# 1.0.0 - The Introduction #
###############################################################################
This is a short introduction to get to familiar with the FAQ and its author to
allow you to use it easier. Make sure that you read the Contact Me section if
you intend to email me, or there is a high likelihood that you won't get a
reply.

# 1.1.0 - About The Author #
###############################################################################
My name is Ketay (well not really) and I'm currently 17 years old (as of
November 2005). I'll be a senior in high school this year and... Yeah that's
about it. I'm writing this FAQ because I think that this game is very deserving
of all the FAQs it can get. The game isn't that complicated in its nature,
being a racing game and all, but its nice to have something to fall back on if
you're striving for the perfect three star score on every track but just can't
quite reach it. So hopefully you'll find this FAQ useful, and remember that if
you ever need to contact me, feel free to read the section below!
###############################################################################
# 1.0.0 - The Introduction #
# 1.2.0 - About The FAQ #
###############################################################################
The organization of this FAQ is hopefully straightforward. However there are a
few things that could be confusing. For example, there may be some repeated
information in a couple of sections, such as hidden character information in
both the characters section and the secrets section. This is intended, and
helps those people who come here looking for specific information to be able to
find it in all the obvious places (and it saves me many emails saying I'm
missing XXX from the YYY section).
As time goes by the guide will be updated with more and more information on how
to get lower times on tracks, and how to beat missions faster, as I find the
methods out, and as they are sent to me via email. So if you find anything that
I'm missing or have a tip to submit, feel free to read the Contact Me section
and send me an email (okay, I kind of hope since this is like the millionth
time that I've referred you to the Contact Me section that you'll actually read
it and not just email me out of the blue with a random mail that I'll have to
delete).

###############################################################################
Before you even begin to think about contacting me, READ THE CORRECT SECTIONS
ALONG WITH THE FAQ AT THE END. That means that if you're looking for help on
Quest 5 of Act II then look at that section in the journal and see if that
helps you. You can also look through the walkthrough around that point and see
if it helps. And DEFINITELY go to near the end of the guide and read the
"Frequently Asked Questions". That's what it's there for. Questions I get too
often will get placed there, and then I'll stop answering emails that ask me.
Also, if you're going to email me, please try to make it readable and specific.
Something like "How do I defeat the boss in the first level of missions, he
won't fall off!" is a LOT more specific and readable than "help me with the
boss PLZ!" Even if it doesn't contain every single possible detail about it,
the more specific you are the better.
And finally be sure to place your name in your email. And if you want me to
email you back at a different email than what you are using, place a reply
address also (although emailing me from where you want a reply is easier since
then I can just hit reply *wink wink hint hint*).
So now... What you've all been waiting for... (Okay probably not but hopefully
you read everything before this in this section)...

(Sorry, I had the wrong email in earlier versions of the guide.)
And if you don't know anything about computers... Be sure to replace the [~AT~]
with a @ and the [~DOT~] with a period to make it like a normal email. Gotta be
safe and try to block out my email from being picked up by spam bots (not like
I don't get enough email spam that it starts pouring out my moniter on its own).

###############################################################################
Mario is a racing game for the Nintendo DS. However, rather than being the
typical racing game filled with cars, car parts, and boring old races through
the city, Mario Kart lets you take the role of a famous mario characters (or in
a few special cases such as Donkey Kong, the role of another famous company's
character). Then you are put in a race with other characters, all inside of
special karts specially designed for the character. But a huge twist is added
to the races; you are given a variety of items to use at your disposal, whether
it be for speeding you up, turning you invisible, or just whacking the brains
out of your opponent.
Mario Kart DS is the fifth game in the series of Mario Kart. It all began back
in the days of SNES with Super Mario Kart, which immediately hooked gamers.
It's unique racing gameplay was one of a kind at a time, although now there are
hundreds of games very similar. This game introduced all the familiar game
modes that have survived throughout the years: Grand Prix, Time Trial, and
Battle. Then Mario Kart 64 was released, which was a huge jump from the small
MODE 7 tracks with 2d character sprites, to beautiful 3d levels and detailed
rendered character sprites. This was then followed by Mario Kart Super Circuit
for GBA, and Mario Kart: Double Dash! for Nintendo Gamecube. Each game has
introduced a new set of levels, but for the most part kepts the same cast of
characters.
However, in the newest addition not only do we get the expected set of 16 new
levels, but they have also chosen 16 of the most popular tracks from previous
games and put them, giving us a total of 32 tracks to traverse with glory (too
much poetry in Creative Writing class...). Also, in addition to the new tracks,
we get new hidden characters to unlock, 8 player wireless gameplay, two
different battle modes, and the ability to play online against anyone in the
world in a 4 vs 4 free for all.
So in comparison to the last 4 games, this appears to be the most action packed
Mario Kart game so far, so if you don't have the game yet, be sure to go out
and grab it as soon as possible.

# 2.3.0 - Basics #
###############################################################################
Mario Kart is a pretty basic game at heart, but it has a few things that make
it more than the average racing game. When you start you are given the option
of Singleplayer, Multiplayer, or Wifi Play. For more information see the
section on Online Wifi Play in the Miscellaneous section. In Singleplayer you
are given all the game modes to play, and choosing any of them will give you
more options for that specific mode. For information on the modes see section
3.x.x of the guide.
The Multiplayer though has two different ways of playing. The first way, Normal
Mode, allows you to play using all the tracks and characters in one of three
different modes (VS, Balloon Battle, Shine Runners), and using all unlocked
characters. For this method all players must have a copy of the game. To do
this, choose one person to be the leader. That person should go into the
Multiplayer, click "Create Group", and choose Normal. Then all other players
should go into Multiplayer and choose that character's name on the list. As
each player joins the group their name will be added to the list. Once all
players have joined, the leader should click cut off to start thegame.
The second method requires only one player to have a copy of the game. For this
method, the leader should go and create a group and choose Simple mode. All
players who DO have a game card should go into Multiplayer and choose the
leader's name on the list. All players who do not have a game card should turn
off their DS and turn it back on. In the menu choose DS Download Play andthen
choose Mario Kart DS on the list and the game will be downloaded to their DS
and they will automatically be entered into the game.
Note that players without a Mario Kart DS card will not be able to choose any
character other than Shy Guy.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@ Characters You Begin With @
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
[ Name ]: Mario
[ Weight Class ]: Medium
[ Game Description ]: Mario is familiar to racers oneand all. With a balance of
all abilities, he is a racer suited to all suituations.
[ Other Description ]: Mario is a character who has been in games even before
the first Nintendo console was released. He made his debut back in 1981 in an
arcade game titled "Donkey Kong". However, each new console system released by
Nintendo has debuted with a Mario game, and other games featuring Mario have
been released along the way, including Mario Kart, Mario Golf, and Mario
Tennis. Recently, Mario has extended his gaming career to include other sports,
such as soccer, baseball, and even dancing (with the release of Dance Dance
Revolution: Mario Mix).
[ Name ]: Luigi
[ Weight Class ]: Medium
[ Game Description ]: Mario's younger brother Luigi is ready to race. His
superb traction makes it harder for him to spin out.
[ Other Description ]: Luigi has always been a back character to Mario, rather
than his sidekick. He has been left out of many games completely, and it wasn't
until Luigi's Mansion was released for the Gamecube that he actually got his
spotlight (or flashlight for that matter). Luigi typically has abnormally good
jumping abilities, and looks like a green mario with more height and less
stomach.
[ Name ]: Peach
[ Weight Class ]: Light
[ Game Description ]: A generally genteel princess, the heart of a competitor
burns deep within her. She is adept at drifting.
[ Other Description ]: Peach is the heart of Mario's travels, as she is
constantly being snatched up by Bowser, keeping Mario from getting a good
nights rest.
[ Name ]: Yoshi
[ Weight Class ]: Light
[ Game Description ]: While Yoshi is usually ridden by Mario, this time he's
ready to race. Yoshi's traction is excellent.
[ Other Description ]: Yoshi is a character who has changed drastically over
the years. For the first part of his career he acted as a mount for mario, but
as of recently, he's been his own character as none of the latest mario games
have given you the option of using Yoshi as a steed (unfortunately... I
particularly liked the yellow one from Super Mario Word).
[ Name ]: Toad
[ Weight Class ]: Light
[ Game Description ]: Toad uses his tiny stature to his advantage as he
skillfully weaves in and out of traffic on the track.
[ Other Description ]: Toad has always been a character that never gets what he
deserved. In all the games he acts as someone who provides you with
information, much like a slave. But in Mario Kart he gets his chance to blow
away all the other racers with his light weight and great agility.
[ Name ]: Donkey Kong
[ Weight Class ]: Heavy
[ Game Description ]: DK overwhelmed opponents with his jungle instincts. He
drifts through corners like a mad-man...or a mad-ape!
[ Other Description ]: Donkey Kong, although being a star in all the Mario Kart
games, is actually known most for his role in the Donkey Kong series produced
by Rare, and not by Nintendo. However, his first appearance was in the same
game as Mario made his first appearance, Donkey Kong for arcade. Over the past
few systems, Donkey Kong has starred in many games involving him collecting
bananas, and is one of the larger characters in the game.
[ Name ]: Bowser
[ Weight Class ]: Heavy
[ Game Description ]: Mario's arch-enemy is superb at using his drifting skills
to race through curves.
[ Other Description ]: Bowser spends most of his time stealing Princess Peach
from Mario, causing mario to go on one wild goose chase after another. For the
most part he only stars as the boss in mario adventure games, but he has had
roles in other games such as Super Smash Bros. Melee, wreaking havoc with his
spikey shelled fury.
[ Name ]: Wario
[ Weight Class ]: Heavy
[ Game Description ]: As his name implied, he's the anti-hero to Mario's
heroism. Other than acceleration, he has no fail.
[ Other Description ]: Wario was a character created to be the "evil" side of
mario, to be very similar, but with everything inverted. He has had his own
adventure games, and has gained popularity just like mario, which has caused
his character to branch out into other forms of games also. He is a pair with
Waluigi, who is the "Anti Luigi".
[ Name ]: Shy Guy
[ Weight Class ]: Light
[ Game Description ]: Shy Guy stares out from behind his mask, his gaze
revealing the hidden weaknesses of his opponents. Shy Guy appears only in DS
Download Ply matches.
[ Other Description ]: Shy Guy is a small character in the Mario world, and was
only chosen to force players without the game to play as him. He is an enemy to
mario in most games, but is always defined as simply another monster in another
world, never posing much threat.

# 3.0.0 - Game Information #
# 3.1.0 - Data #
# 3.1.2 - Items #
###############################################################################
Mario Kart DS allows for a variety of items to be picked up and used at the
player's disposal in both races and battle mode. Each item has a unique
ability, and they all help you gain the upper hand. Note though that the
further back you are in a race, the more likely you are to get better items,
such as lightning bolts. This allows the people who fall behind to have a
chance to catch up (but can be annoying when you're ahead the entire race and
you only lose because your friend got 4 lightnings in a row).
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Banana ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Bananas are the basis of simple road obstacles. The most obvious way to use
these are to just tap X and drop it behind you, hoping that an enemy will hit
it, but in reality there are much more useful ways. With the addition of the
map on the bottom screen, you can use the local map to line yourself up so your
opponents are directly behind you, and then drop the banana. You can also line
yourself up behind an enemy, and then hold up and press X to throw it in front
of you, hopefully landing straight in front of them. This is especially useful
for a last ditch effort when you need to pass that person in first.
Also, although not as useful as the Fake Item Box, you can lay one of these
right under a real item box, or right past it, so that your opponents can't see
it and they hit it as they grab an item. But I personally find that the most
useful way to use these are to lay them on a very small path, so they are
almost unavoidable, such as a bridge or the beginning of one of those small
jumps before a mud puddle. This causes your opponent to either hit the banana,
or slow down drastically by going through bad terrain.
Finally, these items can be a great help for saving your butt from a shell. If
you hear or see a red shell coming behind you, just hold it out and drag it
behind you so that it hits the banana and not you. This becomes invaluable in
battle as you can keep your backside safe, and still grab another item in the
process.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Triple Bananas ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Triple Banananas are just like the normal Bananas, except that when you use it,
you will automatically drag 3 bananas behind you. You can keep them there for
protection, or you can lay them out one at a time. A useful way to do this is
to drag diagonally and lay them so that it covers the entire pathway,
preventing your opponent from getting through. As with normal bananas, these
will cause your opponent's kart to flip over.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Green Shell ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Most people label Green Shells as useless compared to other items, but with a
bit of aim they become just as good as red shells. These double as backside
protection as you drag them along, or you can shoot them in a straight line in
front of you. Unlike in the previous games though, these will not bounce
forever, and after a few hits to a wall it will crack and disappear.
A useful way to get the most out of these is to take an opponent head on in
battle and drive straight towards them, as if you were playing chicken, and
then shoot it at the last second. Just be sure to check your bottom screen to
make sure they don't have their own shells, or worse, a star.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Red Shell ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Red Shell is probably the most useful of items in battle, and is almost
equally as useful in races. As with the Green Shells, these double as
protection, but when you shoot them, they will home down the person in front of
you. This lets you get an easy lead over other players without having to worry
about aiming. However, in battle mode you have to be careful, because if it
doesn't pass near a player, it will continue straight until it hits an obstacle
or falls off.
The main thing you have to worry about with these is you need to shoot them
into open air. If you aim them too close to a wall, they will hit it and
disappear, because the homing doesn't immediately kick it.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Triple Green Shells ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Triple Green Shells serve the same purpose as normal green shells, except
they also act as an almost inpenetrable barrier, blocking outside attacks from
reaching you. Hitting X once will make 3 of them rotate around you, and each
successive press of the button will shoot one of them away. These work great
for shields because they will block attacks against you from all sides.
Be sure to not get too cocky though, because some attacks will sneak through
your shells and hit you, and things such as a star won't be able to be blocked
by your shells.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Triple Red Shells ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Just like the Triple Green Shells, but each one is homing. This is probably the
most useful item to get when trying to take out enemies in Battle mode.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Spiny Shell ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
This shell flies straight towards the kart in first, regardless of what
position you are in when you shoot it. Once it reaches the first place kart it
will spin and shoot down into the kart, causes a large blue explosion. Any
karts within the blast radius will also be knocked out, so don't take the
person in first getting blown up as a chance to ram into them, as this is
harmful to anyone stupid enough to get near it.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Fake Item Box ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Once again, this items work as a shield for behind you, but it also acts as an
improved banana. Instead of being instantly recognizable as an obstacle, it
takes the form of an Item Box without the question mark, fooling people who
aren't too careful. If you lay it out in the middle of nowhere, it will be
pretty obvious that it's not real, but if you lay it carefully within, or on, a
group of other item boxes, people will be more likely to mistake it for a real
one.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Bob-omb ] - Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
This item is a mixture of a Banana and a Spiny Shell. When you throw it, if it
collides with another player, it will instantly explode, creating a large blast
radius hitting anyone near it. However, if it doesn't hit anyone, it will stay
for a pause, and then blow up on its own. Because of this, you have to be
careful not to be close to it, because even if you don't touch it, the blast
radius can still hit you.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Mushroom ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Mushroom is the basic speedup found in all mario kart games. Using it will
cause you to have a temporary boost of speed, allowing you to catch up with the
karts ahead of you easier. However, the boost isn't too big, and there are a
few tips to using it so you get the most out of it.
The best place to use it is to cross bad terrain. For example, if you could cut
a corner, but would be forced to go over mud or grass which would slow you
down, cut the corner and boost over the grass. It lets you quickly sneak around
opponents without giving them a chance to run you off.
Also, be sure to use it wisely around speed boosts. Don't use it directly
before or after a speed boost, as it'll be wasted. Make sure to give it ample
times to burn out, so you get the most out of it.
And finally, if theres a box of items coming up, use it right before you hit an
item box, so that you can still get the help of the boost, but also can nab an
item when you're there.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Triple Mushroom ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Triple Mushroom serves the same purpose as the normal mushroom, but you get
three of them. The biggest mistake people make with these are to immediately
use all three at once, which is a bad thing to do because the effects don't
stack. If possible, use them all spaced out so that each one gets a chance to
burn out so that you average velocity over the useage of the three stays higher
in regards to a larger time period.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Golden Mushroom ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Golden Mushroom once again acts as a normal mushroom, but this time you get
an infinite amount of them. That's right, you can boost yourself until the sun
don't shine. Unfortunately, once you use it the first time you have a very
limited time before it runs out. So unless you can speed the game up to an
infinite amount of frames per seconds and press X once every frame, I don't
think you're going to be using it forever (reference to Zeno's Paradoxes...
Kind of). Anyway, be careful in using this because taking turns can be hard at
high speeds, and on a level such as Rainbow Road you may end up flying off
again... And again... And again.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Bullet Bill ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Bullet Bill acts pretty much like a star, in that it speeds you up and makes
you invincible. However, as a bullet you'll travel quickly along the track,
making it easier to run people off the road.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Blooper ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Blooper is a new addition to the weapon arsenal of the game, and it
provides you with a way to impair the other players' vision. When you use it,
it will fly to an opponents screen and cover it with ink. While inked your
upper screen will have large black blobs on it, making it harder to see the
track. For the most part it won't hurt you, but in a fast paced race where ever
second counts, a late turn could be the different between a win and a lose.
One thing about this though, is that the addition of a map on the bottom
screens allows you to ignore the effect and drive using the map. Just be sure
that you hit Y/Touch Screen to make sure you're on the local map if you're on
the global one because the local one allows you to clearly see your
surroundings, while the global one is useless for the most part when you're
inked.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Boo ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Boo is a classic item that has been around since the beginning. It's also one
of the "different" items, in that it doesn't speed you up or give you a way to
harm your opponents. However, it does make you invisible temporarily, which
allows you to sneak up on enemies and smash them with a green shell (especially
useful in battle). Also, when you use it Boo will fly from you to an opponent,
steal their weapon, and then bring it back to you. This comes in handy when
you're in 2nd and someone behind you has a really good item you need, since
being so far in front of the others will cause you to end up with sucky items
most of the time.
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Lightning ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
Lightning is the major game breaker, in that it can completely turn the tide of
the race around. When you use it, all other players will spin out, drop their
items, and shrink. While they are small their carts max speed is significantly
lowered, allowing you to cruise right by them. After using it, players will
begin to unshrink one at a time, beginning with the people further behind, and
moving towards the front, so that the person in 1st stays small the longest.
This is a subtle way to help even out the race, but for the person who used the
lightning, it gives them a HUGE advantage. Better save up on your stars, since
if you're invincible while one of these hits, you'll save your kart, your item,
and your size (which seems to be a big issue among guys these days ;]).
-----------------------------------------------------
[ Star ] - NOT Draggable
-----------------------------------------------------
The Star is the mascot of Mario, and it's what Mario had a whole game based
around. However, unlike in Super Mario 64 where these babies would unlock doors
leading to Bowser, these will temporarily turn you invincible, protecting you
from items and players, and will increase your speed while invincible. Also, if
you hit any players while the Star is in effect they will be knocked over.
However, the best reason to use this is for the shiny effect and the classic
music.
###############################################################################
# 3.0.0 - Game Information #
# 3.1.0 - Data #
# 3.1.3 - Karts #
###############################################################################
Here I will post a list of each of the karts, along with their main driver,
their name, and their statistics.
I have placed the data in large ASCII meters so that you can quickly scroll
through and match them up and see how they compare, something you can't do with
simple numbers on a scale from 1-100. This way you'll be able to find a kart
that has the stats you need.
Also note that as you change characters for the karts you'll also change their
weight, but it won't change anything major.

###############################################################################
Grand Prix is the heart of the single player, or it was before missions were
introduced. Grand Prix pits you up against 7 computer players to race through 3
consecutive trophies in an attempt to gain trophies. Grand Prix starts by
giving you three different engine classes you can choose from: 50cc, 100cc, and
150cc. These corrospond to "easy", "medium", and "hard". In 50cc you'll find it
easy to pass opponents as they seem to go slower than normal. Also, it seems
that sometimes they'll even go out of the way just to hit bananas and fake item
boxes lying in the middle of the road. Sometimes (such as in the case of short
5 lap tracks) you'll find yourself overlapping one, two, or even all of the
enemies.
However, once you get into 100c the enemies start getting more challenging, as
they'll begin to dodge your bananas, and start ramming you off the track. This
starts to be become a problem especially on tracks such as Rainbow Road, where
there are places where the smallest tap can send you off. The best way to
counter this is to sacrifice your lead and break so you don't get rammed off,
or attempt to ram them off first.
And finally, there is 150c. This is where the CPU players seem to speed up to
keep up with you, regardless of having no mushroom, and they seem to be perfect
players. However, as you begin to get down the tricks of racing, such as power
drifting and mushroom cutting you'll find that they are actually beatable, and
you can learn to stop complaining about the computer cheating.
Grand Prix is also the main method you'll use for unlocking different game
secrets. For example, beating all 4 50cc Nutro Cups will gain you Dry Bones as
a racable player, and beating all 4 50cc Retro Cups will get you Daisy.

###############################################################################
Here I will list some tips that should help you get through beating the
computer players. Note that I won't list general tips, and you'll have to have
to refer to 2.4.0 (tips) to get those tips. Here I will list tips that are
specific to beating computer players, as some of their tactics are predictable.
If you have any tips to add, feel free to send them to me!
-----------------------------------------------------
Rainbow Road Breaking
-----------------------------------------------------
When playing the Rainbow Road track, the computers will often attempt to pass
you, but in the process, will ram you off the track. There are a few ways to
get by this. One way is to ram into THEM as they pass you, not giving them a
chance to hit you. You can also hit your breaks as they pass so you fall behind
before they can hit you. This can give you a quick advantage to use a shell to
hit them, or to use a mushroom and ram them off.
More coming soon!

# 3.3.0 - Missions #
###############################################################################
Missions are a great addition to the game, and will normally give you a
challenge to beat, rather than a race. The challenge can be anything from going
through numbered gates, to collecting all the coins, to destroy fish with
stars. Each challenge is timed, and the faster you complete the challenge the
better the grade you will get. The grades are as follow:
*** - Highest
**
*
A
B
C - Lowest
Here I have a walkthrough for each of the missions, but if you have problems
with a specific mission, feel free to contact me and maybe I can explain it
clearer. If you have alternate methods to easily getting a triple star score,
also feel free to send me that, and I'll be sure to add it.

# 3.3.0 - Missions #
# 3.3.1 - Level 1 #
###############################################################################
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-1
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Drive through all 5 numbered gates in order!
Character: Mario
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
This is the first mission, and because of that, they give you one that is easy
to master a triple star score. When you begin, be sure to start out with a
speed boost (hold the A Button RIGHT as the BEEP noise for 2 ends) and then
just drive straight through the first gate. Then continue straight until you
near the second gate, and then slowly turn, collecting the third mushroom from
the left and boosting through. Continue to turn slowly, simply tapping the left
D-Pad quickly, don't turns too quickly or you'll lose speed. Also, don't power
slide, because it takes extra effort and isn't needed. As you near the third
gate, collect the second mushroom from the left, speed through, and continue
your slight turn. Collecting the second mushroom from the left and zoom through
the fourth gate. Finally, just head straight towards the third mushroom from
the left, which will take you through the last gate, earning you a triple star
score.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-2
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Collect all 15 coins!
Character: Peach
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
This level seems to give a lot of people trouble if they havn't mastered
drifting. There's no need to power drift in this, as long as you time
everything correctly. When you begin, speed boost straight through the first
two coins. Then, BEFORE you collect the next two, start drifting, so that you
drift through the two coins, around the corner, and into the 5th coin. STOP
drifting before you collect the 6th coin though, so that as you hit it you are
straightened out from your drift. Then, for the rest of the track, SLOWLY ease
yourself around corner, turning just enough so that you can collect the coins.
If you hold down the D-Pad you'll lose speed, so just tap it so that you slowly
go around corners. If you continue it without losing speed, you should be able
to finish with over 19 seconds left, earning you your second triple star score.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-3
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Destroy all 10 item boxes!
Character: Yoshi
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
This is an especially easy level, as it doesn't require you to drift, power
slide, break, or anything. When you begin, start with a speed boost (although a
*** is easily attainable without one) and go around the track, slowly turning
(tap the D-pad to turn, don't hold it). As you get the mushrooms, use them
immediately, except for the ones in boxes 6 and 7. Once you get those, wait
until you go over the speed bursts and have slowed down. Then use the mushroom
to boost yourself into the next speed boost. Then, for the rest of the way,
continue to use the mushrooms immedately, and turn slowly, and you'll be able
to get another triple star score.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-4
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Get the Star and use it to hit 5 Cheep Cheeps!
Character: Wario
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
This level is annoying because if you try to do them from start to finish
you'll continuously end up missing them, or they'll hope over you. However, a
good way to do this is to take it backwards. Begin with a power boost and the
quickly drive to the end of the level without using your star. Drift to the
right to turn yourself around quickly and line yourself up with the last Cheep
Cheep. Then use your star and slowly (but quickly enough to get all 5 in one
star) make your way down the beach, taking the Cheep Cheeps out one by one
until you get back to the beginning. However, you have to be careful to not let
them hop over you, so try to anticipate where they'll be, and go towards that
point, not the point they're at currently. After completing this you'll be
halfway done with the first level!
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-5
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Drive through all 6 numbered gates in order!
Character: Toad
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
This level takes place on the giant floating DS. When you begin you'll be
facing the first gate you must pass through. Speed boost to start and go
through the gate. Then continue straight on up, but when you near the top, do a
quick drift to the left, sharply turning through the second gate, and ending up
facing the third gate. Continue down through it, and then immediately hop and
drift to the left to turn sharply. Continue straight through the fourth gate,
and then go straight. For the last gate, don't power slide into it, or turn
sharply, or anything complicated. Simply drive through it diagonally, because
it's the last gate it won't matter that you would normally fly off the edge by
doing that. This will net you your 5th triple star rank.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-6
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Drive out of the mansion... backward!
Character: Luigi
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
Another easy level, this one just becomes hard when you don't realize that you
have to press the B Button to drive, and not the A Button, since you are going
backwards. Just hold the D-Pad to turn, as you won't lose speed when you turn
hard while going backwards. When you turn a corner though, be sure to turn
quickly right near the corner (without hitting it of course), and then stay
near the wall for the next corridor. For the third turn, don't turn as quick,
as there is a large white obstacle that you'll hit if you don't go far enough
out. After each turn, line yourself up quickly straight, and don't turn
yourself back and forth, or you'll lose precious time.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-7
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Collect all 20 coins!
Character: Donkey Kong
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
For this level, you'll obtain three mushrooms at the beginning. So start by
speed boosting into the item box, and then using your first mushroom to grab
the first line of coins, and then immediately using your second and third as
the previous one runs out. The beginning is the best part to use them because
you drive straight so there is no need to attempt a turn while boosting. As you
get to the turns, return to your old tacting of slow turning, just tapping the
D-Pad, so that you don't lose speed. All the coins are easy, and you can simply
stay in the middle of the track (no need to go mole hunting) and easily get a
triple star score.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Mission 1-8
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Perform 4 power-slide turbo boosts in 1 lap!
Character: Mario
Required Time: 19:000 Remaining
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
This level is the first of many to test your power sliding skills. The level
itself has 6 corners before the finish line, leaving you with one power slide
per corner and two extra. To powerslide, hop as you turn a corner, and then
beginning to drift. Then hold the opposite direction temperarily, and then
press the way you're turning, hold the opposite direction temperarily, and then
press the way you're turning. (For example, if you're taking a left turn, hold
R and left to drift left, then hold right for a second and hit left, and hold
right for another second and hit left). The first time you do it you'll see
blue sparks, and the second will net you red sparks. Once you have red sparks,
if you let go of R you'll get a boost forward. Many people say just to wiggle
left and right back and forth, but doing that takes more motions back and forth
than if you hold it for a second. Once you get the timing down, you can hold it
for just long enough to allow you to get sparks, but not so long that you waste
time.
So, when you begin the level, start by power boosting, and immediately hopping
into a power slide to the left, and boost out of it. Then continue forward to
the next turn, and do it again. It's simple to do four of them, but to obtain a
3 star score you'll need to do one at each corner, and two at the last corner.
The more you can fit in the more boosts you'll have, and ultimately the less
time you take. The last turn is very important though, so try to do the boosts
quickly, and as soon as you let go of R and start boosting, jump into another
one. Overall you'll want to get at least 7 power boosts in on the level to
obtain a triple star score. However, if you find yourself in trouble and only
being able to get 3 stars, trying cutting off the boost at the first corner and
taking it sharply. If dont correctly, it can lower the time it takes for you to
complete the track.
[ Update ]
It seems that a few people have been having trouble getting a triple star score
with this level no matter how hard they try. So here's a walkthrough of what I
did on each corner to get through.
Behind by power boosting at the beginning, and holding left, just sharp turning
normally. Be sure to drive OVER the red and white line to cut the corner as
close possible, as every single milisecond counts.
Then, drive straight towards the next corner, keeping close to the sand on the
left. When you powerslide, try to slide staying RIGHT next to the inside of the
corner, letting go of your boost at the very end.
Then, on the next corner power boost normally, but try to end your slide so
you'll end up on the right side of the road, since the next turn is in the
opposite direction.
Once again, take a quick right speed boost turn, staying as close to the corner
as you can.
Then on the last turn, slide longer than normal, and do only one power boost,
reaching the goal line with over 19 seconds to spare, earning the hardest ***
in the first level set.
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Boss Stage
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Use Mushrooms to crash into the Big Bully and knock him off the
stage!
Character: Yoshi
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
Without knowledge of how to take the level on quickly you can end up spending
minutes and minutes trying to get him off the edge, only to find that three
mushrooms isn't enough, seeing as he likes to come after you, putting in the
middle of the stage for the most part. However, there are a couple of ways to
take this on and do it in under 10 seconds.
When you begin, power boost foward and smash into him without turning. This
will push him back and reveal the item box that was sitting behind him. Now go
forward again and collect the three mushrooms and ram him once more. Now,
quickly turn to the left to go around him, and then drift to the right in a
large circle until he is on screen again. If done correctly he will have
followed you to the edge and then started to turn around. This will put him
next to the water so that as he comes into view you can go straight at him and
use your first mushroom to push him back, your second mushroom to push him
further, and your third to send him into the water. If you're able to get
around fast enough before he turns, you'll be able to get him out with only two
mushrooms, raising your time.
Regardless though, with such a quick time you'll ensure yourself an easy triple
star score, making your Level 1 score come out to a perfect ***.
-----------------------------------------------------
Tip By Andrew Polk:
On the first boss, if you play chicken with him, and turn off at the last
second, you can snag the box with a slide, and he'll be near the edge. Just
three mushrooms later and you've won.

Mission 2-1
-----------------------------------------------------
Description: Crash into all 10 wooden crates and destroy every one!
Character: Wario
Required Time: ?
Level: ?
-----------------------------------------------------
The goal of this level is to drive through it as fast as you can, but as you do
you have to ram into the 10 wooden boxes. Once you hit them, it'll bring you to
a complete stop, but they will shatter, so that you can continue. As you start,
speed boost into the first one, and then slowly turn around the corner, hitting
the second and third boxes. However, when you see the fourth one on the bridge,
SKIP IT. Drive onto the bridge, passing the first two boxes you see, and
hitting the box at the end. Then, use the R button to hop and turn around
quickly and go into the box on the bridge. Then continue up the bridge and
continue the one at the top that you skipped before. Quickly drift to the right
to get back on track and continue down the road, hitting the three boxes you
come to. Then drift quickly onto the bridge, and then hop and drift once more
to the right through the hole in the fence. Continue straight into the last

complete stop, in some cases you'll barely even slow down. This makes it a lot

simple. When you begin, instead of speed boosting, hold B so you drive
