*1: Premise *

      King’s Bounty: The Legend is a long awaited sequel to a very popular
cult classic King’s Bounty (1990).   The game plays very similar in style, 
except for the extremely updated graphics and a bit of RPG elements thrown in 
for fun the game play is similar.  Heroes of Might and Magic is debated to 
being the successor to that franchise, and I'm not going to argue against it,
however this game is more true to the original in that you don't build up 
towns and castles you're simply a hero with his army that does quests and kills
stuff for gold and glory.

This guide will tell you
1. What unit types are available in the game
2. The statistics of those available units
3. The special abilities of those units
4. Descriptions of those special abilities

This guide will NOT tell you
1. Where to get any particular unit
   Reasoning: Many places in the game are randomized to some extent what units
   are available there, you might have a knight available in one game or a bear
   available in the next.  Also places where the units are "fixed" sometimes
   changes as you proceed through various quests, or even who you have as a
   wife.
2. Walk you through the game
   Reasoning: There are many quests in the game, so many that it deserves it's
   own FAQ, not to mention certain choices you make will make certain quests
   unavailable to you.  I'm sure someone down the line with more stamina for 
   this sort of thing will write one involving a walkthrough.
3. Give strategies for "what is better"
   Reasoning:  There is no "better" unit, yeah peasants only do 1-2 damage but
   a stack of 1500 of them will do 1500-3000 damage.  Also if you have a unit
   vulnerable to fire, guess what happens if someone who attack is fire based
   attacks you?  Basically common sense here.
4. Give you a how-to on heroes
   Reasoning: Again this is a FAQ on Unit types for your army not for your hero
5. Stats of summoned creatures
   Reasoning: There really only are two in the game, Book of Evil and Phoenix
   I decided to not add them because there are three levels of each spell and
   each level makes the summoned creature a tad tougher.  So they didn't make
   the cut, sorry if you're looking forward to that, but IMO summoned 
   creatures don't do much in terms of your army since there's only one of 
   them in a stack.

In order to squeeze this faq in 79 characters and still make it look somewhat 
presentable I need to make certain abbreviations. For each Unit type you'll see
something that looks like this.

Definition of terms
Cost: How much it cost to buy one unit of this type
Level: The level of the unit, certain spells/talents have a level range they
       will work on.  Lowest is level 1, highest is level 5
Ldrs: Leadership required for each unit, so if you had a leadership of 600
      you could get 10 Royal Snakes,  10 x 60 = 600.
Damage: How much damage each unit of the stack will make, so 10 Royal Snakes
        will attack for 60-100 before modifications are taken into account.  
        Certain creatures have different types of attacks, physical, poison,
        magic and fire. (Ph. Phys. = Physical, Mag = Magical)
Att: Attack rating of unit, your hero's attack rating is added to this. 
     If attack is higher than defense then more damage will be done.
Def: Defense rating of unit, your hero's defense rating is added to this as 
     well. If your defense is higher than his attack you'll take less damage.
DU: How many defense points you gain by using the "defend" stance in combat
In: Initiative, which order you move in combat, higher = move sooner
Spd: Speed, how many spaces your unit can move in a given turn, attack counts
     as a movement, so the above unit can move 2 spaces, or move 1 space and 
     attack.
HP: How many hit points each unit has, if 100 damage is done to the above stack
    than they will lose 1 unit, with the next unit having 4HP.
Crit: Percentage chance this unit will make a critical hit.
Phys: % resistance to physical damage, 50 means 1/2 damage taken, -50 means 2x
Poison: % Resistance to poison damage
Magic: % Resistance to magic damage
Fire: % Resistance to fire damage

Now there are other types of damage in the game, most notable cold, but those
don't show up on any screen, so simply look to abilities.  Also abilities that
"increases resistance to XX" will already be taken into account, so they don't
stack with the resistances shown.

Having level 5 creatures is nice, however the leadership requirements for them
are often astronomically high compared to a level 4 creature, so weigh your
choices carefully when selecting units.  Do you really want 3 Black Dragons, 
or would you rather have 42 Knights?

Finally, don't neglect morale bonuses, most everything (except Knight) has a
'neutral' morale to start.  Certain things affect this, undead & demons lower
the morale of humanoids (unless you have a certain skill that negates that), 
certain races prefer to be with their own kinds (Elf, Dwarf, Orc) if your army
consists of nothing but them you get a bonus, finally certain wives and
items also influence morale.  For each plus to morale units get 10% att & def
and +25% chance to critical, which can easily make your mediocre army quite 
powerful.  I've only had +2 to morale, so the equation might change at higher
levels

Humans are the defacto "race" in the lands, no morale bonus is given to an army
of all humans.  If Mirabella is your wife "pirates" and "robbers" will have
+100% to attack, if Rina (non-zombie) is your wife they'll have +1 speed
and initiative.

Masters of technology, you'll have "fun" working your way through the maze 
that is their domain.  With these creatures get only them in your army for a 
morale boost, marry Gerda (if you can imagine someone else) for another morale
boost!  However there's not many different types to choose from.

The first race to be put upon this planet, well if you believe the ramblings 
of an orc shaman, you don't get to recruit most of these until extremely late
in the game.  All orcs in your arm does give you a boost to morale, but 
unfortunately there are no orc wives to boost... or would that be a good
thing?

Is there life after death? Well these walking dead would be the ones to know.
Unfortunately no morale bonuses for an undead army, they will however cause 
morale issues inside your army unless you have the hero traits to negate it, 
or your units have the holiness or tolerance ability.  All of these have the 
"undead" ability which gives a protection against poison damage, increased 
attack at night or underground, a morale bonus if in a cemetery, and an 
immunity to mind spells, the downside of all that is you suffer twice as much
damage from holy attacks, luckily only two units in the game have holy attacks
but I believe healing spells cast on undead count as "holy" attacks.

Demons are from another plane of existence, they travel to various realms via
the use of fire gates.  The dwarfs were unfortunate enough to come across one
of these gates, all the gates lead back to the land of Demonia, where you can
acquire all of the demons. No morale bonuses for an all demon army, however 
marry Xeona and you gain a +1 morale bonus. All have the "demon" ability which
gives a resistance to fire damage, and a bonus to defense when fighting on 
volcano areas, but a loss of defense when fighting in frozen areas.

* 5. TALENTS *
**************
These are the innate talents of each unit, for talents that do something
numerical, i.e. damage, heal, summon XXX leadership worth of carebears, the
values do stack, so 100 Imps will toss a fireball that does 100x more than a
single Imp.  Most attacking talents basically do the damage that the creature
is capable of, or very close, in which case I don't mention the actual damage.
Some talents have a charge value, meaning you can use them that many times in 
combat while others have a reload value associated with them, which means 
after so many turns you can use them again e.g. Reload:1 you'll have to wait 1 
full turn before using it again.  Unfortunately I didn't write down ALL of 
them, so you'll have to accept the fact this guide isn't 100% complete, but 
pretty close, but I'm pretty exhausted from writing this as it is, so updates
will have to wait.  Not all talents uses up the turn, there are some which you
can still perform an action, off the top of my head Bloody Pentagram and 
Fighting Trance are two that fit this bill.

*7. CONCLUDING THOUGHTS *

Well this guide is over and done, and I can't be happier about it... about 
being done that is :)  Seriously this took a lot of work to record everything
in a spreadsheet so I could manipulate it, then to re-enter the data into 
notebook, finally to make sure no line is over 79 characters long!  Whew.
If you're thinking of writing a FAQ or Guide, let me advise against it.  It's
a lot of work, and if your guide doesn't get accepted it'll piss you off like
nobody's business! (yeah I've been there before).   Anyways, I'm tired, I 
apologize for typos or grammatical errors, unfortunately I was a bit punchy
after writing for a while so things tend to slip through.

I really don't often check my email, since it is an old email it's probably in
every mass-emailer spam list out there, so questions/comments will probably go
unnoticed (sorry, but I don't need my "regular" email to become spam central).

If you do have questions or comments simply write them in the gamefaq forums
with a title that says ATTN SFSUPHYSICS or something, that way I can use the 
search feature to find anything by title.

Anyways I'm tired with this, the game is a good feel sequel/remake to an old
classic, long awaited, and I'll finally get to play some more.
