INTRODUCTION ============================================================================== This is my first guide. I hope it helps you beat the game. Star Prince is the fourth game you are challenged to play. It was made by Tomato, the same company that made Cosmic Gate, and is a spin-off of the Star Soldier series. This game is a shooter were you move in all four directions (an improvement over the two directions of Cosmic Gate) and collect power-ups to defeat the boss at the end of each level. The story of the game, straight from the in-game manual, is the following and is in no way my work: "In the far end of the galaxy, a war between planets has been raging on in the Cecilus Nova. The result of the war was a peace treaty between the warring royal houses. However, House Istaan made a deal with an ancient evil power and violeted the treaty, driving all other royal houses to near extinction. The ancient Sky City, long-protedted by the treaty, was destroyed and the only remaining inhabitant of the city was a young man of House Tirus. He decides to take possession of Valbird, which now only he can activate. The young man heads to space with the fate of the galaxy in his hands." Your job is to make it to Level Four and defeat the boss of the that stage. ============================================================================== 3. CONTROLS ============================================================================== The controls are as following: D-Pad = Moves your ship A/B = Fires your weapon Hold A/B = Activate Barrier Start = Pauses the game Hold Y = Rapid-Fire (see below) After the second challenge Arino brings home the rapid fire controller which allows you rapid fire by pressing and holding Y. ============================================================================== 4. TIPS ============================================================================== Here are some things that will help you beat Star Prince. 1. First off, there are four power-ups that you can get in the game. They come in pyramid things that take about 3 shots to break. Here is a short description of each: Side Booster: The side booster is the best power-up in the game before you get the rapid-fire controller. This power-up gives you two diagonal lasers in addition to the two you already have. Power Booster: This power-up is the best one in the game, BUT ONLY if you have the rapid-fire controller. The power booster allows you to shoot super fast lasers if you hold the Y button. This power is worthless though, if you don't have the turbo controller because you can't shoot fast enough for it to make a difference. Back Booster: The least effective power-up in the game, in my opinion. The back booster gives you two diagonal lasers that come out of the back of your ship. Missle Booster: This power-up adds a purple missle to your shots that blows up and hits the surrounding ground enemies. Note that it doesn't hit the air enemies. 2. Get the yellow panels that spell out PRINCE for a bonus 3. If you get hit three times when using the shield, you use a spark shot, which sends out bullets in every direction. 4. If you shoot the power-ups 12 times, they will blow up and kill all of the enemies on the screen. 5. Never put your ship at the very bottom of the screen because enemies will sometimes come from below. ============================================================================== 5. CHALLENGES ============================================================================== 1. The first challenge of the game is to defeat the mid-boss of the first area which isn't that hard. Since you don't have the rapid fire controller, get get the side booster as your power-up. It's not hard to make it to the mid-boss and once you do, all you have to do is keep your shield up and your spark shots will do the rest. Once all of the enemies are gone, just shoot the main part of the boss and he will eventually blow up. Congratulations, you just beat the first challenge. 2. This challenge isn't that hard all you have to do is find a 1-Up tomato. Right after the first mid-boss, stay to the left side of the screen and keep shooting. Eventually you will hit a secret 1-Up tomato and you will beat the challenge. For a picture of it, go to page five of the July 1986 Gamefan Magazine. After you complete the second challenge, Arino will bring home the rapid fire controller which will make the game a lot easier. From now on if you hold the Y button you will shoot very fast bullets. The power booster is also useful now because you can shoot fast enough for it to help. 3. For this challenge you have to make it to the end of the second area, which is a small challenge. Go through Level 1 like normal and beat the mid-boss. Once you get past the hidden 1-Up from challenge 2, you will face a new enemy called Redanset. He starts out with just an eye put then gets two sides and a blaster. You can keep attacking him but when his sides are about to join, move away from under him because his blaster comes from the bottom of the screen. After you beat him, you will continue on with the rest of the stage. Towards the end of the level, you will see a bunch of enemies who will shoot a lot of bullets at you. You need to put up your shield here and you will be safe. After you beat all of them, the boss will show up. He has two small side lasers that can be blocked by your shield and one main one that shoots out purple oval shaped things that will block your bullets and can't be stopped by your shield. Be sure to watch the circle around the main laser because once the purple circle is full, he will shoot out a massive laser that will kill instantly if it hits you. Once you beat him, you'll see the stage completion screen and you will get the bonus points for the PRINCE panels you got. The next level is pretty much the same as the last one. The mid-boss now shoots out green disks that will take down your shield for a second. You don't fight Redanset in this level but once you get to the end, put up you shield to block all of the bullets. The boss is the same as last time except that he will shoot out the purple orbs quicker this time. Once he is dead, you have beaten the third challenge. 4. The fourth challenge can be hard if you don't use the PRINCE panels or bonuses. All you have to do is get points to beat this challenge. See sections seven and eight for help. If you happen to get a gameover during this challenge, you should reset the game because your score goes back to zero. Once you have beaten all of the challenges for each game, Game Master Arino will give you the last challenge for all of the games, which is to finish all of the games. 5. This challenge can be hard if you don't use the continue cheat because towards the end things can get tricky. Beat the first two level like you did the last time. At the very beginning of Level 3, you will fight Redanset again. He is the same as last time so he shouln't be hard. Just beat the levels the same as the last two. Before the boss of Level 4, there should be two power-up pyramids. Get the side booster from the right one, it will help a lot with the last boss. Looks like the boss got an upgrade. Now he has two big lasers and four little ones. I suggest taking out the little ones first because they can get annoying. After all four are gone, go to either the far left side or far right side. You then want to allign yourself so that one of your diagonal lasers is hitting the big laser. You will have to reposition yourself when he shoots out the yellow orbs. After you deafet one, move onto the other. Once both are defeated, the main laser will appear. Just repeat the above method and he will go down. You will then see a green ship fly off after the boss disappears. Congratualions you have just beaten...the first half. That's right, all of the enemies were imitations. You then have to beat it all over again. The enemies will be a little stronger now and Redanset will shoot more bullets at a time. Just go through it again and make your way to the final boss. Once you beat him again, the green ship will reappear. This time though, he will stay there and you shoot at him to destroy him. Then you get to do it a third time...just kidding. After you blow the green ship up, you will watch your ship fly into space. Congratulations, you have just beaten Star Prince. ============================================================================== 6. CHEATS ============================================================================== There are two cheats for this game which are as following: Continue After Gameover Hold Left and press Start at the Gameover screen Invincibility Hold Up and press AAA and then hold Down and press BBB at the title screen ============================================================================== 7. PRINCE PANEL LOCATIONS ============================================================================== 1st Time Through Level 1 P - Right at the beginnig of the space craft, to the left and in front of the power-up pyramid R - After a small bridge between the two sides, on the right side next to the red cylinder I - A little after the R there will be three pathways. The I is on the middle one to the right of the red circle. N - Directly oppisite of the 1-Up tomato from the 2nd challenge C - Right after Redanset but before the two power pyramids. It is to the left part of the middle of the ship. E - To the opposite side of the last power pyramid. Level 2 P - On the left side of the ground in the sqaure box towards the beginning of the level R - In the middle of the stage next to the big platform right before a gap I - During the mid-boss on the right side N - After the mid-boss right before the big wall, in between two big platforms C - Two spaces left of the blue power pyramid E - To the far right just before the ground leaves Level 3 P - To the right of the big eye thing at the beginning of the level R - In the middle of the bridge a little after the P I - To the far right of the stage next to the mini eye N - After the mid-boss on the island to the right after the water starts C - In the square of blue orbs right after the water, in the top-left corner of the mini square E - To the left right before the last power pyramid Level 4 P - In the center of the stage, inside a box R - In front of a square of 4 orbs, on the left side of the stage I - Immediatly after the R on the right side after a green rectangle N - Directly in the center of the stage after the mid-boss C - Directly after a power pyramid on the left side of the stage E - On the right side of the stage just before the last power pyramid 2nd Time Through *Coming Soon* ============================================================================== 8. BONUSES ============================================================================== Point Bonuses 1. Defeat Redanset before the other pieces attach 2. Defeat 8 Sectums in a row 3. Defeat a pair of Hyokder class fighters at the same time, they appear in Level 3 and 4 4. Blow up a group of Zomes at the same time 5. Get the same type of booster you already have 6. Shoot a booster 12 times 7. Beat all of the mid-bosses in under 12 seconds. Then in Level 4, shoot at the right side of the stage until you hit the right spot.
