Yoshi's Island DS
Review by papercup
"A HUGE let down."
Remember that game on the SNES Super Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island? Remember how awesome that game was? You may be thinking "Woah! A new Yoshi's Island" I will tell you now you will be very disappointed in this game if you loved the original.
Story: 2/10
The original game was not very big on story, Baby Bowser ordered Kamek to kidnap Baby Mario and Baby luigi, only managing to kidnap Luigi so you had to rescue him.
Well YIDS is not much different, instead of just Mairo and Luigi he's kidnapping every baby in the world. A stork bumps into a toadie carrying Mairo and Princess Peach. So what do you do? Oh yeah! Save Luigi!
Graphics: 7/10
At least one good thing is that the Graphics are very similar to the first game. Very reminiscent of the original thought there are some noticeable changes like some enemies look a little awkward, like the big lava guys that pop out when you get close. But over all very nice.
Controls: 7/10
I'll admit the controls are also fine, just like the old game, with a couple changes. For instance with Mario on your back you can run by holding down Y. And flutter jumping with Peach on your back makes you float more, and you can ride a wind current to get to higher areas.
Gameplay: 3/10
The gameplay involves solving simple puzzles by switching between babies. It actually gets kinda boring FAST. Like some blocks can only be hit or stood on when carrying a certain baby. Or climbing vines with Baby DK. You can also touch a bubble to transform into a different vehicles/animals: a Helicopter a Submarine and a Mole. Just like the first game. Amazingly it's hard to actually get into and enjoy this game. It just got boring half way through the first world.
Sound: 1/10
Oh GOD. This is probably the worst part. The sound! NOTHING like the original. Part of the reason it's hard to get into is that the music is so different, it's actually kind of depressing. Sounds like buzzers, and returning from a transformation are so bad they can make your ears bleed. There are just random sounds thrown into some of the music that just make it horrid to listen too. It's almost unplayable just because of this.
Replayability: 3/10
Just like the first game you can get a score of 100 in each stage by collecting everything(30 stars 20 red coins and 5 flowers). You unlock hidden levels by doing this for every stage in each world. Not much different really.
Overall: 2/10
This was a huge letdown, quite different form the original. It would have been better for Nintendo to have never made this. I don't even recommend borrowing from a friend. It's not worth the money don't buy this game, it's boring and has depressing music.
