I. Introduction
.................
I've enjoyed a few Harvest Moon games in the past (Harvest Moon on SNES and
Friends of Mineral Town on Game Boy Advance) and picked up this game because
it was the newest release of the series on the Nintendo DS.
At the moment, there doesn't seem to be information regarding the release of
this game in translation, so I am writing this translation of the instruction
manual, shop menus and other general aspects of the game to help those who
want to play it, but who may need help with the Japanese.
As this is the first Harvest Moon game I've played on the DS, but not the
first game released for the DS, there may be terms/names that should be the
same as versions already released, but that I have translated differently. I
apologize in advance for any discrepancies.
The Japanese for the section titles has been included to make the game manual
section easier to navigate. All of the Japanese for the store menus has been
used to make the menus easier to recognise. If you are having difficulty
seeing Japanese characters on your computer, A) make sure you have Japanese
fonts installed on your computer and B) try changing the encoding on your
browser to "Shift-JIS". Also, each page from the original instruction manual
is noted as [P.#] to make it easier to find a specific page using Ctrl+F.

Escaping the city, a boat carrying people looking for a new way of life
arrives safely on the shores of the Sunflower Islands. Getting off the boat
is the hero of our story along with the Taro family - a family in the
shipping business. Here, there is a new town and new friends. Far beyond
that, there is an uninhabited island where we can see the sun shining. One
day, when our hero has become accustomed to his new way of life, the Harvest
Sprites come to visit...Collect the power of the sun and raise new islands.
Become friends with tanukis and rabbits and other groups of wild animals. Get
help from the Harvest Sprites...Mysterious things were happening one after
another. Thus our hero begins a lively farm life together with many friends.

.............................
通信機能について
Connecting with others
When connecting with other players, you can compete in rankings for the best
developed farm or exchange items. You can connect to others in two ways -
using either the wireless connection or the Wi-Fi Connection.
ワイヤレス通信
Wireless connection
Using the wireless connection, you can exchange items with friends who are
nearby. Also, when you exchange items with someone using the wireless
connection, that person's friend code will be automatically stored in your
friend list. If using the wireless connection, please read
「通信プレイに関するで注意」 "Things to keep in mind when using a wireless
connection" on page 5 of this instruction manual.

Do you want to use the DS wireless connection?
Yes. No.
Wi-Fi通信
Wi-Fi Connection
Using the Wi-Fi Connection, you can participate in farm rankings and exchange
items with friends from far away. In order to exchange items with someone,
you need to have that person's friend code saved. This can be done either by
having it saved to your friend list when exchanging items using the wireless
connection or having registered it in your friend list beforehand.
[P.45]
Wi-Fi設定について
Wi-Fi Connection settings
Before using the Wi-Fi Connection, it is important to set up your connection's
settings. On the title screen menu, select 「Wi-Fi設定」 (Wi-Fi settings).
If you have any inquiries about how to set up a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection,
please refer to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Guide Book.
*For connection problems, please refer to the page titled 「ニンテンドーWi-Fi
コネクションに接続できないときは?」 (What do I do if I can't connect using
the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?) in the Guide Book.
When connecting via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, there is a possibility that
the name of your main character will be seen by many people. Make sure that
the name for your main character does not include any important personal
information or information that can identify you. Also refrain from naming
your character using words that other may find offensive.
To make the Friend Code system safer, only two people who know each other and
have inputted each other's Friend Codes may connect with each other. By
receiving/exchanging codes over the Internet, you run the risk of exposing
yourself to rude or offensive comments. Do not give your Friend Code to
people that you do not know.

controller buttons, select an item by pushing and holding the A button.

全体マップとエリアマップを使い分けよう
Using both the Full Map and the Area Map
Using the Area Map, you can easily find the present locations of the other
characters in that area. If you are looking for the location of a specific
character, first check the Full Map to find out which area the character is
in, then if the character is in the same area as you, check the Area Map to
confirm that character's exact location.

You can have suteki made with "Suteki Shards". If you collect 7 of them, go

(make suteki), he will make a suteki using the shards. You can get "Suteki
Shards" at events, so try to attend many events in order to collect more of
them.
自宅を発展させよう
Upgrade your home
Adding extensions to your house allows you to set up new areas in your home,
such as a kitchen where you can cook. You can also increase the amount of
furniture in your home with things like a toolbox for your tools, a
refrigerator for your food, a shelf for non-food items or a jewellery box for
your accessories. If you can afford to upgrade your home, try asking at the
General Store or the Carpenter's Shop for details.
アイテムを一括でまとめよう
Grouping like items together
On the Rucksack Screen, by either pressing the Select Button or touching the
「まとめる」(group together) icon, same items which are occupying different
slots will be grouped together. The number of slots available in your
rucksack are limited, so grouping like items will increase the amount of slots
you can use for other items.
[P.52]
島を汚さないようにしよう
Keep the islands clean
Throwing away items anywhere on the islands is littering and it will make the
other island residents like you less, so be careful. If you need to get rid
of an item, use the "throw away" icon on the Rucksack Screen or the trash bin
at home. Also keep in mind that if you throw an item anywhere on the ground,
it will disappear. Stones, branches and other building materials will not
disappear if placed on your tillable field.
育てる作物の種類を増やそう
Increase the number of different crops you can grow
By collecting Sun Stones and making new islands surface, you can establish new
areas to grow crops in, such as a rice paddy for growing rice or a greenhouse.
Growing crops in these ways is the same as growing crops in your normal field,
with the exception that rice growing in a rice paddy does not need to be
watered. Having a greenhouse allows you to grow crops in winter.
エサ置き場を使おう
Keep your animal feed in the barn
In your barn and pet stable, there is a special bin for feed. Keep all of
your animal feed collected here. You only need to take it out of the bin when
you feed your animals, and keeping it in the feed bin allows you more space
in your rucksack for carrying other items.
.........................
III. Translation of Menus
.........................
This section is a translation of the shop menus and I have included the
original Japanese to make it easier to navigate. Any information from the top
screen is in square brackets (without Japanese).
Many items have a quality ranking, appearing on the top screen made up of
coloured dots, that looks like this:
(blue) [質] *******。 アイテム
(red) [量] ********。 ランク
(green) [鮮] ********。 A
The blue line means [Quality], the red line means [Size] and the green line
means [Freshness]. Then it gives a letter grade called "item rank".
When buying something, the shopkeeper will usually ask where you want the item
to be put and the options are:
Rucksack (リュック)
Tool box (if you have one in your house) (道具箱)
(or) Feed bin (for feed) (エサ置き場)
Equipment slot (装備する)
Actually, let's not do this. (やっぱりやめる)
(The menus listed are not complete in some cases, but I will continue updating
them as I progress in the game.)

IV. Harvest Sprite Homestay Menu Translation [HSH]
.............................................
This is a translation of the menu options available when setting up a homestay
for harvest sprites. Each of the different homestays seem to have different
functions and I thought that it would be useful to include their translation
in this guide. The heavily indented sections represent the text from the
upper screen, which displays the details of the homestay. (The menus aren't
complete, but I will update them as I progress in my game.)
