How can i use a book?

I am trying to tap the book but nothing!

Books are passive. Let's say that you buy a recipe book for knives. You go back home, press the A button in front of the knives, and a new set of recipes are at your fingertips. There is no "opening of the books."

Pretty much you need to have the item that the book talks about. For example, if you have the Knifes recipe, then go to the knifes, press a, and the menu should show. tap the second option on your left hand side, and it will bring up various items that you can make with the Knife set. Those are your recipes, (which for the knifes would be a bunch of fish dishes). Hope that explained it
