SBK: Snowboard Kids

Review by ninten_man

"SBK won't disapoint"

I have never played an SBK Game in my life, so I guess you have to be a fan of the series to really enjoy this game.

I must say that the presentation of the menus and what not are pretty slick. The touch interface is great and a lot easier than using the d-pad and buttons.

The game-play is that of a regular Snow Boarding game. The game also has plenty of modes to keep the casual fan busy for a little while. The game features some really gimmicky use of the touch-screen that just gets in the way. Then every once in a while you have to blow into the microphone to get rid of this mist crap that comes up on the top screen. Overall the game-play is what you would expect from a snowboarding game, with a few minor kinks.

The sounds are pretty cool. When you fall you can hear him/her thump in the snow. There are very few voice overs which sorta surprised me. Also some actual music(like in Tony Hawks American Sk8land) would have been cool. The voice overs are nice, but you get sick of hearing your character say AWESOME pretty fast.

The graphics are top-notch for a DS game. The kids look real and the courses are really nice to look at. This game does have a flaw that might piss you off. That being the collisions. You can't snow board through a wall or sign in real life, so why can you do it in a simulated snow board game. Overall the graphics are really slick and nice to look at, but they should have paid a bit more attention to the collision detection.

Unless you have friends, this game will disappoint you in it's replay value. The actual game will not last you that long. It has enough features but some of them are just tweaked versions of the other modes. I must say that there were not enough tracks in the time attack mode. The boss matches are pretty cool, and will keep you playing a little bit longer.

All in all, this game is for the people who have played the previous versions of the game on N64. The game is nice and a good deal for only twenty bucks.
