Question from The_Presence

Why doesn't eligor die?

I know to hit his eye -- I'm using the exploit where you get on the joint of his tail. I'm using double vol luminatio and a death ring -- I'm doing over 120 damage per spell and I've been hacking away for half an hour -- no dice.

The thing where he brings his sword around is very hard for me to dodge.

Answer

You have to be on his back for attacks to count. This exploit you're doing is probably the problem. Hop on his back and slash away with a melee slash based union. Make sure to have the best ATK boosting gear on. And don't both with the Death Ring unless you're an expert at his patern.

When I fought him, I got on his back and used melee weapons to chop at the back of his head. While on his back, it might be more effective to use longer ranged melee weapons as his movements seem odd and can damage you easily. I think the only way you can kill him is by getting on his back, I tried to kill him in other ways as well but nothing worked except for getting on his back.

Answer

He's weak against hammer glyphs, so you should try to hack away at his eye with a hammer glyph and hammer glyph unions. Vol macir works well enough, but you can pick up melio macir from the Hammer Shaker in Dracula's Castle if you haven't already. Basically, just stay on his back and heal like there's no tomorrow when his shoulder and tail cause damage.
Don't bother with the death ring, it's not worth it unless you're going for the Eligor Medal.

Happy hunting!

Contrary to what the game's bestiary says, Eligor's eye is NOT weak to strike glyphs; he takes normal damage from them (the damage he takes from them is equal to your ATK when equipped with them, in other words). His eye is actually weak to slash attacks. If you have Melio Falcis, which you should, then it and Pneuma are your best bet when you're on his back. Make sure your back glyph is Vis Fio (and that it's active, of course), and that you're wearing your best STR-boosting gear, than hack away. Once he grunts (when he loses 750 HP), run onto his hind legs (the safe spot), pause and equip the Death Ring, change both of your arm glyphs to Pneuma, make sure you have at least 20 Hearts, and change your back glyph to Dominus Agony, making sure to refill your HP if it's low. Unpause the game, activate your back glyph (don't worry, damage you inflict on yourself, whether by Dominus glyphs or items, doesn't cause the Death Ring to kill you... and it doesn't prevent you from getting the boss medal, either), and use the tornado (Pneuma + Pneuma) Glyph Union. It'll do heavy damage with Dominus Agony and the Death Ring boosting your STR (which is increased by 110 thanks to the two of them), and it'll hit quite a few times (while you use it, watch your HP to see how much you need to keep Dominus Agony active throughout this GU, and make sure you have that much the next two times you use it). The instant the GU ends, switch Dominus Agony back to Vis Fio, remove the Death Ring if you're not confident, and resume hacking him with Melio Falcis (it's convenient to have a Melio Falcis/Melio Falcis/Vis Fio glyph set and a Pneuma/Pneuma/Dominus Agony glyph set for this fight). When he leans back again, use that Dominus Agony-boosted tornado GU again, and keep the process up. He'll last long enough for you to use a third tornado GU, but he should die before you can get in a fourth (after all, you can only get one in when he loses 750 HP). If your STR is high enough (as in you're wearing a Royal Crown or a Barbarian Helm, a Barbarian Belt, Barbarian Shoes, the Death Ring, and a Wind Ring (or the Strength Ring if you don't have one; you can get Wind Rings from green chests in Somnus Reef)) and you're using Melio Falcis (the strongest slash glyph), he shouldn't be able to get in a single attack between the time one of your tornado Glyph Unions ends and the time he next grunts (or dies), as long as you're good at comboing your glyphs. If you think he's going to get in an attack, and that you won't be able to evade it, quickly unequip the Death Ring to survive the attack. If you know his attacks well enough, he's simple. Considering the fact that you haven't been able to beat him in half an hour, you should be pretty familiar with what the attacks he uses when you're on his back look like. The tail stab can be dodged by crouching around the middle of his back, the elbow jab by being far enough away, and the sword and tail swing by getting close to his head.

Truth be told, I believe this guy's the second-hardest boss in the game, so don't worry about it (Death has a glaring weakness to light (such as the Nitesco sword (Nitesco + weapon) GU or the Blast Attack (light + dark) GU), and Dracula only takes a few seconds (equip the Royal Crown or the Stephanie as your helmet, tthe Robe Decollete (from a green chest in the Training Hall) as your armour, and the Winged Boots as your... boots, along with the Death Ring and the Judgement Ring, and use the Blast Attack a few times (making sure you come in with full Hearts, of course, and preferably a few Heart Repairs), followed by the Nitesco sword GU if you don't beat him before you're out of Hearts and Heart Repairs, and Dracula should be down before he's done his first attack)). Eligor, however, has to be beat the old-fashioned way, making him much more of a challenge. (The hardest boss is Dracula when you don't use Volaticus or the Blast Attack/Judgement Ring + Death Ring trick.)

1 - A good Miser Ring or Justice Ring helps.

2 - LUDA doesn't work on this fight ;_; (LUDA = Luminatio + Umbra + Dominus Agony)

3 - The two better STR setups for this fight are Melio Macir + Melio Macir(Or Lapiste) + Vis Fio and Fulgur + Fulgur + Sapiens Fio.

4 - You can jump to his back with Redire+ Magnes, but the damn crossbows will be a problem.

5 - It have only 3000 HP (that is the only thing that makes him "easy"), its weakness are Thunder and Strike, he also have resistance to Fire.

6 - Try to trade your Vol Luminatio Glyph for a Fulgur one, the damage will be better.

Dude keep it simple. When you get on his back start hacking away at the eye on the back of his head (this is where the damage counts) with either vol macir or vol falcis (miniumum, melio type is better). Glyph unions are a waste don't bother with them. When hes about to do the tail attack try and get as close as possible to the eye without being hit and duck. worst case scenario you'll fall into and be hit by the eye part and not the tail so you should stay on his back. keep slashing away and repeat the process until he dies and don't forget to heal. Also ditch the death ring. As superstaplers said it's not worth it unless your going for the medal.

Answer

My tactics were preety simple:

Y Glyph: Globus
X Glyph: Globus
R Glyph: Vis Fio

Equip: Royal Crown, Barbarian Belt, Barbarian Sandals, Strength Ring, Death Ring(I was going for the medal)

Once in his back, stand on the spot where you do the exploit with his back legs. Spam Globus at will. When he readies his tail sting, move to the middle of his back to attack more effectively (change glyphs if you wish). When he reels his tail form the sting attack, move back to the exploit point. Rinse. Repeat.

Didn't take all that long, but you need patience if wearing the Death Ring.
