What benefits do i get when importing a character ?

What are the benefits when importing a character from origins , do i get the old spells or items or just to make changes to the storyline ?

You don't get to use the imported character. All it does is change dialog in the game. People make references to the events in Origins, such as who is king/queen and such. Thats all it changes in DAII.

You don't import the actual character, all it does is reflect your worlds based on your actions in Origins

Although both of the previous answers are true, it does a lot more than what Trapper would suggest. You don't import the character, you import the events of the first game. So depending on what you did in the first game, you will get different quests in the second one. An example I gave for the question as to whether or not importing effects anything, is if you side with the Werewolves in the DA:O, you get a quest to help them in Act 1 of the Dragon Age 2

.....finished the game in Awakenings without weeding out all conpirators, an officer will appear in DA2 hiring mercs to eliminate assassins targeting the warden-commander(as if they`ll win against him i.e. meaning me)
