Contact

Review by _TV_BoyFLCL_

"We've made contact...Oh man who knew it would be this great?"

Story(10/10)
The story is one of the most important parts of any game...right? So your thinking...ok I've read about it but it's still confusing!!!! Well I'll help clear it up for you. Here's the Cast you'll want to know right off.

(Subsection) Cast(5/5)
Terry:The hero, you can name him what you like but like it or not Terry is his default name.

The Professor:The...whatever you want to call him. You make contact with him early on by touching him via the touch screen.(I know what your thinking, but you simply knock him over!)

Mochi:The Professor's space dog...who wants to be a space cat for unknown reasons. This odd ball can be played with during the moments that Terry is asleep after saving. He gets his own sticker (I'll describe more on those later) which can deal damage or paralyze your enemies. I'm sure his sticker can do more but this is all I know at the time.

The CosmoNOT'S:Don't ask why not's is capitalized...it just is. These guys are the villains. They want the fuel cells, that you and the professor need as well. We don't know why they want the fuel cells, unless you want major spoilers which I will not give you! There are 4 members of the CosmoNOT'S There's Mute(the leader), Lester(the archaeologist), Bull(the mechanic), Miriam(the monkey), and lastly Nadia(the computer wiz).

For the actual story...here is where it starts.

You (Yeah you! The one with the DS) via your touch screen poke the Professor knocking him on his buttocks. He gets up and asks you to do it again. (think clean guys...it's rated E10) Once you do he will ask your name and several questions like your name and hometown. Once this is all filled out the ship your watching will get hit! (of course after a moment or so, not immediately after!)
You see a green light and a red light zooming around on the screen now.

Now let's go to our Juvenile of a Hero Terry. Being a boy at the age he is, he doesn't like school very much. So Terry and his school disliking self is taking a nice nap on a park bench when *BLAM* A green gem smashes into the ground near Terry. Who finally is awoken. He then gets up and comically pokes said gem. The professor now comes down and screams for Terry not to touch the gem. The professor takes the gem and tells Terry to get his butt to his ship. The professor then takes off with Terry aboard...and this is where it all begins.

Sound(10/10)
Trust me if you don't like the sound you don't like any classical video game music. I mean its great. The voices are very Zelda like. People make a noise or a laugh to open each sentence. So the noises are good as well, you can hear an occasional yip from Mochi or a clang from your parry ability kicking in. So your thinking..."Whats so good about all that crap?!!?" Well it may sound bad but trust me its good. If you don't like the music though (Gasp!!) Get the game anyway the sound can be shut off.

Graphics(10/10)
The graphics are really awesome. Terry looks nice, lush, rendered, and blended. While the professor (purposely) looks blocky and very much like he just pop'd out of your NES or SNES (Nintendo or Super Nintendo). It's just so fun to look at Terry compared to the short fat little professor. The backrounds are definitely a good thing. They (thankfully) are not static and repetitive. So they Obviously spent some time in this department.

Battles(10/10)
One of THE BEST parts of this game! So you see a enemy crab (no you can't flip it onto it's back for MASSIVE damage) you want to know how to smack it right? Of course you do! So you tap B to head into your battle stance, slowing your movement and drawing your weapon, or balling your hands into fists. So once your weapon is out there are several ways you can get in the fray! First you could move close enough to it in your battle stance and you'll start combat. Second you could get hit by it causing Terry to turn and start attacking. Lastly you could tap the enemy with the stylus Moving terry towards it and making him beat down on it.

So once your attacking you will probably see all these confusing little symbols over your head. Your thinking...what the heck are those things? Well there your stats. what RPG doesn't have stats.? Your stats. each have there own individual level which goes up by attacking or getting attacked. Like strength which goes up by you hitting things. Dex. which goes up by things hitting you. Or even agility which goes up by attacking determining how long the intervals inbetween your attacks are. So all these factors coming in to play help you from being weak.

Ok now there are three types of weapons that you can choose from. There are swords first off, which are not the most damaging thing in the world but a lot of them can up your agility! There are blunt objects like bats and staffs, these are most definitely the strongest, but your agility takes a smack to use them. Lastly we have your own little hands which with training are lethal weapons.
You can use your knuckles bare or you can stick claws or things of that sort on them.

So much customization. Will Terry be a Magic casting wizard with a wand? Or a warrior with a sword? or a thug with brass knuckles? Only you can decide.

Multiplayer (10/10)
The multiplayer is an interesting concept, you get friend codes which make your friend's NPC appear on Wi-fi island. You can talk to these NPC's and they can give you items or decals or who knows what else! You can store eight friends on your wi-fi island.

Misc. (10/10)
The extra things go here. First off, Costumes. You can assume different guises allowing earth, fire, water, and wind magic. Or allowing special abilities like being able to pick locks, fish, or cook the food you find!

Next off there are decals, which are like armor. The decals are items randomly dropped or found in dungeons of sorts. You peel off the top (question mark sign)allowing you to see what it does and apply it to yourself. They can up magic to agility, Strength to Dex. Which ones you chose? Entirely up to you.

One more interesting feature is the stickers. Press down your right shoulder button and there you have a menu with some stickers on it. Peel them off and slap them on the screen. There's a sticker to quick warp you back to the ship. (as long as your not in a dungeon) Another sticker to seal the power cells you have to collect (hey there toxic I wouldn't want to carry it around with my bare hands!) One more to randomly transform things into a skeleton or a cow. (among other things) Lastly to summon Mochi who can paralyze or do damage to your foes (im sure there are other things he can do, I just don't know what) So these are the interesting things that I had to put somewhere.

Overall Pros:
Well...Everything about this game almost!

Overall Cons:
There's only two I can see. If you die your going to have to trek all the way back to where you were. You get put back in your bed in the ship. Unless you saved in a bed in the dungeon...then you will have to restart the game and load from there. The only other one is, like all games Contact will end. With out a doubt I love the game but it's short from what I hear. only about 20-30 hours depending on your pace. These are the only reasons one should not like contact in my eyes.

Overall Overall:
A great game that if you like you like, and if you don't you don't.

So thanks for reading my review (if you got this far) Thanks for putting up with my bad grammar too!
