Everytime i start up the game from steam, the game starts and then goes black and a small box pops up saying "input not supported". i can hear the game running in the background but the screen stays blank with the box floating around saying that. i have dual radeon 4800s with both drivers up to date and i already tried the game with crossfire off and no luck. any help or suggestions?

One thing you can try is this: go into Steam, click My Games, right click Left 4 Dead 2, click on Properties, click "Set Launch Options", and type this:

-startwindowed

Make sure that there's a space in front of that command. Now start the game, change the game's resolution in the video options, and hope it fixes the problem.

Hope that helps.

If you can't lower the resolution settings that way, go into your configuration files in the steam folder for l4d2 and open it with wordpad and manually type in a new lower resolution. Ex: 1024x768

Just had this problem for Aliens vs. Predator, read where someone else had this with Velvet Assassin. Lowering my system resolution from 1920x1080 (a res that the game, my monitor and video card all supposedly support) down to 1280x768 seemed to provide a workaround.
