#A. Terms#
##########
Tetromino: The pieces that drop from the top.
T piece: The versatile purple one.
O piece: The useless to rotate yellow one.
S piece: The green one.
Z piece: The red one.
L piece: The orange one.
J piece: The dark blue one.
I piece: The light blue one that makes tetrises.
Tetris: 1. The game.
2. A move that gets rid of 4 lines at once.
T-spin: A move that puts a piece in an otherwise impossible space using
rotation. (Named after the easiest piece to do one with?)
B2B: Back to back. A B2B Tetris is when you do 2 tetrises without a single,
double or triple line move in between. I've never done a B2B T-spin, but
they're possible too.
Hold box: Press L/R to swap pieces from what you're dropping to the hold box.
Note: You can't use this twice in a row.
Infinite rotation: To some, it's the worst part of the game, to others, it's
the only thing that got them to level 20 in marathon, and
therefore they love it. Some (like me) are both angry at
it, and thankful for it. It allows you to spin a piece on
the ground (even O pieces if you have a fast thumb) over
and over, and it will never lock in place. Giving you a lot
more time to think. Of course, it is pretty cheap, and most
frown upon it.
#############
#B. Controls#
#############
I don't know why you would come to a FAQ without knowing the controls, but
here they are.
Left/right: Move piece.
Down: Drop pieces faster.
Up: Drop a piece to the very bottom.
L/R: Swap pieces with your hold box.
A: Rotate a piece clockwise, confirm a choice in the game menu.
B: Rotate a piece counter-clockwise, go back a step in the game menu.
X: Use item in wifi.
Y: Nothing?
Start: Pause.
Select: Nothing?
Power: Turn game on and off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4. Game modes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The actual game, this is single player only.
#############
#A. Standard#
#############
You know it, you love it, it's regular Tetris!
No extra controls or anything.
* i. Marathon*
Marathon is completely normal Tetris. Nothing is different except for the hold
box, 6 piece in to the future thing instead of one, and infinite rotation.
To play, simply drop the falling tetrominos in to horizontal lines. The more
lines you clear at a time, the better. You can clear up to 4 at a time (called
a Tetris) using an I piece.
Here is a chart displaying everything (okay, just 4 things) about the levels.
Time = Amount of time it takes for a piece to go from the top, and lock in
place.
My reaction time isn't fast, so the numbers are slightly wrong.
Icon = the character to the right.
Game = the game up the top.
Musc = the game music remix that plays.
INST = Instant. Or near instant.
Time Game Icon Musc
LEVEL 1: 17.8 Mario bros. Mario Mario tetris
LEVEL 2: 14.2 Mario bros. Goomba Mario tetris
LEVEL 3: 10.4 Mario bros. Koopa Mario underground
LEVEL 4: 08.2 Mario bros. 3 Raccoon Mario Mario Tetris 3
LEVEL 5: 06.2 Mario bros. 3 Frog suit Mario Mario tetris 3
LEVEL 6: 04.9 Mario bros. 3 Raccoon suit Mario Mario tetris 3
LEVEL 7: 04.0 Mario bros. Lakitu Mario underground
LEVEL 8: 02.8 Mario bros. Mushroom Mario tetris
LEVEL 9: 02.2 Mario bros. Fire Luigi Mario tetris
LEVEL10: 01.6 Mario bros. Bowser Bowser battle
LEVEL11: 01.3 Zelda 1 Link Zelda tetris
LEVEL12: 01.0 Metroid Samus Aran Metroid charge
LEVEL13: 00.7 Donkey Kong Pauline Tetris DK
LEVEL14: 00.6 Balloon fighter Balloon guy #1 Balloon tetris
LEVEL15: 00.5 Ice climbers P1 winning Tetris climber
LEVEL16: 00.4 Excite bike Your biker Rushed tetris
LEVEL17: 00.4 No idea. Something... Rushed tetris
LEVEL18: 00.3 No idea. Someone... Rushed tetris
LEVEL19: INST Duck hunt The dog Rushed tetris
LEVEL20: INST Tetris Rocket Ancient tetris
If you start at a level other than one, you need to clear (level you started
at) multiplied by 10 lines to progress to the next level, but after that,
it's 10 per level again. The background and music will always be the one of
the level that is your lines + 10 divided by 10.
EG. If you start at level 6 and have 45 lines, you will have level 6's speed,
but only level 5's music and background. And you won't go to level 7 until
you get an extra 15 lines. Once you do get those 15 lines, you only need
another 10 to get to level 8, and only another 10 after that to get to
level 9, and so on.
* ii. Endless*
By beating level 20, not only do you unlock sweet music, but you also unlock
ENDLESS! Now you can play until your thumbs bleed. If you beat level 20 in
endless, the chart above starts over again with on difference: The time is
always INST, no matter what the chart says. So level 33 is Tetris DK with
Pauline while donkey Kong's at the top, but the pieces are instant.
* iii. Line clear*
Three differences between this and standard:
1. If you start at level 20, instead of only getting the Time on the chart
above, you get everything, meaning you can see how cool level 20 is without
playing 20 levels.
2. Your goal is not to clear 200 lines, only 25.
3. You never change level.
It's as simple as that. The highest you can go to is level 20 - height 5.
* iv. VS CPU*
It's you (bottom screen) VS. The CPU! (top screen)
A different icon appears to the right depending on the CPU's difficulty.
Very easy (1): Goomba
Easy (2): Koopa
Slightly easy (3): Spiny
Medium (4): Lakitu
VERY HARD (5): Bowser
And to send garbage (Lines with only one space that appear at the bottom) you
have to do one of these things.
(INCOMPLETE)
Clear 2 lines at once: 1 line of garbage.
Clear 3 lines at once: 2 lines.
Make a tetris: 3 lines.
Make a B2B tetris: 4 lines?
T-spin that clears a line: ?
B2B 1line T-spin: ?
2line T-spin: ?
B2B 2line T-spin: ?
3line T-spin: ?
B2B 3line T-spin: ?
##########
#B. Catch#
##########
It's backwards tetris! Catch the tetrominos by moving your base/core/whatever
around!
In this mode, the X button is detonate.
The goal is to survive to see level 20. If one of these things happen, you
lose.
1. Allowing your base/core/whatever to get bigger than the screen.
2. Losing too much health by destroying tetrominos, hitting metroids, and
letting pieces go to the bottom.
Try not to rotate your core/base/whatever so it hits a tetromino. I always do
that, and it makes you lose health.
Once you make a 4x4 square or larger (no 3x6's or anything, each dimension has
to be larger than 4) you can detonate it, blasting everything left, right,
above and below the square. This is good, because it reduces the size of your
base/core/whatever, it gives you health, and you can blast a metroid with it.
My largest is a 6x7 square, although you can get larger if you know what
you're doing.
If you don't detonate it, then the game will for you after about 10 seconds.
############
#C. Mission#
############
Complete the missions! If you don't do it fast enough, you're penalized, but
if you complete one, you're rewarded!
Penalty for not completing one fast enough:
5 lines of garbage!
Reward for completing a mission:
4 lines taken away!
The missions:
THIS IS NOT IN ORDER; THIS IS JUST A LIST OF THE TYPES OF MISSIONS.
1. Clear X lines at once with a Y!
X being a number between 1 and 4, and Y being a piece name. Pretty easy if you
Keep the piece you need in the hold box.
2. Complete X lines using only Ys!
Not to be confused with 1. X is a number, and Y is a piece name. One of the
harder missions, because a line is only counted if it is made by a Y in this
mission. Try to make it so whenever you get a Y, you can clear 2 or 3 lines
with it. Never use it for one line.
3. Complete X lines!
The easy version of 2. and 4. X is a number (usually 5) and you simply have to
clear that many lines in the time limit.
4. Complete X lines! [Speed up]
See 3. The only difference is you have faster pieces.
5. Complete X lines! [Limited tetrominos]
See 3. The only difference is you only have one or two different types of
tetrominos. Making it pretty easy as all tetrominos fit together in one way or
another with the same type.
6. Clear X lines at once!
X being a number between 1 and 4. One of the easiest missions. Set up a tetris
and be on your way.
7. Clear X lines at once! [Y banned]
X is a number between 1 and 3, Y is a piece type more often than not an I
piece. If the number's 3, you'll have to use a J or L, if the numbers 2 or 3,
then good for you, you can use any piece. Remember to keep the piece you want
to use in the hold box.
8. Clear Y lines, skipping X! [Line hurdle]
X is 1 or 2. And Y is 2 or 3. If it's 2 skip 2, then you need a tetris with
the middle taken out. If it's 2 skip 1 or 3 skip 1, then do a triple/tetris
(using the I piece of course) with the middle/2nd or 3rd bit taken out.
9. Clear a line using NO rotation!
Pretty easy, just think ahead and put pieces in to places that look stupid,
because you only need 1 line, and when you put pieces in to smart places,
it takes a while to finaly get the right piece. So if somthing will make a
line, even only one, do it. The four line you get rid of by completing a
mission should get rid of the stupidly placed stuff anyway.
10. Clear a certain line!
Clear the line marked by the red. Another easy mission.
11. (Rare mission) Get a B2B tetris!
Rare, and very hard on later levels. The example up the top is the best way to
do it. Make a huge 8x9 block and then throw 2 Is down it.
*i. Marathon*
The icon to the right changes every level. Here they are.
Level 1: Link
Level 2: Red thing?
Level 3: Bulldog
Level 4: Blue spider
Level 5: Old man
Level 6: More link.
Level 7: Ghost
Level 8: Lady in a red dress?
Level 9: Even more link.
Level10: Skeleton
Level11: Guy in amour
Level12: Blue thing...
Level13: Some brown and green thing.
Level14: Some blue thing.
Level15: A mummy
Level16: More even more link.
Level17: Rhino
Level18: Dragon
Level19: Huge blue pig thing.
Level20: I've never reached this level.
*ii. Time trial*
Only 3 differences from marathon:
1. Your game stops after 10 missions.
2. You pick a difficulty from 1-5, not a level.
3. You have to be as fast as possible, not because if you aren't, you'll be
penalized, but because you're being timed.
And that's it.

#E. Touch#
##########
A nice relaxing mode making great use of the touch screen. Requires so little
concentration you could play it while watching TV.
*i. Tower*
Move and twist pieces in to place. Get combos for huge points, and cool music!
To get a combo, the easiest way is to make a few lines on top of each other
with 1 bit missing from each line. Then put some upside down Js and Ls, or
even Is above the holes, then fill the top line, and watch the others give you
a small combo. I've gotten an easy 4-combo using this.
The pieces:
Level 1: Rotatable Is, Js, Ls, Os, and Ts.
Level 2: Rotatable Is, Js, Ls, Os, Ts, and rare rotatable Ss, ans Zs,
Level 3: All rotatable pieces.
Level 4: Same as level 1, but no rotation.
Level 5: Same as level 2, but no rotation.
*ii. Puzzle*
In puzzle, there's no rotation, and you must do whatever the goal is using
pre-set pieces. A hybrid of mission, touch and puzzle.
.a. .Solutions.
When I say AFAP, that means as far as possible.
1. Move the O AFAP right, then AFAP left.
2. Move the top O AFAP right.
3. Move the O AFAP right, then the rightmost red piece AFAP left.
4. Move the top S AFAP right, then the Z AFAP left.
5. Move the top J AFAP right.
6. Align all the Ss at the bottom.
7. Move the S AFAP right, the the L AFAP right.
8. Move the S at the very top to the right.
9. Move the J left.
10.Move the I right, then the O, then the I, then the O, then the I, then the
O and then move the I AFAP right.
11.Move the top T right until it and the 2nd one hit the 4th one. Then move
the 4th one left twice, then right AFAP. You should have 2 Ts on the top,
move the right one left AFAP. Now move all the little 1x1 blocks to the
bottom.
12.Move the 2 Os below the top one to the sides. Move the O on the right of
the Is AFAP left, and now push the only O not on the bottom to the bottom.
13.Align 5 Is with the holes, and put the other in the hole to the right.
14.Move the bottom S left AFAP, then the top L left, then the top S right.
15.
16.Move the top I right, then the top L AFAP left then AFAP right.
17.Move both Is down so that one is in the 3rd row, and one's in the 4th. Now
move the 3rd O from the left at the bottom right AFAP. Move one of the top
Os above the hole you made, and make one clear all the Is.
18.Move the S AFAP right, then the J on top left AFAP, then the bottom J AFAP
left.
19.Move the Is so that they are all in the middle of the Ts. Now move the Z
right and the S left.
20.Move the I AFAP right, then the topleft O AFAP right, then the right L AFAP
right.
21.Move the rightmost J left, then move the left I over the hole at the
bottom, then move the other I in to the top hole.
22.Move the T in the bottom right (the one facing left) to the left. Now move
the topleft T (the one facing up) right.
23.Put all the upside down Ls on the bottom, and all the Ls on top of them.
24.
25.
26.Move the bottom right O left one space. Now move the bottom I in the huge
stack left AFAP, now move the O at that was just dropped down a space right
AFAP. Move the top I left AFAP, and now the topleft O right AFAP. Move the
bottomright O right, and then finish the last line with the 2x1 on the top.
27.Carefuly move the whole stack to the left. Now move the top O left AFAP.
Move the Z 3 spaces right, and make one of the Os fill the gap in between
them and the stack. Move the S right one, and watch the combo. (NEW)
28.Move the Os in to a position where there is a 8x4 block of them on the
bottom, and make sure at least 2 of the blocks on top are stacked on top of
eachother. Now move the stack of 2 so it is half-off the edge of the 8x4
block. Then move the top one in the stack of 2 further off the edge, so one
is stopping the other from falling in. Now move the bottom one in to the
hole.
29.
30.
31.
32.Move the bottom T AFAP right.
33.Move the bottom L left, then move the J AFAP right, then move the bottom I
right one square, then move the bottom T AFAP right, then move the other T
AFAP right, then move the L AFAP left, then finish the last line.
34.Move the S right 2 spaces, then move the bottomright I left AFAP, then
slide the stack of 3 Os right, making sure that none fall, when the stack
reaches the top I, put one of the Os on top of it. Now move the stack of 2
back, making sure the top one doesn't fall. Move the top I left twice, and
then the bottomleft I right AFAP.
35.
36.Move the topleft J right one space, then the bottomleft I right AFAP. Now
move the top Z right AFAP, move the bottomleft I back where it was and move
the topright L left. Move the bottom Z left, and now plug the hole in the 2
Is with the top Z.

#F. Push#
#########
My favorite multiplayer mode. It only has one single player mode and that's:
*i. VS. CPU*
You're at the top dropping pieces down, the CPUs at the bottom, floating
pieces up.
The game starts with 2 single blocks, one closer to you, one closer to the
CPU. If you drop a piece somewhere other than the 2 blocks, it will fall in to
the flames at the bottom. Good if you don't want a piece, and there's room to
throw it away. You can't make tetrises unless you or your opponent block off
the last square, meaning vertical Is won't fall in to the flames. Usually the
person who does this is the one that gets tetris'd to their danger line, so
it's frowned upon by the high level CPUs. The danger line is at the top (your
danger line) and the bottom (your opponents danger line). If at any point the
huge block in the middle gets too close to you, you lose. By making moves that
are bigger than single lines, you push your opponent an amount of lines
towards his danger line. A double pushes 1, a triple pushes 2, and a Tetris
pushes it THREE spaces.
Level 1: Really easy, I think it just acts randomly.
Level 2: Very easy, It doesn't seem to know basic strategies.
Level 3: Easy, Even newer players shouldn't have too much trouble beating it.
Level 4: Medium, A good difficulty for most players.
Level 5: REALLY HARD, It plays flawlessly and quickly, most players will have
to use luck of the pieces to beat it.

See 4. A. iv. VS. CPU in standard, although there is a few differences.
1. Infinite spin is frowned upon. If you are an infinite spinner, don't play
with people stronger/faster than you.
2. You're playing with a lot more people, and that means a lot more potential
garbage.
3. (Needs confirmation by someone who does play multiplayer) It has items?
4. People don't play with programming, and do really stupid moves, really
lucky moves, and in some cases, really stupid, yet pretty lucky moves.

#C. Push 2P#

See 4. F. (or VS. CPU in push), although there is a few differences.
1. People play a lot differently from the CPU, doing things like:
a. Absolutely nothing.
b. Dropping things in to the flames continuously until you plug the
hole.
c. Hitting you when they lose.
2. Infinite spin (if you can even do that in push) is frowned upon. And unlike
standard, they can see exactly what you're doing...
3. Expect gloating when you lose.

6. Wifi multiplayer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Playing with others on the internet.
You have a wifi rating, and this starts at 5000. A worse player will only have
4000 or so (like me :( ) but a great player will have 8000, 10000, or maybe
even higher. Beating someone with a higher rank will give you a lot more
rating than beating someone 500 lower than you, and losing to someone with
less than you will really scar your rating.
Before I give my email address, just some pointers to make sure I actually
read your email.
Dos:
Give me info I don't have.
Make the subject name very informative. (eg. Puzzle solutions 160-200)
If you help me, give me your GameFAQs account name and I'll put it in the
thanks to section.
Tell me why my FAQ is horrible if you criticize it. Don't leave me wondering.
When giving me solutions, try to type them as I would, this saves me some
time.
Tell me the SECOND someone uses this on a site other than GameFAQs.
Don'ts:
Give me info I already have in the FAQ.
Result: I will block your email address.
Make the subject name general. (eg. Tetris DS FAQ)
Result: Unless I have few emails, I will delete it without reading it.
Leave some help anonymous.
Result: I'll add anon to my thanks to list instead of your account name.
Criticize my FAQ (or me!) without giving a good reason.
Result: I'll block your email address (obviously enough)
Type solutions in a way I wouldn't.
Result: Nothing bad to you. It just takes me a while to get it in to the same
way I'd type it.
An example of good emails:
Subject: Touch puzzle solution: 41
Email: 41.Move S AFAP right so that the Z is touching the ground... etc.
(This is not the solution or even the start of the solution to 41, I
think)
Subject: Mistakes in puzzles 25-30
Email: You said LR in 26 instead of JD (or somthing like that)
Also, when I tryed 29, it didn't work, I think you accidentaly put the
Subject: Your FAQ sucks, why are you missing so much info.
Email: You don't have enough info in it. You don't even have info on 2P
mission mode! Please change that, or I'll use the other FAQ instead.
Emails I will ingnore/won't read in most cases:
