1. Introduction
--------------------------
I'm NarikirishiDS and this is my first ever guide submitted to
GameFAQs, so I'll try to be as helpful as possible. Jump Superstars is an
appealing game to write about simply because playing it is an enjoyable
experience, whether you're a seasoned manga otaku or are just looking a fun
game to while away the hours. As simple as it is to pick up and enjoy,
though, a degree of strategy is needed to become as good at the game as
possible. This guide is here to provide insight on attacks and strategies
used by this game's representative from the Black Cat series: Eve.
Eve is one of my personal favorite playable characters in this game.
She has high speed, a pretty good variety of moves, and the ability to triple
jump. Though the lack of a 6 or 7 block variation of her makes her lose a bit
of power over some of the other characters in the game, she makes up for it
with relative ease of playability and a few pretty devastating attack moves,
including one pretty messy tag attack with Allen Walker from D. Gray-man.
Also, since Black Cat is one of my favorite manga, it would be natural for me
to favor her over some of the other characters in the game.
However, when using Eve, one should be careful. Her stamina is fairly
low, only 85 HP for her most powerful battle koma. Also, being a Knowledge
type, she is even further susceptible to being easily beaten, as many of the
game's hardest hitters are Power-type characters(which Knowledge-types are
weak to), and many of the most commonly used battle fighters such as Kenshin,
Kazuki and Ichigo are capable of razing anybody using Eve in a matter of a few
hits. If you use her properly, though, she is a great battle character with
enormous potential, and with a bit of practice you may soon find yourself
trumping battles even against the hardest-hitting Power characters with
relative ease. That is, of course, the purpose of this guide: To inform of
the techniques behind Eve, just how to use her, and effectively incorporating
her into your deck.
So, without further ado, let's get started, shall we?
--------------------------
2. A brief history of Eve
--------------------------
Eve is a human bioweapon created using nanotechnology. In the Black
Cat manga, a weapons dealer named Torneo created Eve as both a means of
incredible destruction and a possible means of turning a profit by selling her
to the military. Not long into the series, she is rescued by Train and Sven,
and becomes an ally of them(though she favors Sven much more). Being made out
of nanomachines, she has the ability to morph any part of her body into a
weapon, some of which include hammers, swords and angel wings. Once she joins
the company of Train and Sven(with the occasional addition of a 4th party
member, the thief lady Rinslet Walker), she helps them eke out a living as
sweepers(basically bounty hunters), and becomes an invaluable companion in
their efforts.
--------------------------
3. Unlocking the Eve koma
--------------------------
To unlock any of the Eve koma blocks, you must first collect at least
510 koma(serif koma count towards this goal, too) from playing through J-
Adventure mode. After you reach that number, a message will appear on-screen,
informing you that you can now use the Eve Help koma. While this is a pretty
good block to include in a deck(for its pretty good curative abilities), it is
by no means the only one. Once you have her Help koma, go into J-Adventure
mode and backtrack to Desert Area 1-5. Reclear the stage, and a pathway will
oen to Desert Area 4-1. Each one of Eve's remaining koma can be found in this
stage.
All of the conditions for obtaining Eve pretty much overlap. To get
through this step alot quicker, just play through the stage the first time
using only power characters. Now, complete the following conditions to add
Eve to your roster of playable characters.
1-block(Help) koma: Just collect 510 koma, and Eve will automatically be
added to your inventory
2-block(Support)koma: Complete condition 1 in Desert Battle 4-1. To complete
this condition, simply beat all of the opponents. The easiest way to do this
is fight with a deck using only power characters, like Kenshin, Ichigo,
Kazuki, etc. Not only will this damage your opponents the most(The 3 that you
will be facing are Eve, Robin and Sakura, all Knowledge-types), but it will
also help to fulfill the other stage conditions in a more timely manner
3-block(Support) koma: To get this koma, beat Desert 4-1, having hit the
opponent at least 20 times with an attack of the opposing nature. Since all
of the opponents in this stage are Knowledge-types, just bring a deck with
only Power-type characters and you'll be just fine, as the opponents in this
stage don't put up much of a fight.
4-block(Battle) koma: For this koma, just don't get hit by an attack of the
opposing nature (Sadly, your Tsuna/Reborn and Gintoki decks will have to take
a backseat for this one if you want to complete the objective). If you use
only power characters here, you'll be fine, since Knowledge-types do not
oppose Power-types, nor do the opponents' Power-type supports. Of course, you
could just try to never get hit...
5-block(Battle) koma: Now, all you have to do is win a battle using only
attacks with an opposing nature. Since, as previously stated, all of your
opponents are going to be Knowledge-type, winning using only Power characters
will automatically net you this koma.
Now that you have these serif koma in your posession, go to the deck builder.
Assemble them by placing the Eve help koma in the blank space of the Serif
koma, and the Eve koma set will be available for use by you.
--------------------------
4. Eve is supported by...
--------------------------
Sadly, there are few Black Cat characters to be found in this game,
which somewhat limits the amount of support characters that can aid Eve.
However, Train and Sven can support her with any of their koma, which will
give her a slight vitality boost.
----------------------------
5. Battle moves/koma effects
----------------------------
With 5 different koma to choose from, there are a variety of ways to
incorporate Eve into your battle deck. Each one of her koma does something
different, though, except for her X-button specials, the moveset of her battle
koma(4 and 5 block) is essentially the same.
1-block Eve: The battle character that is currently in play will recover a
moderate of J-soul
Koma Shape: []
2-block Eve: Eve will appear in front of you and use her nanomachine powers
to create a shield. Any attacks that the enemy do to her will be nullified,
and any rushing attacks that hit her will send the attack user flying back on
impact. Very fun, if a bit impractical to use in real combat
Koma Shape: [][]
3-block Eve: Eve appears from the ground and attacks with Trance Mermaid.
Basically, she will rise out of a pool of water that appears in the ground as
a mermaid, attack with her hair, and return to the water from which she came.
Not bad, it's a pretty fast attack that's good for a quick hit, and it causes
a very brief flinch for the opponent(25 damage)
Koma Shape: [][]
[]
4-block Eve:(Note: Eve can perform a triple jump by pressing A after her
double jump)
Attacks:
-Light attacks(with B button)
B: Eve will form a fist with her hair and attack
(3 damage)
Side+B: Same as regular B, but the fist extends a bit farther, though not by
too much
(4 damage)
Up+B: Eve turns her hair into spikes, which will hit an opponent at any angle
(3 damage)
Down+B: Eve's punting move. She forms her hair into a hammer and strikes
downward, knocking the enemy back 1/9 of the way across the battlefield
(8 damage)
Side, Side+B: Eve turns her arm into a sword and does a rushing attack. The
rush will cover roughly 1/7 of the battlefield, but Eve will stop when she
reaches an opponent to attack
(7 damage)
Jump+B: Eve will make a fist out of her hair and strike diagonally downward in
the direction that she is facing
(6 damage)
-Power attacks(with Y button)
Y: Eve turns her hand into a mace and smacks the opponent, flinching the
opponent slightly
(10 damage)
Side+Y: Eve turns her hand into a sword and does a wide swipe. Nothing
special, really
(9 damage)
Up+Y: Angel wings appear and Eve uppercuts the enemy into the sky
(11 damage)
Down+Y: A more powerful punting move. Same as Down+B, but she does a short
step before attacking
(10 damage)
Side, Side+Y: Eve does a very short forward step, turns her arm into a sword
and swings, which will knock the opponent down. Only use this to end an
attack combo.
(10 damage)
Jump+Y: Eve extends her hair fist a nice distance, which will knock the
opponent back
(11 damage)
-Special attacks(with X button)
X: Eve will do a series of punches that knocks the enemy down. keep tapping
the button for additional hits and damage
(11 damage/19 if you keep hitting X)
Up+X: Eve will make angel wings appear and shoot feathers out of them. Low
damage, but GREAT for knocking back the opponent
(1 damage each, total of 12 damage)
Koma Shape:[][]
[][]
5-block Eve: 5-block Eve has the same regular moveset as her 4-block
counterpart, and each move does the same amount of damage. Rather than
copying and pasting the moveset over again, I will just describe her new
special moves...
X: Eve will perform her Nanoslicer technique. Basically, she will float
forward and rapidly attack the enemy with her hair blades. Use when the
opponent is backed up against a wall for the most effective attack(26 damage
total)
Up+X: Eve will perform an extended variation of her Angel Feather shot. Keep
tapping X to inrease the amount of feathers fired in the attack, therefore
increasing the distance that the opponent is pushed back. Using the attack to
its full effect will push the enemy well over halfway across the battlefield.
(2 damage, up to 16 if used to its full effect)
Koma Shape: [][][]
[][]
------------------------------
6. Tag Attack: Wing Cross Shot
------------------------------
Eve's tag attack, the Wing Cross Shot, is with Allen Walker from D. Gray-man.
To use the tag attack, link the Allen and Eve koma in your deck with the
Friendship, Effort and Victory koma(Those 3 koma have to be in an L shape).
In battle, press anywhere on that L shape will activate the attack. Eve will
appear behind Allen and Eve will fuse her angel feathers with Allen's 2nd Anti-
Akuma weapon. they will fire a series of very wide-spread shots, doing very
varied damage. If the opponent is right in front of you during the attack, it
will do around 65 damage, but it will usually do between 35-45 otherwise.
---------------------------------------
7. Strategies(Strengths and Weaknesses)
---------------------------------------
-Most of Eve's moves are short-to-mid-ranged attacks, so make sure that you're
at least proficient in fighting in closed quarters before trying to play her,
as she is not the easiest first character to use. If you feel that perhaps the
opponents are coming at you too fast to counter in a timely fashion, consider
adding the Train Heartnet 2-block koma to your deck. Not only does he dole out
a solid 25 damage, but his activation time is instant and he's almost
impossible to counter every time. IN addition to his nice damage, the enemy
will be inflicted with 'heavy' status upon being hit, which will give you time
to prepare an attack as they trod their way over to you.
-As for close combat, there is not one 'single' move that will be a win-all
move for Eve. Instead, make sure you take advantage of her B, Y, Side+Y combo,
which will do 3 hits totaling 22 damage while knocking back the opponent
slightly. From there, you can either get away, go into another combo, or use
Jump+B to knock the opponent further back, then 2 midair jumps to get
above/away from them.
-Get accustomed to using Eve's Up+B attack. It can stop any incoming enemy
attacks and knock them slightly backwards, and it can even be linked to other
moves. If someone is coming at you from above or the sides, try using Up+B
and then Y, so as to both stop their attack and smack them away from you.
-Eve's stamina is fairly low, so there may be times that you have to get away
quick. Remember that she can triple jump, and employ it often
-As a good means of crowd control, make sure to master 5-block Eve's Up+X
special. It can push the opponent over halfway across the field if used
properly, and is great for the stages with lots of holes in them, or fields
where the sides have already been broken.
-This tactic works best with Eve's 5-block koma. Keeping in mind Eve's
pitiful HP total, I have incorporated a strategy into my battle plan with Eve
to keep her alive for the longest time possible. If you find yourself being
cornered by many opponents, use Eve's feather shot to push the opponents back,
keeping sure to keep pressing X to increase the amount of feathers that are
fired. Now, while you are pressing X, you can use the other hand to press
your healing koma on the lower deck screen. Not only will this push the
opponents away long enough for you to heal yourself, but the opponents will
likely scatter after this(assuming you are fighting more than one) and you can
then try to fight just one at a time.
-In making a deck using Eve, there are a few things to remember. Given her
main drawback is her painfully low HP count, make absolutely sure that a
healing Help koma(like Kyouko, River, Kaoru, etc.) is present in the deck.
Also, having the Train and Sven support koma in the deck is a good idea. Not
only are they pretty good by themselves, but if Eve is supported by both Train
Heartnet and Sven Vollfied, her HP max will go up by about 20. Train's 2-
block is a bit more practical for use in battle, though, and its shape is a
bit more convenient, so think carefully about which one you want to use.
-Another thing to consider about using Eve is the inclusion of Wing Cross Shot
in your deck. There is a fairly small amount of room for creativity in an
Eve/Allen tag deck, but the sheer power offered by Wing Cross Shot is
invaluable.
