the expansion packs would you? I have them all though and wouldn't have it any other way. Is there enough to keep some variety? Or are they saving the variety for expansions (Like Holidays,pets and seasons.)

The game itself is a dynamic world, so unlike the sims 2 it lasts longer without expansions.
