"Fun > Challenge. You failed, Braid."
Braid had potential. To be able to control two realms and time- sounds awesome, right? Sadly, Braid falls short.
Nothing exciting here. Kind of lazy considering there's only about 3 enemies you'll encounter. Your character sports a tie and an old-fashioned haircut, which I suppose looks okay considering it takes place in the mid-1900s. Levels are quite bland, really. The game does open up with an intense sunset and Tim's (your character) silhouette, which is then brought to life as you move towards the level select area. This was really cool, I must admit. But it's all downhill from there.
Braid's controls are relatively simple. That is, until your second realm is brought into the picture. To send your shadow to a place, you must do something and then undo it. Sound confusing? It really is. Just a big headache waiting to happen. Braid really doesn't do much in terms of explaining things.
The time manipulating and the other realm and the ridiculous sound effects that are your jumps and key collecting ruin the one (I'm not exactly sure, it was always being rewound) song. It's a skipping CD really. What a pain.
The earlier levels were kind of fun. Sadly, later levels only go for challenge. It's all a chore to play once you've made it to World 4 and beyond. You will be bouncing Goombas off your head so you can send your shadow to do it in your place, then you continue to do so until it is an an appropriate height to bounce off of to reach your goal. While the concept is unique, doing it wrong will cause you to have to murder the Goomba, go back, get another, and try again. This is just a waste of time.
The story is basically a spin on Mario (after all, the only real enemy is called a Goomba), only told through several books in front of the levels. Oh yeah, and World 1 is the last world you play! Try getting it in order for once. The only reason it scores a 3 is because it's not forced upon the player. Supposedly, the story is incredibly deep, with theories spawning from lifeless players who clearly never heard of Kingdom Hearts or Lost.
Braid is garbage. Pure garbage. While cheap, the creators should be paying the players just as an apology for making it. Do not get this game.
