Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy
Review by jkpark8010
"Another from the famed series, and one that won't disapoint!"
Lego Star Wars was probably the most fun anyone has ever had. Who ever thought that Lego and Star Wars would mix well together into a game? Anyways, it's back, and it certainly doesn't disappoint.
If you've played the previous version, Lego SW II is like that, only more. In Lego SW II, you go through 6 chapters of the classic three episodes (IV, V, VI). The gameplay is quite the same, except a few additions, like special moves, which have been added, which make it a lot better and more fun than the original Lego SW.
The gameplay has a great mix of fun fighting and a great deal of puzzles, mostly rotating around Lego blocks. This makes it incredibly addictive. Another thing to say about the gameplay is the easy drop in/drop multiplayer. This is especially fun, and easy to do, thanks to the DS's wireless multiplayer. However, both will need the game cart, which is a bit of a let-down.
If you've played the GBA version, you can see that it's not a direct port, and it seems somewhat different than the home console version. Well, the DS is not like the GBA. It is very similar to the home console versions, and does a fine job of it. Firstly, the graphics are very much the same. You might see a couple of scratches here and there (if you know what I mean), but nevertheless, it does a good job. Blaster shots, and lightsaber swings sound great, thanks to the DS's enhanced handheld sounds.
One thing that greatly differs Lego SW II from the original Lego SW is the ability to customize characters. Again, the DS has full use of the stylus when making characters, which makes it an added bonus to have it on the DS. Just imagine what Darth Jar Jar would look like!
Something that is not quite good, however, is that the game can get quite glitchy sometimes. The problem is the graphics, which can get glitchy, and example would be the floor suddenly disappearing. Sometimes, it gets very annoying, but it didn't hinder the game unplayable.
This game shows what the DS is capable of. It is capable of running a home console game near perfection, although the glitches are kind of bad. The PSP may be better at the graphics (also the use of the large screen), but the DS makes up for it with less than half the loading time of the PSP.
Overall, Lego Star Wars II is a great game for the Nintendo DS. Although glitchy at times, it still makes up for it with its short loading screens, and the creative use of the stylus when making characters. It is a great game on-the-go, and the fact that it is portable, is very good indeed. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants good Lego Star Wars goodness on-the-go.
