Yoshi's Island DS
Review by Boatz!
"NINTENDO MUST THINK OF NEW IDEAS APART FROM MARIO!!!! This game is still good though."
Ah, Mario. That lovable fat plumber has yet again fallen through the imaginary portal of time and ended up as a baby. And yet again, Yoshis of all the colours of the rainbow have come up trumps to save him. Its Yoshis Island, and is coming at you like a sponge.
Anyway, thats the first problem: the plot. Evil witch steals babies. Granted, Mario was probably the first series to have a plot at all, but it seems the integrity has not changed throughout the years. Anyway, this is a minor problem, and it is usually a problem with all Mario games anyway, so lets power through.
The graphics are lovely. New designers ArtToon have stepped in and, seemingly, have hand drawn the whole game. Definitely NOT a bad thing. Everything looks like a figment of a six-year old's imagination. Sure, pipes are still pipes, but they look, even more childish. Again, not a bad thing.
The gameplay is basically picked from the same plum tree as the last game. Control Yoshi, if you get hurt, you lose baby, after ten seconds without baby, you lose game. It was an ingenious idea in the first place, and this is no different, however, the addition of the stork has also built on this idea - now there are a number of babies that can be chosen, From Donkey Kong to Wario, and each one has their own special power. This adds a nice strategy feel to the game, as stork points are few, and choosing the right baby can be vital.
Music and sounds are also good - the nice lullabyish music gives the right atmosphere for the game, however A BABY CRYING CAN BE THE MOST GRATING SOUND, especially if your already annoyed from previous frolics on the game.
All these things considered, the game is easily a success. It will definitely keep the average gamer occupied, and the lifespan is enough for at least half a year's solid playing. Yup, that's another victory for the Mario series. When will it end????
