Mega Man ZX
Review by MangledMailMan
"A great Megaman for new and old Megaman gamers alike."
Let me start by saying that this is a must have game for any Mega Man: Zero fan, and all DS owners should consider getting this, even though there are some pretty bad flaws. Also one thing to get out of the way. This is not part of the Mega Man: Zero series but an entirely new series because it is a different (bad) story with its own sequel coming soon called Mega Man: ZX Advent.
Story: 2/10
Horrible. Totally pathetic. This is the only complete and utter failure of this game. I mean sure, Mega Man games have never been known for having great stories, but this is just pathetic. The story is just a stupid side story between MM: Zero and MM: Legends. It's not even filler that explains anything, it just adds to a story that does not need anything added to it. The story is told well but it is uninteresting, stupid and easily predictable. Lucky enough, everything else about this game is good enough to keep you playing through the whole entire game.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics may not be 3D but compared to other pixilated titles and previous Mega Man: Zero games these are very good graphics. Nothing pops out at you, but you can tell that detail went into each and every pixel. Also a tip of my hat to Capcom for making almost no repeated character NPC's in the game.
Concept 9/10
Take a great series, such as Mega Man: Zero, and add a twist like different armors based off of X, Zero, Harpuia, Fenfir, Leviathan, and Phantom from the Mega Man: Zero, instead of different weapons to get a good game. Hopefully the sequel will be good enough to be an instant classic.
Gameplay 9/10
Great Mega Man: Zero gameplay. Fast paced always keeping you on your toes. My only problem with this is the endless wandering around for nothing and the occasional level of difficulty that's makes you want to throw your DS off the Sears Tower. Otherwise great fun and luckily the difficulty feels good most of the time to keep you playing. All classic and new Mega Man fans will like playing this latest installment in this classic series.
Sound: 5/10
I can not say that it is good or bad, but at the time of writing this review I can not seem to recall any music from the game so it can not be to good or bad. Not memorable in a good or bad way. It is just something to listen to while playing.
Controls: 10/10
The controls are completely customizable for every single button and type of movement. Great at integrating every type of gamer into the controls. If you want to play it like Mega Man: Zero, its ok, or you can play it like Mega Man X, it your choice, or if you fell like it revamp the controls to something totally different, it's your choice.
Replay ability: 5/10
If you're the kind of person that needs to unlock and try everything you will play this game through and through it two times to unlock X and then play through it again. Otherwise, mot of us will just play it through once and come back to it later to play it through again as the other character.
Total 7/10
Mega Man: ZX might not be an instant classic, and it definitely is not perfect, but it is still a great game. A true side scrolling Mega Man adventure that new and old Mega Man gamers will both love. A must own for Mega Man fans and all DS owners need to consider adding this to their library of games.
