Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2
Review by JessieBrown6
"This game is more of a remake than a sequel"
Fans of the long time Dragon ball Series have more than likely heard of the Dragon ball Supersonic Series. Considering it's one of the only portables next to the LoG series. I for one have been watching this game to finally get it, and its a slight disappointment.
The game itself is very flashy, with the introduction of Team moves, a new limit on Ki (200) and the ability's to make the fighting to teams. I can't say this was a worthy update, but it is implemented pretty well.
When you first start up, you will notice the sounds of the main screen, and the levels. It's okay considering its Dragon ball. So it has that Rock theme towards it because of the fighting.
Besides the musical updates, the graphics have been improved much. In the last game, the characters attacks linked together without a neutral state to go back into before going to the next attack. Which is fixed in this game. No longer will you have to watch them switch from an uppercut to a side kick in an instant, it shows perfectly the swinging animations and the transformation back to the neutral state that surprisingly does not delay the game play and the attacks are smoother. Yet before even noticing the characters moves, you will notice the nice lush 3-d backgrounds. In such levels such as the city it seems a little blocky, but in places like Namek it flows so well. My only complaint is that when your in the city levels the cities, when you hit the ground, you look small and insignificant, but that should only disturb the nit picky like me.
After that, you will find the gameplay. Essentially, this is the same as the first supersonic warriors with, new characters, team switching, team attacks, downgrading of Ultimate attacks,a new mode, Support characters, and a new DP increase. It may seem like alot, but its not that significant.
The game sticks to the last formula, but its too close to the formula, thus essentially making this mildly not as worthwhile as it should be. The ultimates now require red health and 150 ki. The game uses its touch screen for all the menus and in battle to switch teams and initiate Team attacks. Also instead of using other characters you have the option to support characters, but of course you unlock all these things by story mode.
The Story mode is an updated original supersonic warriors. While it is good, they also have branching scenarios in which you have to unlock by doing task. I don't find it a problem besides having to constantly run in and out of battle to find out which thing you have to do. The game doesn't tell you which makes it frustrating. One time you pull out your hair trying to do a perfect win, when all you had to do was finish with an ultimate. It may be a waste of time but considering abilities are now unlocked by finishing certain stories and different branches, its necessary to get the full "enjoyment" from the game. I find these extra stories interesting through, but not enough for the frustration.
Once Story mode is out the window, you have Mania Mode, which you have to unlock. Once done, you chose a team and follow a map with these battles ultimately unlocking the next difficulty by finishing the last. While its like story mode without the dialog, do not take Mania difficulty lightly.
Once that is finished, the game fails at keeping you attracted. The game can only last for so long. The fighting is fun but it just can't keep you captivated, and most likely you'll be selling it.
Rent or Buy?
A definitely fun but it can't keep that magic forever and fails to do so after finishing story mode and mania mode.
Rent!
