Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice for All
Review by Interrobang
"TAKE THAT!...OBJECTION!...This is so much fun..."
Phoenix Wright is back is a brand new set of 4 adventures, including one tutorial case. From the time the tutorial starts, the differences between the prequel and the sequel may seem minute. Then the increased difficulty begins to set in, and new features are introduced, and by the time the plot begins to twist, you will know that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice for All trumps its prequel. The game that rekindled the text-adventure genre in America has gotten even better.
STORY: 10/10 One of the most crucial elements of a text-adventure game is the story, after all, it is a text-adventure. It's not enough to have a good plot, but to provide suspense and revelations that make you giggle in glee upon figuring them out. Justice for All does this almost flawlessly, and while it wouldn't be right to spoil anything, its worth noting that there is a lot to be spoiled.
GAMEPLAY: 8/10 The original gameplay of Ace Attorney gets a ten in my book, yet I did not see enough change in the sequel to warrant the same enthusiasm. It is the same routine; terrible accident occurs (which Phoenix always happens to be present at), meet defendant, investigate, go to trial. But spliced inside of this process are a few new nifty features worth noting. One of these additions is the Psyche-Lock interrogation, which senses lies and porvides methods to suck truth out of anyone. Also, you are now able to present profiles of people as well as evidence, a VERY useful addition. The trial screenplay has been improved as well; you will not have to bluff as often, and the story is put together so you figure out the mysteries instead of having Phoenix tell you what's going on. This increased difficulty is paramount to this type of game.
GRAPHICS: 2/10 The Phoenix Wright games are GBA ports, thus the DS version, too, has GBA graphics. This is of no real concern in this type of game, though, and takes away little to no enjoyment. Though the character animations become repetitive, they remain entertaining and fun to watch.
CHARACTERS: 10/10 The characters in Justice for All each have their own personality and quirks. From Detective Gumshoe's bumbling oafishness to Maya's mischevious hunger, each character is still fresh from the last game. In addition to the returning characters, new characters are introduced in Justice for All including Pearl Fey, Maya's cute and oblivious cousin, and your new rival, Fran von Karma, an insane girl with a bullwhip. Great fun lies ahead.
OVERALL:9/10 I truly enjoy this game, its only critical flaw is its lack of replay value. Nonetheless, pick up this game whenever you can, you won't regret it.
OBJECTION!
