Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime

Review by Prottain

"Step aside Link! Rocket Slime to save the day!"

Those who enjoy the adventure style fighting of The Legend of Zelda series should take the next step and try Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime.

Story: (6/10) Not much thought involved in this storyline. You start out as the only slime not kidnapped by the evil Plob who have come in with a tank and wrecked your village. It is up to you to save all the slimes in the village and defeat the Plob leader who assaulted your village.

Gameplay: (9/10) Instead of slashing with a sword, you control a slime with the ability to stretch out and roll towards enemies to stun them, allowing you to pick them up and throw them into carts so you can collect them in your village. If you are not much of a fan for collecting, you can simply kill them by ramming into them several times. You have the ability to float as well and roll down certain hills to complete your task of saving your entire village. It is very pleasing to see your village fill up as you save the slimes from boxes the Plob have captured them in. In addition, new areas in the village will be unlocked as well as mini games and shops and upgrades. The second part of battling in the game is by tank. You fight a tank battle by running around, tossing miscellaneous items you have found on your journey into the cannon to shoot at the enemy and then finally invading the enemy tank to give it a final blow when it is weakened. Different items have different effects on the enemy tank and enemy weapons being shot at you so there is some strategy involved in tank battles. There are also mini puzzles that are not too challenging just like in The Legend of Zelda series. You will also never get confused about where to go next in this game as it is very straight forward.

Multiplayer: (8/10) Multiplayer allows you to play mini games with your friend in addition to tank battles. There is download play as well as multiplayer mode.

Graphics: (10/10) Graphics are very cute and well drawn. They are bright and colorful, providing happiness just by looking at the screen. The top screen displays a map or inventory and the bottom one is the gameplay screen.

Sound/Music: (9/10) The music is very catchy and upbeat. Each map has a different selection of music that matches the mood the graphics convey. In addition, classic Dragon Quest music is played in certain areas.

Replay: (10/10) There is still much to do after the game is beat as you can collect items, monsters, and play mini games that were unlocked with the finishing of the game.

Overall: 9/10
