"Capcom, please promise to NEVER make another Resident Evil remake ever again..."

Its just not really necessary. OK, so Resident Evil may of been good, but again, its not necessary. Resident Evil on the gamecube was the most ultimate remake ever, so there wasn't any need for it to be on DS was there? This package comes with the absolute original PSOne version, and a Rebirth mode, where it has microphone and touch screen puzzles in it and such. But why isn't this game good anymore?

OK, so if you don't know what Resident Evil is all about then read on. This game sees you playing either Jill Valentine, or Chris Redfield. Essentially, Jill is easy mode, and Chris is hard, as they have their differences. You must explore an old mansion, with many sinister secrets, not to mention full of zombies, to survive and get the hell out of there pronto. There are more twists and turns though, and the entire Resident Evil story line is good, but of course, this is the first game, so not much plot is in it. Thats about it really, its a survival horror game, in a mansion. Oh, and the garden, and maybe other places...

Your character is on the bottom screen. Simple enough really. You then can walk around full 3D rooms of the mansion, with many enemies and items to collect. Hold R, and you can then use your weapon to KILL KILL KILL! You can take items from the place, which usually flash white. Er, thats about it really. You can push and pull stuff too, to climb on, and examine items. Oh, and solve puzzles. Thats really the basics of Resident Evil. Of course, the game is pretty scary with the odd jump here and there. But its not AS scary any more, I used to think the game was very scary when it first came out though. It all goes with age really. So yeah, thats that really.

So then, what else is there? Lets talk about it as a remake. OK, so if you have played the original, you will want to play rebirth. OK, the puzzles have changed, they're now all micro phone and touch based sort of thing. They're pretty clever at times, and are better then the normal puzzles. They are hard sometimes, but easy too, so you won't be stuck on any for hours on end. Er, you can also get knife fights. Certain rooms will give you a knife fight, randomly, when you enter. In first person style, drag the stylus across the screen to attack in that direction, to defeat the enemies. Simple enough really. And then there are the small minor changes. Thats it really.

Talking about the graphics already? Yes, the DS graphics ARE good. They're very good. Detailed, nice looking character models. The graphics are just like the PSOne original, but a bit smaller for the DS screen. The animation is good too, and the backgrounds are pretty cool. Still, the camera is still annoying, the fixed positions are annoying sometimes. The music is good, its mainly the same from the original, creepy atmosphere, but thats about it really. Sound effects are again, the same. So the music isn't the best either. But yeah, nice gore. And im sure the game auto sets the blood to green. They should of just kept red though.

PROS:

Uses the DS well.
Good graphics.

CONS:

Its another remake.
The original is getting a bit too old now.
Music could of been better.

THE RATINGS:
Graphics: 9.3/10
Audio: 8.0/10
Story: 8.5/10
Game Play: 7.5/10
Life Span: 8.0/10
Difficulty: 7.9/10
Mutliplayer: 7.3/10

Overall: 7.4/10

My Two Pence

So yeah, another remake. Hopefully, Capcom are making a NEW and DIFFERENT Resi game for the DS. If this was different, it might of gotten a 9. Resi suits the DS well, and its a shame really. Still, if you haven't played it before I guess its good. Its just for the hardcore Resi fans really. Lets hope Resi 1 never gets a remake again...
