Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime

Review by MindKry

"Dragon Quest Heros: Rocket Slime to the Rescue!!!"

If you're looking to see if this game is a RPG then stop right here. Rocket Slime is a split off from the Dragon Quest series set in the dragon Quest universe. Wholly unique as a gaming experience it plays more like old school Zelda games then it's predecessors.

You are one of the trademark little blue slimes from the Dragon Quest series and all of the slimes in your village have been kidnapped by the "Plob" (some kind of platypus creatures that have formed a gang). For what reasons they've done this who knows? But it's your job as the remaining slime to find and rescue all of your friends.

And so the adventure begins... With simplistic controls, easy concepts and cute graphics. This game is sure to jitter your sweet tooth. However, aside form all this simplicity lays the build of a SOLID tank to tank battling system. Almost a mini game of sorts, but absolutely deep and brimming with unbridled potential for tank customization.

It's like having two games in one almost... On the one side you have this, Zelda esque, incredibly basic ARPG on the other a head to head real time strategy tank battle.

Controls 9/10 : Controls aren't much of an issue seeing as you use all of 3 buttons. Mainly the one that allows you to stretch yourself out and snap into any direction. It's very simple controls for a very simple game.

Graphics 7/10: People might complain that this game doesn't have any redeemable graphical features in it. But the graphics fit the game perfectly. No complicated 3d rendering, no type of realism whatsoever. You're a slimey blob in a slimey town, simple graphics are alright for that.

Sounds 7/9: Nothing too inspirational here, and yet form fitting all the same.

Gameplay 10/10: Although the ground levels a simple, they feel fun and fluid. There are actually a few different types of puzzles to try your hand at and it's a refreshing experience.

The tank levels however can go from simple to incredibly complex and difficult after having only completed a few levels. As you make your way through the game you find yourself hunting down recipe items for the alchemy pot so you can make newer and better weapons. Carefully strategizing about which slimes or monsters you want to have fighting for you inside your tank. Thinking about a winning strategy can be far more important then speed in a tank battle. You can choose to sabotage the enemies tank and steal their ammo, pile up with beatstick weapons or go for some strategic weapons like shields to block their fire while you sneak behind some heavies, or try to firebomb them.

The tank levels are incredibly deep, you spend time outside of battle upgrading your tank by raising it's HP, but in the end, regardless of how great your weapons are you must be at the helm to adjust with the flow of battle.

It's absolutely brilliant...

Lastability 10/10: I don't know about anybody else but I spend a lot of time questing for newer items or simply trying to find new allies. It might not be the same for everybody. But even then, like icing on the cake... You have an area in your town where you cna challenge incredibly strong tanks to matches. And for completionists, there is a place where after you've rescued all the slimes you can fight someone else for ANOTHER prize.

Although the challenge could have been bumped up a bit for the main part of the game. With these additional features the game should last quite awhile. And it's fun to play all around, give it a couple of handshakes and you'll be hooked too.

So is it worth the buy? Or is it a rent? In my opinion... It is a buy. There is no question that this game will appeal to a vast majority of gamers. And if you're a person who like games that are simply "fun" without blood and gore then this is it.
