Major League Baseball 2K7
Review by dawgs17
"A worthless game...avoid at all costs."
MLB 2K7 for the DS is the worst sports game ever created on any system, in my opinion. It is very disappointing when games like this are the only choice for a baseball game on a system that had the potential for a solid experience. I can find fun in even the most flawed of baseball games as long as there is a season mode with stats. There is no season mode in MLB 2K7.
The flaws in Major League Baseball 2K7 are numerous. There is no season mode. You cannot make trades, change the rosters, or create players. There is one stadium in the whole game and it is not even a stadium that is played in by a current MLB team. There is one player model: a bald guy with a hat. The graphics resemble something you would find on SNES with a top down view that feels awkward. There is no way to affect how hard your pitcher throws the ball or how hard the batter swings. Sometimes you can make contact with the ball even though the animation shows that you missed the ball. Baserunning is like controlling rabbits in a pen. Draft Carl Crawford in your fantasy drafts. That last sentence has nothing to do with the flaws but it was necessary.
There is a playoff mode, home run derby, and multiplayer option. Each mode is fun for the first hour that you play, but then it goes downhill from there. Another minor positive is that you can play against a friend in single card play, but with a flawed system, the only joy is the trash talking. The crowd cheers are repetitive, annoying, and caused me to mute the DS.
Usually I can find one positive in the sound or menu interfaces or something like that. MLB 2K7 has nothing like this. I would rather spend $20 worth of quarters at the arcade on the claw. This game makes Superman 64 look decent. Sadly, your best bet for a positive baseball experience will not be found on the DS this year. I suggest buying a fantasy baseball team on ESPN and getting way more bang for buck. Lets end on a positive note. Carl Crawford promised he would steal 60 bases this year.
Hopefully, next year intelligent systems will step their game up and create a positive experience for casual and hardcore gamers alike (neither will be appeased with this years version).
