"Review from a Digimon Fan and RPG Fan"
I have to say that looking at the screenshots for this game, I was impressed, it looked like a great start for Digimon again.
Story (7 /10)
You start as a Girl or Boy, and you just pop on a computer to see something about these "monsters on computers." You get on google and search, and a Digimon website pops up, you see usual things on the website, and you are transferred into Digi Central. You see many digimon and you are quickly turned into a tamer. You must to quests to become the best tamer in the DigiWorld.
We get to see Tamers from the "Real World" the DATS team from the new Anime of Digimon "Digimon Savers." They make cameos, and might become a bigger part of a story.
I think that it purely for the kids. There aren't badges like in 3, but you are a tamer, but you aren't protecting anything, you are supposedly the humans that make digimon stronger and better. Really the story is just to keep the game going. For us teens we would think this boring or not, just on your opinion. It's a
dungeon crawler, or better yet a world crawler, as you have worlds you can visit.
Graphics (8/10)
I believe this is the game's strong point, although the story isn't strong, the world somewhat is. The DigiCentral looks like a digital world, the places you visit are open, there's some vine and ladder climbing. The digimon look great, they are very detailed, but the attacks aren't as inspired as the digimon look. That'll be the battle system's problems.
Battle System (6/10)
It's turn-based and gets very repetitive fast. Let's just say it's just like old Dragon Warrior games (before 8). It's like press a, or press a. Your digimon can wear weapons and shields to make them stronger, even stronger than an Ultimate when you are a rookie. It's pretty easy, but you'd want to get stronger to beat those actual digimon (not like in DW3 where you go against gigantic unimaginable digimon). The Battle System is similar to DW2, but the backgrounds aren't black, and sometimes can be fun if you make it.
Overall GamePlay (9/10)
I love this game! Of course if you like Digimon and RPG's of course you will. This game does have it's flaws, but has it's strong points. You can trade, battle, and hatch with friends, and you can match digimon online (you can combine and receive a very rare digimon for both of the tamers) I think that Bandai was really trying to keep away from being Pokemon, which is why they have different things.
Digivolving is somewhat weird, as there are usual digivolutions (Impmon doesn't digivolve into Beelzemon, but a different digimon does) but you'll find yourself "Converting them all." Because the only way to get different digimon is scaning them when battling and when you get 100% you can get that digimon, but you can get stronger digimon if you get higher than 100%. This serves you to get all of the digimon to complete the games.
Different digimon have different trees of digivolutions. So it's another way to get your favorite digimon.
This game is just new, and with concepts from the different games, I'm sure they'll take the flaws and fix them in the games to come.
I give this game an 8/10 because it's great game. Don't judge the game so harshly as it's the first game in years, and also that it's mainly focused for children and young teens. But overall this game has great graphics, a traditional battle system, this game can be fun if you let it. Give it a chance it won't hurt.
