Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Spirit Caller
Review by SilentStrike254
"Great Game!!!"
This games is one worth getting. Lets start off with something that a lot of people look for in the games.
Graphics-8
The graphics here in this game are a nice touch and look just like the cards. The problem that I have is their movements are repetitive and lack their own personal hits when they attack. I mean, if they have a sword or axe then it will show a slash, if its a dragon it would show a fireball. They do have different attacks but I mean that they just stand there when it should look like they actually attack. Overall the graphics are a great feature to this rather than seeing the cards just set out. Its nice to finally have a symbol to the cards.
Story-8
The story has lots of the characters from the anime and it can really get interesting...And suspenseful. The story flows pretty nicely and when you think you finished the whole thing or the island is safe, think again. The story overall is great and its something to remember.
Sound-6
The sound could've used a little work. The music does get repetitive but it doesn't bother me. The effects sound like they should, and when the cards get destroyed they explode and it sounds just like the anime. The drawback here is that the music during a duel is the same for each. When you are winning it will be the same as if it were another duel. Overall the music makes a nice touch but most people play with the sound off.
Game-play- 10
Ahh...Where to get started. Well...You start off on the island and make your way through the game by dueling. This game has a really nice leveling system where you duel people and if you win, you gain experience. To build up your deck you have to collect packs by buying them with DP (duel points) You obtain duel points when you win duels. It can probably range from 80-400 If you play the right cards, but don't gain a level. if you do gain a level you get your new level time 100. (Example: You win a duel and gain to level 21. The math is 21x 100= 2100 DP plus the rest you earned during the duel.) This game features a day and night feature which brings out a feel that you are kind of in the game. There are days where you go to school or on the weekend. The only problem is school takes up about 1/3 of your day so you don't get too far.
Spirit Caller offers on-line dueling against others. You can duel with your friends or duel other players around the world. Just by setting a specific setting people will be randomly chosen to duel you. You also obtain levels during on-line that differ from the Offline game. When you win on-line you get DP too which goes to the offline version for buying packs which can be a great help for some.
This game is great because you can also connect it to Nightmare Troubadour and get your deck and even some clothing. Overall this game packs a real punch.
Length-10
The length of this game is incredible. The way to advance is by dueling and it really racks up the hours of play. This game probably averaged about 100 hours of play just for the offline story. But when you go on-line it can easily get up to 150+ hours. You can duel and duel as long as your heart desires.
Re-playability-9
The re-playability is pretty good actually. For me the story doesn't get old too fast and I love dueling. I could probably play this game 2-3 times through without being tired of it.
Overall-9/10
Rent or Buy? Buy it definitely. This game is impossible to finish in just one rent. Its great fun and is just a awesome game for the records.
