Magical Starsign
Review by absoldragon
"An excellent RPG that will keep you spellbound!"
So there I was, in dire need of an RPG. I'd given up hope on ever getting Contact, and then I saw this game, and all my original hype for it returned. So, I picked it up, and I don't regret it.
Story 8/10
It starts out like this: You and your friends are students at a magic academy, and your favorite teacher goes on a mission for a few months, and everyone gets worried. So, you start off on a rescue mission, looking for your lost teacher. However, this lighthearted and fluffy story starts becoming more deep, and dark as the game progresses. Peppered with humor and cultural references, the story is very well told.
Graphics 9/10
The field graphics are nicely drawn, reminding me a bit of Mario and Luigi, Superstar Saga. The general art style is unique, and well drawn, reminding me of Legend of Mana's style, which might turn a couple people off. However, the Battle graphics are amazing, especially the spells. Each spell looks incredible, really showing the power each hero has at their fingertips.
Sound: 8/10
Nothing legendary, but the music is still pretty good, and sets the tone of the location very well. Plus, the sound effects fit their respective situations well.
Gameplay: 9/10
Excellent, beyond a doubt. The game can be controlled entirely via stylus, while the D-pad is only usable as an alternate way of walking on the field. These stylus heavy controls work very nicely, although it makes this game a bad choice to play on the bus. The actual battles, what with the different elements, planets, and items play out perfectly, and with the system of planetary alignment, it can become quite strategic. This is how the Planet system works: The solar system has a planet for each element, and if that planet is aligned in the proper position, then that element's power is doubled, for friend AND foe. Once you get the proper spell, you can actually move the planets yourself and thus give yourself an advantage, or screw with your opponents!
Overall: 9/10
Magical Starsign gave me 25 or so hours of extreme fun, and I only beat it once! If you are into RPGs, get this game. You won't be disappointed.
