The Sims 2
Review by Roy43219
"Great game the first time though, though it grows boring after the main story."
Alright, I had some spending money when I was at GameStop. I saw a used Sims 2 on the shelf. I thought Why not? and bought it. I got home, and started to play it. I was addicted right away. After about a week, I grew tired of it, felt like keeping the Hotel running right and clean a chore, and I haven't played it since.
But, I love the Sims. I haven't played all the Sims games. Only The Sims Bustin Out for the GBA and the PS2 at the point I got this game. I have to say both of them were fun (I liked the GBA version of Bustin Out better, but I'm not reviewing that game, am I?) I wanted a new Sims game, so I picked it up. I didn't even hear about anything of the game, but I got it. Make sure you don't end up like me, and read my review of the Sims 2 for the Nintendo DS.
Story: 7
What happens is that your car breaks down in the middle of a Town in pretty much nowhere. Some guy says he'll fix your car, and said you should check into the Hotel while waiting. As you go in, you'll learn that the Manager left for good last night, and after a few more things, you end up as the new Manager of the Hotel. Along the way, you will have guests that have plans of bad things. You stop them while you manage your hotel. I think the story is okay, but it kind of plains out, and gets boring a bit after the first bad guest.
Graphics: 7
I'm not major with Graphics, but hey, I didn't puke from them being terrible. They are a bit pixilated, but they are okay. No eye candy here folks. Besides, you don't buy a game just because it looks pretty. Right?
Music/Audio: 7
I didn't find the music terrible, though you might want to have the game muted a bit. Some of the tunes I found to be a bit catchy, but that applies to maybe, 1 or 2 tunes. Sims talk is funny. It's good. The girls sound like girls. The guys sound like guys. The pirate sounds like a pirate. Nothing special, but nothing ear bleeding.
Gameplay: 4
This is where it gets a bit messy. The game itself is fun, but some things along the way, the don't feel right. Controls are fine, though it's a bit annoying. You move with the D-pad, and you chose commands with the Touch Pen. Doesn't sound so bad, right? Well, if you have played a Sims game before, you know you have to choose commands for your Sims a lot, right? It's annoying to switch hand to hand for Touch Pen over and over again. Using your fingers doesn't work so well (or maybe it's just because I have bigger fingers, but my brother tried that too and he has skinny fingers) I have a few other complains. Designing a room or a house is one of the best things in a Sims game. But to make your Hotel grow, and not literally make it bigger, the outside won't change at all, you need to buy rooms. You don't get to design them. One of your friends will go and make it. It takes 8 hours to finish the project. Well, this game follows real life time, so it's a real 8 hours, so you could go and do something else.
Go play cards? The card game is easy to learn, but gets boring after the 2nd game. There is painting, but don't bother with that. If your painting is amazing, it could still be considered as garbage compared to the black line that is called a Masterpiece you made while you were half asleep. You could go and mix music, or make your own ring tone for your Cell phone. Mixing music was boring. I liked making my own Ring tone for about 5 minutes. Of course, you could go talk to Sims, but that gets boring, and if you make friends, they will tell you a secret about themselves. It's usually dumb and pointless. Turn the game off and wake up the next morning.
You go check your room out, and you buy furniture. Hey look, it's the same crap that was there yesterday! It takes a week for them to restock the store. You go and design the room. You want the T.V on the wall, don't you? Too bad. The game won't let you. Nothing will go on the wall (with the exception of a few things) and working on the room is now boring and bad. Go do some goals now.
The goals usually have you deliver something, spray something or find something. Sometimes you have to wait until night to do the mission. Great. Some have you to collect some Skill Points. To get Skill Points, you go around town and you'll find a symbol, representing a Skill. Most of the time it's not the one you want or need. It might take days, heck, weeks to get one of those Skill Points you need without a Guide. One last thing. There are glitches. Some are harmless, and others can ruin your game. Seriously. I warned you now. Don't play the Alien game. Don't complain to me if your game crashes if you look though your pockets, move slowly, or lose your name. Just warning you now. Just be careful, don't play the Alien game, and you should be fine .I think.
Final Score: 5
Now I told you all that, and your most likely thinking Wow, she saying this game is terrible! Not exactly. The game is fun the first time though. I would give it a 5. 5, but rounding it up to be nice. If you can, rent it. Please rent it. I found it fun the first time, but after awhile you will lose all desire to play it. Goodbye, and have a good morning/day/evening/night.
