The World Ends With You
Speedrun Walkthrough Guide [v1.1]
You may skip to any part of the walkthrough by searching for [WxDy], where X is
the week and Y is the day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction and Restrictions
Note that this speedrun walkthrough will not work with the Japanese version of
the game. The European and North American versions are virtually identical.
The World Ends With You is different than many traditional JRPGs in that it is
well-suited for a speedrun. All battles are graded, each game segment (called a
day) is short, and random enemy battles are played only when the player chooses
to do so. This means that many days may be finished with less than ten battles
fought. There are also many optional missions which may be avoided.
The goal of this guide is to complete the game as fast as possible in a single
day, which is about six hours with regular reading speed. For the hardcore
players, it may also be completed with only 4.5 hours on the game timer if all
cutscenes are rushed through and excellent play is maintained. Grinding (facing
hordes of minor enemies) and luck-based events will be kept to a minimum. It
will assume that the player is selecting a new game.
This guide may be used as a first-time walkthrough. However, pulling off the
speedrun may be difficult for new players. You will have to become very good at
dual screen battling very fast, and reading speed must be quick in order to
breeze through the cutscenes. If you want the freedom to customize your
characters, look elsewhere. All equipment is specifically chosen in order to
save the most time.
Instructions are brief and concise because reading walls of text is detrimental
while speedrunning. I have seen speedrun guides of other games which are
hundreds of kilobytes in size, defeating its own mission of quick completion
with needless information and commentary. There will be none of that in this
guide. There will also be no discussion of the story, so this guide is mainly
spoiler-free as well.
As for game mechanics, all of the tricky ones are explained in detail, so
there's no need to worry about getting confused. If you are using the guide for
this purpose, you may stop reading this section right now and move on to the
next section.
For those who are familiar with the game, a few restrictions are in order:
Threads and pins that are available postgame may not be used
WEWY allows you to replay all chapters once the maingame is completed.
However, shops during the replay have their entire inventory available,
as opposed to the maingame where most stores slowly increase their
inventory.
No pins that may only be acquired through mingle/shutdown PP may be used
Pins may evolve to new pins via battle PP, mingle PP, or shutdown PP.
Battle PP is the only form of PP that does not require a game
interruption. By completing the game in a single day, none of those pins
will be available.
Battles will be played at normal difficulty except for missions that
require easy difficulty
This speedrun was originally written for hard difficulty. Unfortunately,
two of the four final bosses in the game are impossible with base stats
due to how the damage formula works. Trust me on this one. If you want to
play on hard anyway, I'll provide some tips that apply only to hard
speedrunners during the late stages of the guide. Many of the week 3
bosses may seem impossible, but aside from noise #87 and #95, they are
all beatable with enough skill. Good luck.
Easy difficulty is cheesy and lame. The game is perfectly beatable on
normal, so why bother with easy? If you do decide to speedrun on easy,
note that Rare Metal may only be obtained on normal difficulty.
Battles will be played at level 1 during the first week to get money, then
will be played at max level for the rest of the game
Speedrunning will result in levels being insanely low. We'll need every
bit of HP that we can get. Players who want a complete level 1 noise
report can do that in the postgame. Besides, this is supposed to be a
speedrun, not a torture run. If you want to try to win at level 1 for the
entire game in one day, then feel free to go ahead and try.
Food must prioritize BRV and HP
Neku starts at a lowly 15 BRV and gains only 1 BRV per level. All SOS
setups (equipment that halves HP in order to boost stats) cannot be
used since they require a minimum of 152 BRV. All high BRV threads are
also out of the question. Not only must you meet the BRV requirement,
but you must also spend enough money to unlock abilities, then buy the
expensive drug that raises BRV, BRAVE+. There will not be enough money
to do that.
Partners will mostly eat food that raises HP, since HP is the only stat
that carries over from the previous week to the next. Hamburgers will be
the primary HP stat booster, while Coffee and House Blend will be the
secondary booster once the byte limit is reached. There are more
effective food items, but they are prohibitively expensive.
Unnecessary pig battles and cutscenes will be skipped
All green pig battles are optional. However, six pigs are fought in the
beginning of the game in order to obtain quick money. Also, some minor
character cutscenes are skipped. If you want to see them, consult
another walkthrough. We're cutting the garbage and adding them to the
heap.
Postgame and 100% completion will not be covered
Many of the postgame missions require much grinding and fall out of the
scope of this speedrun. However, you may use the final speedrun save as
a base for this goal, since none of the unique pins are sold. Consult
other FAQs if you need help for this phase.
The one item that requires unavoidable grinding is Rare Metal. Nine battles are
fought to obtain twelve Rare Metal.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Format
At the beginning of each day, there will be a table of statistics, which shows
the number of forced, optional, and tutorial battles, along with running battle
count, expected level, and par time.
Forced battles are battles which are unavoidable. This includes all event
battles, boss battles, and regular noise battles which must be completed in
order to clear a wall.
Optional battles are not forced upon the player. They are played in order to
save time elsewhere. For example, the pig battles during the first week allow
the player to get a head start on Neku's BRV training.
Tutorial battles are different than forced battles in that you don't gain any
experience from completing them. Event battles that end by themselves are also
lumped into this group. They won't be included in the running count.
Running battle count is the total number of battles which have been played thus
far. It's there for statistic purposes. Week 1 is completed in only 44 battles.
Expected level is the level you should be at the beginning of the day. It's
only a guideline, so don't worry if your level is +1 or -1 of the expected
level. Players on easy speedrunners will have a lower expected level, while
players on hard will have a higher expected level.
Par time is the time it takes to complete the day based on the game timer. It
assumes normal difficulty, all cutscenes rushed, and all steps completed with
no interruptions. Note that the game timer will pause during cinematics, so
days will take a little longer to complete in real time. It is possible to beat
the par time with fantastic play, but the savings will not be more than a few
minutes per week. If you are taking your time and reading the cutscenes, expect
your time to be double or triple that of the par time. To see your current play
time, press L and R at the save screen.
All steps are numbered for your convenience. Feel free to print out the
sections you want and cross out each step as you complete them. Each step is
separated by an major action or a cutscene. In cases where you see the same
step repeated twice, it means that there was a cutscene in between.
Movement and top screen battle actions will be given in compass directions. All
comments that give additional information about the current step are indented
and in parentheses.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D1] Week 1, day 1
Tutorial battles: 6
Forced battles: 0
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 0
Expected level: 1
Par time: 0:05 [0:05 total]
Everything here is forced, so try to rush through as fast as you can.
01. Touch the player pin, then touch it again. This is called dead scanning.
(You don't need to read any of the thought bubbles.)
02. On your first battle, press START, then bounce.
03. Use Pyrokinesis to erase the frog.
04. Use Pyrokinesis again to erase both frogs.
05. E to Scramble Crossing.
06. Attempt N to 104.
07. N to 104.
08. First battle with Shiki. Simply spam W or E with Shiki to have her deal
maximum damage.
(Don't worry about the symbols, and don't forget to have Neku use
Pyrokinesis.)
09. Second battle. Spam W or E with Shiki and have Neku use Pyrokinesis.
(The puck is very important for this speedrun, but don't worry about it for
now.)
10. Erase the grizzly noise.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D2] Week 1, day 2
Tutorial battles: 3
Forced battles: 4
Optional battles: 2
Running battle count: 6
Expected level: 1
Par time: 0:14 [0:19 total]
A ranking and S (star) ranking the battles for this day is very important.
Doing so means that you have a firm grasp on the battle system, and it will
also minimize sync loss (keeping sync high will cause your puck to erode less
quickly). Eventually the S ranks will be less frequent because of
underleveling. Therefore, it's best to be on top now so that your skill can
make up for the lack of stats. If you consistently get C ranks or worse during
this day, this speedrun is likely not for you.
01. Attempt W.
02. Dead scan.
03. Scan and play through the three tutorial battles.
04. W to Bus Terminal.
05. Select all the initial menu options. "Today's mission" will be available.
Select that, then "No more questions!"
06. Phone menu. Set partner to manual.
07. Pin deck: Shockwave, Force Rounds.
(Always drain Force Rounds completely when using it. You don't want it to be
stuck with 1 use when you chain battles later.)
08. Immediately scan. There should be a green pig symbol above the exit. Spam
attacks to erase it by using Force Rounds first, then Shockwave.
(It should be erased in under 10 seconds for the S rank. You'll get a 500 yen
pin that you'll need later, so don't sell it.)
09. Attempt N.
10. Scan. Battle both yellow noise.
(S ranking these battles is difficult, but try for at least an A rank.)
11. Pin deck: Shockwave, Force Rounds, Psychokinesis.
12. NW to Statue of Hachiko.
13. Move up to the statue and dead scan.
14. A green pig symbol is in the NE corner of this area. Erase it in under 10
seconds again for the S rank.
15. Inspect statue, then select "Scout for more info"
16. N to Bus Terminal.
17. Scan near the statue and read "Hachiko" thought bubble.
18. NW to Statue of Hachiko.
19. Inspect statue, then select "Polish Hachiko"
20. Win in under 16 seconds for the S rank by spamming attacks. Shockwave must
hit all the wolves at once for this to happen.
21. Your first boss battle! Spam attacks and get the S rank in under 30
seconds, but you'll have to take little damage.
(Always drain Shockwave and Force Rounds completely when using them, since
you don't want both pins to reboot at the same time. Among your prizes is Ice
Blow.)
Before we begin the next day, it's time to go over psych efficiency.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Psych efficiency and the puck
Read the following carefully because it's not covered in any other FAQ on
GameFAQs. The ATK value of a pin is rather deceiving. This is only the ATK that
gets added to your base ATK:
If Neku has 30 ATK and the pin has 10 ATK, total power is 40 ATK.
If Neku has 10 ATK and the pin has 20 ATK, total power is 30 ATK.
Pin ATK values are only comparable among pins with the same psych, because all
psychs have a hidden stat called efficiency. The more efficient a psych is, the
more damage it will deal per hit. Continuing the previous example:
(30+10)=40 ATK, 50% efficiency: 20 damage per hit.
(10+20)=30 ATK, 100% efficiency: 30 damage per hit.
Even though the ATK of the first example is higher, it will ultimately deal
less damage per hit than the second example.
Low efficiency psychs usually hit multiple enemies and have a faster attack
rate, while high efficiency psychs usually deal one big hit and have a
considerable charge/boot/reboot time. Normally this evens things out, but due
to the puck multiplier bonus, you will always want your puck passing hit to
have high efficiency in order to maximize damage.
Here are your current pins and their efficiency values:
Psychokinesis S (slash): 20-115% (depends on size of obstacle)
Shockwave/Pyrokinesis: 35%
Force Rounds: 25%
Ice Blow: 100% (Piercing Pillar S)
For this speedrun, we will eventually abandon all low efficiency psychs because
puck movement will be maximized. Ice Blow will be used for the remainder of the
game because its psych, Piercing Pillar S, has one of the highest efficiency
ratings in the game. It only has one shot before rebooting, but consider that
one Ice Blow attack with a 2X puck is more powerful than six Shockwave attacks.
Once the puck reaches higher multipliers, spamming attacks will deal less
damage than strategic puck passing.
If you are interested in an in-depth explanation, along with the complete psych
efficiency list, it is available at: http://twewy.wikia.com/wiki/Efficiency
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D3] Week 1, day 3
Tutorial battles: 1
Forced battles: 4
Optional battles: 2
Running battle count: 12
Expected level: 2
Par time: 0:20 [0:39 total]
We'll be doing one optional add-on to the main mission in order to get
ourselves some extra cash. This is a rather lengthy day compared to the
previous two, so make sure you follow all the steps quickly!
01. Pin deck: Shockwave, Force Rounds, Ice Blow (sub-slot).
(To sub-slot a pin, press L or R. Sub-slotted pins activate when L or R is
held down, so Ice Blow will only activate when you want it. Ice Blow is given
this treatment so that it doesn't interfere with Shockwave.)
02. Set level to 1. This will increase your chances of getting 500 yen pins.
03. Attempt SW.
04. S to A-East.
05. Talk to the first man you see. Select "Find him yourself" when it comes up
because it's faster than the other choice.
06. Talk to the S wall reaper, then go through all the menu choices.
07. Try out fusion, but also try timing Neku's Ice Blow and Shiki's panel
finishers so that they use them right when they receive the puck.
(Don't waste Ice Blow when Neku doesn't have the puck or else the pin will be
worse than Force Rounds.)
08. S to Dogenzaka.
09. Walk into the SW corner, into the bushes, then scan. Erase the green pig
symbol in under 10 seconds for the S rank. Sell the 5000 yen pin (in your
mastered pin folder) for your first on-hand cash.
(Again, do not sell the 500 yen pins yet, because you'll need them later!)
10. Go E. Don't bother entering Cosmic Corner. Enter Ramen Don.
11. Buy Shoyu Ramen, Shio Ramen and Tonkotsu Ramen.
12. Food Neku: Tonkotsu Ramen. Food Shiki: Shoyu Ramen.
13. Pin deck: Psychokinesis, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot).
14. Talk to the tech.
15. Scan and erase the yellow noise on the tech.
16. NW to A-East.
17. Talk to either the tech or 777.
(You do not need to talk to 777 again after the cutscene.)
18. Talk to the N wall reaper, then complete his mission. Talk to him again to
clear the wall.
(When you level up, make sure to set level back to 1.)
19. N to Shibukyu Main Store.
20. Talk to Beat and Rhyme.
21. Talk to the businessman and imprint.
22. Pin deck: Force Rounds, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot).
23. Scan where Beat and Rhyme were and erase the green pig noise.
24. You should have two 5000 yen pins. Sell both of them.
25. Enter Shibukyu Main Store/Mus Rattus IV. Buy Brown Baby Tee.
(Don't equip it yet because it will prolong the upcoming boss battle.)
26. Enter Shibukyu Main Store/Sunshine Shibukyu. Buy 5x Hamburger, 9x Vanilla
Soft Serve, and 6x OJ.
27. W to A-East.
28. E to Concert Stage.
29. Go to the NE corner, then scan and read thought bubble.
30. S to A-East.
31. S to Dogenzaka.
32. Go E, and there should be a standing girl between Cosmic Corner and Ramen
Don. Scan and read her "Much better!" thought bubble.
33. NW to A-East.
34. N to Shibukyu Main Store.
35. Talk to the tech and imprint cough drops.
36. W to A-East.
37. S to Dogenzaka.
38. Enter Cosmic Corner.
39. The tech is next to Ramen Don. Talk to him and imprint fuse.
40. Enter Cosmic Corner.
41. NW to A-East.
42. Talk to either the tech or 777.
43. Sell the Lucky Star pin you just received for a whopping 20000 yen.
(The item it trades for cannot be obtained in the maingame, and you can
always obtain another Lucky Star pin later.)
44. E to Concert Stage.
45. Go to the NE corner and talk to the tech.
46. Erase the boss by getting erasing all bats on the top screen, then damaging
it into oblivion while it is paralyzed.
(The boss on the bottom screen is invulnerable until the area is partly lit
up, and will take double damage when the area is fully lit up. Be sure to
take advantage of the puck and make those Ice Blows count! Use a fusion as
soon as you get it because it will erase all bats. If you are fast enough,
you should be able to erase the boss before it gets up and blacks out the
lights again.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D4] Week 1, day 4
Forced battles: 4
Optional battles: 1
Running battle count: 17
Expected level: 3
Par time: 0:12 [0:51 total]
01. Talk to Beat and Rhyme.
02. Walk to the W side of the area and scan. Erase the green pig symbol in
under 10 seconds for the S rank.
03. Enter 104 Building and go through the menu choices.
04. Enter 104 Building/D+B 104 and buy Shiki Fusion Boost and Star Cap.
05. Enter 104 Building/Mus Rattus I and buy Peach Turtleneck and Nylon Waist
Pack.
06. Enter 104 Building/Edoga the Shop and buy Safe Landing.
07. Equip Neku: +Peach Turtleneck. Equip Shiki: +Brown Baby Tee, +Nylon Waist
Pack, +Star Cap.
08. Pin deck: Psychokinesis, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot).
09. Set level to 1.
(This is to guarantee a 1000 yen pin drop.)
10. S to Scramble Crossing.
11. Erase two of the smallest sized red symbols in order to get two 1000 yen
pins.
(Ignore the green pig symbol because that particular one doesn't give you
money.)
12. Talk to E wall reaper.
13. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
14. Pin deck: Force Rounds, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot), Cure Drink.
15. Food Shiki: Hamburger.
16. Attempt E.
17. Talk to E wall reaper. You should have enough 500 yen pins.
18. E to Cadoi City.
19. Talk to Beat and Rhyme.
20. NE to Towa Records.
21. Erase the "smaller" noise.
22. Try to get a fusion up and aim those Ice Blows well in order to erase the
shark boss quickly. The S rank is there if you can erase it in under a minute
without taking much damage. Use Cure Drink and the fusion to heal if necessary.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D5] Week 1, day 5
Forced battles: 10
Optional battles: 1
Running battle count: 28
Expected level: 4
Par time: 0:15 [1:06 total]
When you level up, make sure to adjust back to level 1. You'll need all the
money drops you can get.
01. Go W and talk to the businessman.
(You can move the coin to any location.)
02. Set level to 1.
03. Talk to N wall reaper and complete his mission by chaining two large noise
at once.
04. Pin deck: Murasame, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot), Cure Drink.
(Murasame uses the Vulcan Uppercut psych which has 45% efficiency, so if Ice
Blow is rebooting, try to pass the puck using Murasame over Shockwave. We're
using Shockwave over Masamune because it has more uses and less reboot time.)
05. E to AMX.
06. Go NE and erase the green pig symbol for a Rare Metal, which we'll need
later.
(The yellow noise is an optional battle, so ignore it.)
07. Enter AMX and buy CD Track 1.
08. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
09. N to Spain Hill.
10. Talk to E wall reaper.
11. E to Molco.
12. Sell all 500, 1000, 5000, and 10000 yen pins. You should have 68K-75K yen.
It's time to go on a spending spree!
13. Enter Molco/Tigre Punks and buy 4x Purple Sneaks and 1x Cotton Biker Vest.
This will raise the shopkeeper's FSG to level 3, which will unlock Purple
Sneaks' ability.
14. Enter Molco/D+B Molco and buy Cupid Tee, Knit Casquette, and Stronger Cap.
15. Equip Neku: +Knit Casquette. Equip Shiki: +Purple Sneaks.
16. W to Spain Hill.
17. Chain any 3 red noise.
(If you are injured, wait until Neku has the puck when activating Cure Drink.
You'll notice that the puck passing is significantly faster. This is what is
known as the Slapshot setup, but it will get even better shortly.)
18. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve. Food Shiki: Hamburger.
19. Chain all 3 yellow noise.
20. Talk to the girls and imprint. Select "Sounds like fun" and play it out.
(Again, you can move the coins to any location.)
21. Make sure level is at 1, then scan and erase the lone yellow noise.
22. Spamming attacks against the super grizzly boss is a good way to lose on
level 1. Time your puck passes with Murasame and Ice Blow. The puck will build
to 5X and you'll really see Ice Blow shine. Have Neku keep his distance, and
only attack when a player has the puck. You won't get an S rank due to speed,
but it will be good practice for later.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D6] Week 1, day 6
Forced battles: 7
Optional battles: 8
Running battle count: 43
Expected level: 6
Par time: 0:22 [1:28 total]
The Slapshot setup is completed on this day, which causes puck passing to be
almost instantaneous.
01. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
02. E to Cadoi City.
03. Enter Cadoi City/Mus Rattus III and buy 4x Green Warm-ups, 2x Brown Baby
Tee, 2x Nylon Waist Pack, and 1x Beach Sandals. The shopkeeper will reach FSG
level 3, which will unlock Green Warm-ups' ability.
(The extra threads will come in handy later.)
04. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve.
05. Equip Neku: +Purple Sneaks, +Green Warm-ups. Equip Shiki: -Star Cap, +Green
Warm-ups.
06. Pin deck: Murasame, Shockwave, Sexy D, Ice Blow (sub-slot)
07. W to Shibu Dept. Store.
08. W to Scramble Crossing.
09. Talk to Makoto the businessman.
10. Scan and read the "Three hours?" thought bubble.
11. Scan and erase the yellow noise. Abuse Slapshot to its fullest potential.
(Use Sexy D to pick up an obstacle and strike an enemy, then immediately
deactivate it and have Shiki attack. Remember that Shiki can deal quad damage
with her air finisher against those ravens.)
12. Talk to Makoto and imprint "Totally gnarly!"
13. Talk to N wall reaper. Correct answers are Edoga the Shop, High heels, and
Bubbles.
14. NNE to Center St. Entrance.
15. Talk to Makoto and imprint "Unreal, bro!"
16. Save here.
17. Chain four red noise battles in order to obtain some Rare Metal.
18. Talk to the N wall reaper.
19. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve. Food Shiki: OJ.
20. Set level to 1.
21. Chain another four red noise battles in order to obtain some more Rare
Metal. If there aren't enough noise to chain four at once, leave the area and
come back. You should have at least 12x Rare Metal after this chain. If not,
reload and start over from step 17.
22. Food Shiki: OJ.
23. S to Scramble Crossing.
24. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
25. E to Cadoi City.
26. N to Molco.
27. Enter Molco/Tigre Punks and buy Biker Jacket.
28. Talk to the W wall reaper.
29. W to Spain Hill.
30. Talk to Makoto and imprint "Come get some hot stuff!" twice.
31. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
32. E to AMX.
33. Enter AMX and buy Daruma. It's your first Apport C pin, and it has a meaty
efficiency rating of 80%. It's rather cumbersome for regular noise use, but
it's going to be used for the end-of-week boss.
34. E to Center St. Entrance.
35. S to Scramble Crossing.
36. Talk to Shiki.
37. Go W and talk to Shiki again.
38. Talk to Makoto.
39. Pin deck: Red Skull, Shockwave, Sexy D, Ice Blow (sub-slot).
40. Set level to max.
41. Chain any three red noise.
(You won't have any heals, so if you need HP, use a fusion.)
42. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve. Food Shiki: OJ.
43. N to 104.
44. Chain any three red noise.
(This will be easy because your Sexy D and Ice Blow have double the pin ATK.)
45. S to Scramble Crossing.
46. Talk to Shiki.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W1D7] Week 1, day 7
Forced battles: 5
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 48
Expected level: 9
Par time: 0:11 [1:39 total]
01. Food Shiki: OJ.
02. Pin deck: Sexy D, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot), Cure Drink.
03. W to Statue of Hachiko.
04. Talk to the wall reaper and complete his mission.
05. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve. Food Shiki: OJ.
06. N to Bus Terminal.
07. Attempt S and battle. You'll need to hit the big raven multiple times to
win, which is easier said than done. There will be plenty of large obstacles
for Sexy D. Use a level 2 fusion when the big raven is on the screen for
additional damage.
(One way to cheese out and win quickly is to have Shiki deal her air finisher
when the boss is on the top screen, which requires a small raven to the left
as an initial target. This maneuver is very difficult.)
08. SE to Station Underpass.
09. Pin deck: Sexy D, Daruma, Ice Blow, Cure Drink.
(Ice Blow is no longer on sub-slot because Shockwave is not in the deck.)
10. Go E and face the GM. This is where your high efficiency pins shine. Do not
use any of your psychs when he is having his taste test, including Cure Drink.
Keep Neku to the side of the screen, and use 5X puck Daruma and Ice Blow to
deal over 200 damage per puck rally. If you get in trouble, use Cure Drink when
Neku has the puck. Erasing him in under 90 seconds for the S rank is quite
possible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W2D1] Week 2, day 1
Tutorial battles: 1
Forced battles: 2
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 50
Expected level: 10
Par time: 0:05 [1:44 total]
01. W to Hachiko Statue.
02. Erase the noise with your partner. Start with Ice Blow, then anticipate the
puck pass so that Daruma hits all three crabs right when you get it. Winning in
under 18 seconds for the S rank is tricky, but if you have good timing and
accuracy, it can be done.
03. Scan and read the thought bubble.
04. Equip Joshua: Purple Sneaks, Brown Baby Tee, Nylon Waist Pack, Green
Warm-ups.
05. Food Joshua: Hamburger.
06. E to Scramble Crossing.
07. Talk to the N wall reaper, then play out the tutorial battle. Spam W or E,
just like with Shiki.
08. N to 104.
09. The rhino boss only takes damage from behind. Maneuver Neku so that he'll
always damage the rhino. You should be able to erase it in under 30 seconds for
the S rank.

[W2D2] Week 2, day 2
Forced battles: 3
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 53
Expected level: 10
Par time: 0:13 [1:57 total]
01. Scan and read the thought bubble.
02. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
03. Sell all 500, 1000, 5000, and 10000 yen pins. You should have about 80K-90K
yen after selling all of them.
04. Enter Shibu Dept. Store/Pegaso Atelier and buy Joshua Fusion Boost.
05. Pin deck: Force Rounds, Shockwave, Ice Blow (sub-slot), Cure Drink.
(It's time to retire Sexy D and Daruma.)
06. Talk to the wall reaper and clear his mission.
(Your deck is tailored to take out the pesky ravens quickly if you see them.)
07. Equip Neku: -Peach Turtleneck, +Biker Jacket.
08. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve.
09. SE to Cadoi City.
10. Attempt N to Molco. Attacks without the puck have a 75% damage penalty, so
concentrate on the player with the puck! This may be a difficult battle if you
are not accustomed to dodging, so save up for the level 2 fusion.
(The prize pin is Ichimonji, which is your first Lance Lunge pin. It has 80%
efficiency, just like Daruma.)
11. N to Molco.
12. Pin deck 2: One 1 yen pin. This will be your Tin Pin deck.
13. Attempt to enter Molco.
14. Enter Molco.
15. Lose on purpose to Shooter Dan by moving your 1 yen pin out of the playing
field. It's faster.
16. Lose on purpose to Yammer.
(You'll soon find out that he played with illegal pins.)
17. One of the prize pins is Tin Pin Custom, which is your first Burst Rounds
pin. It instantly becomes your most powerful pin.
(Don't let its low pin ATK fool you: Burst Rounds has the second-highest
psych efficiency in the game at 150%! It's more powerful than Ice Blow, but
it can't be aimed directly up or down. Even with this drawback, it's good
enough to be your primary psych for the remainder of this speedrun.)
18. Pin deck 1: Tin Pin Custom, Ichimonji, Ice Blow, Cure Drink.
(Tin Pin Custom is already mastered, so look in your mastered folder.)
19. S to Cadoi City.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recap
Your deck now consists of three fast one-shot pins with high efficiency:
Tin Pin Custom: 150%
Ichimonji: 80% (deals more damage than Ice Blow because of high pin ATK)
Ice Blow: 100%
Only attack with Neku whenever he has the puck. Building up the puck multiplier
should be easy with your Slapshot threads. Start with Ichimonji because it's
your fastest pin. Once the puck is in play, prioritize Tin Pin Custom unless
speed is required to catch an enemy.

[W2D3] Week 2, day 3
Tutorial battles: 1
Forced battles: 8
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 61
Expected level: 10
Par time: 0:17 [2:14 total]
At the end of this day, you'll have 64 ESPer points instead of 61. This is
because you will have purchased three threads worth over 9999 yen. There are
many steps to follow, so move quickly or else your time will be distant from
the par time.
01. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
02. E to Cadoi City.
03. Talk to the wall reaper and clear his mission. Spam attacks with Joshua
while only attacking with Neku when he has the puck. The battling will almost
seem comical at this point, but it's the only way to deal damage at this low of
a level. You'll get Konohana Sakuya, your first Healing (not Cure Drink) pin.
04. NE to Towa Records.
05. NW to Miyashita Park Underpass.
06. Pin deck: Tin Pin Custom, Ichimonji, Ice Blow, Konohana Sakuya.
07. Set level to 1, then chain two small red noise.
08. Talk to the wall reaper.
09. Set level to max.
10. E to Miyashita Park.
11. E to Cat Street.
12. It's time to power up your Slapshot threads. Enter Jupiter of the Monkey.
Buy 3x Naraka and 1x Masamune. This should get you to FSG level 3 at 20%, which
will then unlock Naraka's ability.
13. Enter WildKat.
14. Enter WildKat again and buy 9x Coffee, 9x House Blend, and 4x
Bouillabaisse.
15. W to Miyashita Park.
16. W to Miyashita Park Underpass.
17. W to Towa Records.
18. Attempt E. Just survive for a short time, since you don't have a chance of
beating him. The battle will automatically end.
19. SE to Cadoi City.
20. Sell all 500, 1000, 5000 and 10000 yen pins. You should now have 60K-70K
yen.
21. Enter Cadoi City/Natural Puppy and buy 2x Pink Stripe, 1x Cutie Beam, and
1x Happy Beam.
22. W to Shibu Dept. Store.
23. W to Scramble Crossing.
24. Talk to the N wall reaper.
25. Equip Neku and Joshua with only the Pink Stripe.
26. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve. Food Joshua: Hamburger.
27. Pin deck 3: Pop Pendulum, Cutie Beam, Happy Beam.
28. Erase one small noise symbol, which should clear the mission.
29. Equip Neku: -Pink Stripe, +Green Warm-ups, +Purple Sneaks, +Naraka, +Biker
Jacket. Equip Joshua: -Pink Stripe, +Green Warm-ups, +Purple Sneaks, +Naraka,
+Brown Baby Tee.
30. Pin deck 1. (No changes)
31. N to 104.
32. NW to Dogenzaka.
33. Enter Shadow Ramen.
34. Scan and erase the yellow noise haunting Ken Doi.
(If there are jellyfish, erase them first because they multiply.)
35. Enter Ramen Don.
36. Enter Shadow Ramen.
37. NW to A-East.
38. Talk to Makoto.
39. Scan and erase the yellow noise.
40. S to Dogenzaka.
41. Talk to Ken Doi and imprint "Simple"
42. Enter Ramen Don.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

04. Talk to the wall reaper.
Set difficulty to normal and level to max.
05. N to AMX.
06. Talk to the wall reaper and complete his mission.
07. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve. Food Joshua: Hamburger.
08. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
09. Talk to 777. Accept or deny.
10. Talk to 777 again.
11. Talk to 777 yet again.
12. N to Spain Hill.
13. Talk to Tenho the wall reaper.
14. E to Molco.
15. Inspect the phone booth.
16. S to Cadoi City.
17. W to Shibu Dept. Store.
18. W to Scramble Crossing.
19. Talk to BJ the reaper.
20. Attempt NNE to Center St. Entrance.
21. NNE to Center St. Entrance.
22. N to AMX.
23. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
24. Talk to 777 and show the 2:02 PM photo, then the 1:55 PM photo. Then select
"None of the above!"
25. NW to Shibu-Q Heads.
26. Just like before, survive for a while by continually dodging.
27. Sell all 10000 yen pins, putting you back at 80K-90K yen.
28. Enter Shibu-Q Heads/2F and buy any non-quest threads until the shopkeeper
reaches FSG level 4. If you want to keep your ESPer points to a minimum, don't
buy Cozy Down because it costs 10K yen. After reaching FSG level 4, Tektite
will be available. Buy one.
29. Enter Shibu-Q Heads/Nishimura Drugs and buy 2x BRAVE+.
30. W to Udagawa Back Streets.
31. Move NW.
32. Talk to Joshua.
33. Scan and read the thought bubble.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W2D5] Week 2, day 5
Tutorial battles: 2
Forced battles: 2
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 68
Expected level: 13
Par time: 0:15 [2:50 total]
All of the actions done at the beginning of the day anticipate the wall
reapers' missions in order to save time. The last two pin slots are obtained on
this day.
01. Pin deck 4: Sexy D, Sexy +, Earthshake.
02. Unequip Neku, then equip: +Knit Casquette, +Cupid Tee. Unequip Joshua, then
equip: +Stronger Cap.
03. Fight one small noise. This should make D+B the #1 brand.
04. Unequip Neku, then equip: +Brown Baby Tee, +Nylon Waist Pack, +Beach
Sandals, +Green Warm-ups. Unequip Joshua, then equip: +Brown Baby Tee, Green
Warm-ups, Purple Sneaks, Naraka.
05. Attempt E to Shibu Dept. Store.
06. Talk to the E wall reaper.
07. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
08. Talk to the E wall reaper.
(You should have the Shio Ramen you bought from week 1, day 3.)
09. E to Cadoi City.
10. Talk to the NE wall reaper. Answers are Ken Doi, Insta-noodles, and 580
yen.
11. NE to Towa Records.
12. Talk to the NW wall reaper.
(Neku should already be covered from head to toe in Mus Rattus threads.)
13. Equip Neku: -Brown Baby Tee, -Nylon Waist Pack, -Beach Sandals, +Naraka,
+Biker Jacket, +Purple Sneaks.
14. Pin deck 2. It should still be the 1 yen deck.
15. NW to Miyashita Park Underpass.
16. Lose on purpose to Tenho. You don't need Tin Pin Thrift from him for this
speedrun.
17. E to Miyashita Park.
18. Pin deck 1.
19. Talk to the wall reaper. Blow into the mic in order to activate the pins.
20. E to Cat Street.
21. Enter WildKat.
22. W to Miyashita Park.
23. W to Miyashita Park Underpass. Like a broken record, just survive.
24. W to Towa Records.
25. SE to Cadoi City.
26. W to Shibu Dept. Store.
27. W to Scramble Crossing.
28. Before we end the day, we're going to get the last two pin slots and
upgrade our Burst Rounds psych. Sell your 5000 and 10000 yen pins to refill
your wallet to at least 12K yen.
29. N to 104.
30. Attempt to enter 104 Building.
31. Enter 104 Building/Edoga the Shop and buy Extra Slot.
32. NE to Shibukyu Main Store.
33. Enter Shibukyu Main Store/Dragon Couture and buy Extra Slot and 2x One
Stone Many Birds.
(One Stone Many Birds is the most powerful non-SDPP, non-MPP pin obtainable
in the maingame. It will deal 600-712 damage with a 5X puck depending on its
level! This is also the last store you will enter in this speedrun.)
34. Pin deck: 2x One Stone Many Birds, Ichimonji, Ice Blow, Konohana Sakuya,
Cure Drink.
35. S to 104.
36. S to Scramble Crossing.
37. W to Statue of Hachiko.
38. N to Bus Terminal.
39. SE to Station Underpass.
40. Attempt E.
41. Attempt W. Just survive once more. It is invulnerable.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W2D6] Week 2, day 6
Forced battles: 3
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 71
Expected level: 14
Par time: 0:06 [2:56 total]
This is a quick day because you'll be a meanie and avoid most of the battles.
01. Attempt NNE to Center St. Entrance.
02. NNE to Center St. Entrance.
(Try out Joshua's levitation.)
03. N to AMX.
04. Ignore the wall reaper.
05. Attempt W.
06. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
07. Choose either option for Sota. The battle is forced.
08. Attempt NW to Shibu-Q Heads.
09. NW to Shibu-Q Heads.
10. Ignore Uzuki and Koki.
11. W to Udagawa Back Streets.
12. Erase the taboo noise by attacking from a distance. One Stone Many Birds
should be your primary weapon here. Try to erase them in under 20 seconds for
the S rank.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W2D7] Week 2, day 7
Forced battles: 7
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 78
Expected level: 14
Par time: 0:10 [3:06 total]
01. Food Neku: Vanilla Soft Serve.
02. Pin deck 2: Tin Pin Custom, Force Rounds, Shockwave, Psychokinesis,
[empty], [empty].
03. N to 104.
04. NW to Dogenzaka.
05. W to Pork City.
06. Talk to the reapers.
07. Talk to the wall reaper and complete his mission. Unbranded pins are still
effective in this area.
08. Food Joshua: Bouillabaisse.
09. N to Pork City 2F.
10. Talk to the reapers.
11. Talk to the wall reaper and complete his mission by erasing two noise, then
Food Neku: BRAVE+, then erase the last noise.
(The yellow frogs are immune to Shockwave, but every other psych will hit
them.)
12. Pin deck 1.
13. Attempt N.
14. N to Pork City 3F. Sho is fairly easy to defeat. Just keep passing the puck
and you'll win in about two minutes. Try not to hit multiple enemies at once.
Keep at least one noise on the screen when Sho is in noise form or else he will
de-noise himself and summon more, prolonging the battle. As for Sho, it's best
to use Ichimonji and Ice Blow against him unless you are sure your OSMB shot
will connect.
(Hard speedrun only: Sho is extremely tough when you are at this low of a
level. On hard, this battle may take over six minutes to complete. Try to get
an OSMB combo going against the taboo noise, since the shot does hit
off-screen targets. Use your level 2 fusion only when you are low on HP, and
use it over your heal pins. Conserve your heals until you really need them
because you will need all of them. If you can't handle this battle, well...
there's always normal.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D1] Week 3, day 1
Tutorial battles: 1
Forced battles: 1
Optional battles: 2
Running battle count: 81
Expected level: 16
Par time: 0:08 [3:14 total]
Ichimonji should evolve to Nikkari during this day if you have been
consistently A ranking and S ranking all battles.
01. W to Statue of Hachiko.
02. Your pins are disabled, so press START and bounce.
03. Erase the noise. Always use Beat's air combo instead of spamming W or E
because his air finisher hits for quad damage.
(The game later states that the ground combo deals more damage, but this is a
lie. Beat's ground panel/finisher has efficiency ratings of 150/300%. Beat's
air panel/finisher is 200/400%)
04. Food Neku: OJ. Food Beat: BRAVE+.
05. Equip Beat: +Knit Casquette, +Peach Turtleneck, +Beach Sandals, +Nylon
Waist Pack.
06. Attempt SE to Station Underpass.
05. SE to Station Underpass.
06. Attempt E.
07. Scan and erase the green pig noise in the SW corner.
(You need the battle to consume the BRAVE+. The pig on the bottom screen is
invisible, but is to your left. Use Ichimonji/Nikkari to flush it out.)
08. W to Bus Terminal.
09. Scan and erase the green pig noise near the Moyai statue.
(Only one of the pigs on the bottom screen is real. Use Ice Blow to hit all
of them at once.)
10. NW to Statue of Hachiko.
11. E to Scramble Crossing.
12. Talk to the N wall reaper.
13. Play out the tutorial battle. Forget about fusions with Beat and just rack
up the air combos.
14. N to 104.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D2] Week 3, day 2
Forced battles: 3 (not including reaper bounties)
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 84
Expected level: 17
Par time: 0:08 [3:22 total]
Random reaper battles are not counted in the running total. The par time
assumes that 0 reaper bounties were encountered. If you want to guarantee 0
reaper bounties, you must save before leaving each area after you encounter the
first reaper bounty in step 3.
01. N to 104.
02. Attempt NW to Dogenzaka.
03. NW to Dogenzaka. Erase the reaper. As always, only focus on the player with
the puck and you'll defeat the reaper easily. Anticipate the puck pass and
charge One Stone Many Birds right before Neku gets the puck.
04. This will be your final food reminder because the number of battles will
vary from now until the end of the game. If sync rate is around 50%, Neku
should drink Coffee and Beat should drink House Blend. If sync rate is very
low, Neku should drink House Blend and Beat should enjoy Bouillabaisse.
05. Equip Beat: -Knit Casquette, -Peach Turtleneck, -Beach Sandals, -Nylon
Waist Pack, +Brown Baby Tee, +Green Warm-ups, +Purple Sneaks, +Naraka.
06. Attempt NW to A-East.
07. NW to A-East.
08. Talk to 777 and battle him.
09. Inspect the ground. For normal difficulty, the strategy you used on the
W1D2 boss remains intact, except that the puck is significantly faster. Once
the boss is paralyzed, pump multiple puck OSMB shots into it. You'll need two
runs to finish it off.
(Hard difficulty only: This boss battle is ridiculously difficult and
requires expert play in order to clear on hard. You must continually feed
Beat the puck even if it means doing 0 damage to the boss because the bottom
is dark. Have Beat always deal damage to one side first, then the other.
Remember to always use the air combo over the ground combo.
As for Neku, try to attack from behind or from a distance. The most
devastating attack you'll have to worry about is the boss throwing out two
oversized Shurikens. In order to dodge these, you must dash through them or
hope that they won't hit Neku at the bottom of the screen. Use
Ichimonji/Nikkari and Ice Blow when it is dark. Once the boss is paralyzed
from the light, pump multiple OSMB shots into it. 5X puck OSMB shots will
deal 405 damage apiece. You'll likely need three runs to drain the boss of
all its HP.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D3] Week 3, day 3
Forced battles: 1 (not including reaper bounties)
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 85
Expected level: 17
Par time: 0:10 [3:32 total]
Meeting the par time on this day largely depends on your performance against
Uzuki.
(Hard difficulty only: You may suddenly lose from reaper bounties if the battle
contains red tadpoles. These tadpoles stick to you and deal massive amounts of
damage per second. If your Ice Blow doesn't take them out, you're dead, so make
sure to save it for them!)
01. Attempt E.
02. Talk to the businessman.
03. NNE to Center St. Entrance.
04. N to AMX.
05. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
06. Go W and talk to Makoto. Select "I can't decide this for him"
07. E to AMX. Uzuki is too fast for OSMB, so you must take her out with Nikkari
and Ice Blow. For this battle, use Beat's ground combo over his air combo
because you need the speed. S ranking this in under 90 seconds mostly depends
on luck, so don't worry about your rank. Depending on how often she teleports,
you may get the S rank... or you may take three minutes to defeat her.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D4] Week 3, day 4
Forced battles: 11
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 96
Expected level: 17
Par time: 0:18 [3:50 total]
Remember to have Neku and Beat refill themselves with java. If you have a low
sync rate, have Neku drink House Blend over Coffee. You'll need a high sync
rate for the bosses at the end of the day.
01. Talk to Beat.
02. Attempt W.
03. Scan and chain the NW and SE noise.
04. Talk to Beat and press the button.
05. Attempt E.
06. E to Miyashita Park.
07. Inspect the ground.
08. Chain all the large noise. There are four of them.
09. Talk to Beat and press the button.
10. Scan and erase the two middle noise. This should be easy because your OSMB
pins will have a trend bonus.
11. W to Miyashita Park Underpass.
12. Scan and erase only the middle noise, the one in front of the graffiti.
13. Talk to Beat and press the button.
14. Attempt W.
15. Talk to Beat.
16. Attempt W.
17. W to Towa Records.
18. Dead scan. Koki loves to hide in the corners, so you can aim OSMB when he's
there. Get out of the way if Koki fires a small yellow shot on the bottom
screen. It explodes with a large radius for massive damage. If he levitates in
order to use this attack, OSMB can still catch him.
19. Uzuki and Koki together are much more formidable. When Beat doesn't have
the puck, spam his block. One of his blocks can block all the purple stars. You
can't rely on the puck for this one due to their flurry of attacks, so be
prepared for a drawn-out slugfest and an ugly rank at the end of it.
(Hard difficulty only: This is the most frustrating battle you'll encounter,
as the two battles that are more difficult are virtually impossible. Koki has
even more agility this time around, and Uzuki can deplete almost all of your
HP with her purple stars combo. She will also inevitably land a blue star on
Beat, causing defense break. You'll struggle to pass the puck on both screens
because of their combination of speed and power. They will also heal once
when their HP is low.
If Neku has the puck but both Nikkari and Ice Blow are reloading, pass the
puck with Konohana Sakuya. It's better to waste a heal than to let the puck
erode, since the puck is your only ticket to victory. If you can beat this on
hard with the current speedrun stats, then congratulations, you are one good
player. If you can't, then I won't blame you if you retry on normal.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D5] Week 3, day 5
Forced battles: 3 (not including reaper bounties)
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 99
Expected level: 20
Par time: 0:07 [3:57 total]
After the previous two battles, your sync rate will likely be very low. Use
House Blends to replenish, but as a last resort, have Beat consume a
Bouillabaisse. It will increase sync rate by 60% because Beat loves them.
01. NNE to Center St. Entrance.
02. N to AMX.
03. W to Tipsy Tose Hall.
04. Talk to the reaper.
05. Scan and read a thought bubble.
06. W to Shibu-Q Heads.
07. Attempt W.
08. This battle is a gang beat in that five additional reapers will replace any
erased reapers. It isn't much of a battle on normal difficulty.
(Hard difficulty only: It's almost as hard as the Uzuki and Koki battle. Try
to aim for one reaper instead of spreading the damage. You'll probably get an
E rank for this, which will send your sync rate plummeting. If that happens,
I recommend that you chain a few red noise battles so that you can refill to
full sync again.)
09. Attempt W.
10. W to Udagawa Back Streets.
11. Move N and inspect the ground. Take a picture of four days ago.
12. Talk to Uzuki and Koki. This battle is actually easier than the last time
you faced them because Koki is slower, plus Beat has Safe Landing. Koki will
retreat to a corner for many of his attacks again, so aim OSMB when he does!
Defeat them in under a minute for the S rank.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D6] Week 3, day 6
Tutorial battles: 1
Forced battles: 0 (not including reaper bounties)
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 99
Expected level: 21
Par time: 0:05 [4:02 total]
This is the only day (besides week 1, day 1) that can be completed without an
actual battle, provided you save before each area and reload if you encounter a
reaper bounty. If you are not interested in attaining the lowest possible
in-game timer, just battle the reaper bounties as they come. Don't forget about
the java.
01. E to Shibu Dept. Store.
02. E to Cadoi City.
03. E to Towa Records.
04. NW to Miyashita Park Underpass.
05. E to Miyashita Park.
06. Attempt E to Cat Street.
07. E to Cat Street.
08. Enter WildKat.
09. W to Miyashita Park.
10. W to Towa Records.
11. SE to Cadoi City.
12. Set level to 1 and difficulty to hard.
13. Inspect the heap. Lose. That's right, lose. You won't get the game over
screen.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[W3D7] Week 3, day 7
Forced battles: 4 (not including reaper bounties)
Optional battles: 0
Running battle count: 103
Expected level: 21
Par time: 0:28 [4:30 total] (includes the ending and credits)
01. Set level to max and difficulty to normal.
02. W to Statue of Hachiko.
03. N to Bus Terminal.
04. SE to Station Underpass.
05. Attempt E.
06. E to Trail of the Sinner.
07. E to Rubicon.
08. Talk to Sho.
09. Compared to Uzuki and Koki, Konishi is pathetically easy. For this battle,
spam W or E with Beat instead of using his air combo. Speed is the key here,
not damage.
Phase 1: Target the non-taboo noise with Neku, while spamming attacks with
Beat. Non-taboo noise that goes into the pit will heal Konishi.
Phase 2: Make sure you maintain full or near-full health during this phase,
since you will lose your heals at the end of it.
Phase 3: Follow the shadow with Neku while spamming attacks with Beat.
Phase 4: At the very beginning of this phase, aim Rhyme to the left of the
screen by touching it. Then spam attacks with Beat. Find Konishi again by
moving in the opposite direction of the shadow, and use Rhyme when the yellow
light reveals itself. As long as you had full health at the end of phase 2,
you'll win.
(You'll get Rhyme, which has an excellent efficiency rating of 120%.)
10. Attempt NE, then choose "Go on anyway"
11. Attempt E.
12. Attempt E.
13. Inspect the heap.
14. Equip Neku: -Green Warm-ups, +Pi-Face's Cap.
15. Pin deck: 2x One Stone Many Birds, Rhyme, Nikkari, Konohana Sakuya, Cure
Drink. Make sure Rhyme is before Nikkari because you want Rhyme to be used
first.
(Nikkari is used over Ice Blow because it will deal more damage even with its
lower efficiency rating. Ice Blow: 1.0[44+27]=71, Nikkari: 0.8[44+66]=88)
16. Attempt E.
17. E to Dead God's Pad.
18. Talk to Megumi. Use Rhyme as your primary weapon by aiming at Megumi's
legs. It's possible to S rank this battle in under three minutes.
(Hard difficulty only: Unfortunately, this is the first boss that is nigh
impossible on hard. He has additional DEF, meaning that a 5X puck OSMB will
deal only 330 damage to him.)
19. Pin deck: 2x One Stone Many Birds, Rhyme, Lightning Rook (sub-slot),
Konohana Sakuya, Cure Drink.
20. Scan and go through the large door.
21. Attempt E.
22. Attempt E.
23. E to Room of Reckoning.
24. Attempt N. Select any choices you want.
25. The red dragon is laughable. Spam E with Shiki, and spam W with Beat. Use
Rhyme to hit the tails. Eventually the dragon's head will come down. Stand to
the side of the dragon's head and pump 5X puck OSMBs and Rhymes into it. You
should S rank this battle in under two minutes. Don't use Lightning Rook unless
you need to snipe a tail.
(Hard difficulty only: It will take an extra minute to defeat, but this boss
isn't too difficult at all.)
26. The psychedelic dragon isn't much more difficult than the red dragon. Move
Neku behind the east head, then aim Lightning Rook NW so that it hits two heads
at once. Fire your OSMBs while Lightning Rook reboots. When an orange bubble
approaches you, dash into it, which will break it.
Keep checking the top screen for a direction arrow, which will first appear
when you see Shiki's level 2 fusion animation. When it appears, hit that
direction in order to amplify the puck. All four Lightning Rook shots per use
will be amplified, so it remains the primary weapon. At 2X and 2.5X, use Cure
Drink as the heal, then Konohana Sakuya at higher puck multipliers. You should
be able to defeat it in under three minutes, but damage will prevent you from
getting the S.
(Hard difficulty only: Unfortunately, the puck only arrives when you deal a
good chunk of damage, which just won't happen before you're forced to expend
all your heals. This is the other boss that is impossible to speedrun on
hard.)

Congratulations on completing The World Ends With You at a fraction of the
intended playtime! Now you can slow down and play through anything you missed,
or perhaps go for 100% completion. None of the Scarletites you obtained were
wasted, so you can start Another Day, head over to Shibu-Q heads, and buy the
Chain 16, Hollow Leg, and Ultimate Difficulty stickers.
At the end of the speedrun, you will have at least 108 ESPer points: 103 forced
and optional battles, 5 purchases worth 10K yen or more (3x Naraka, 2x BRAVE+),
and 1 point for each reaper bounty. Show off that E rank to your friends!
